Turtle shells are really funky, and in real life turtles, their shoulders and hips are actually fused to the shell and form immobile shoulder and pelvic girdles. Their scapula (shoulder blades) therefore are pushed almost fully downwards to give turtle arms that elbow up look. Most of their muscles are attached via ligaments to their plastron and limbs, with their large neck muscles reaching back along their spine with very minimal muscles on their sides or back.

Because of how funky their bones are, I tried to find a good middle ground between the brothers’ humanoid shape and mobility vs. their original species limitations. Their shoulders are very human, with their collarbone instead connecting to the top of their plastron rather than a sternum (flat bone in the middle of the ribs) with the addition of their shoulder blades resting much lower than a humans and protecting the open space in the armpit of their shell (rather than being set on their back under their carapace). Their necks can stretch slightly longer than a humans and have some extra mobility, on account of how they usually sit curved and tucked into their shoulders. Their pelvises and lumbar vertebrae (hips and lower back) are not fused to their shell to enable them to twist their torsos some.

As for how flexible the show depicts their shells to be… suspension of disbelief! I like to keep the idea of their shells being turtle like, so even though they’re all bone, I’ll allow cartoon physics to bend them some.

Additional info on Raph: The spikes on his shell are mostly bone. Also (something I didn’t draw because it was only after I finished this that I was able to find a picture of an alligator snapper shell bone without its scutes) there are small gaps between his pleural bone plates (middle of shell) and his peripheral bone plates (edges of shell). The scar on his shell is probably from a bone deep injury, as broken scutes shed away, but because scars don’t grow with a person, the injury is small enough that it probably happened so long ago that Raph can’t even remember it.

This is all just my speculation, so feel free to disagree or expand upon these ideas!

Cyn's request was simply to have Donnie from their Krang Infection AU interacting with Replica Donnie. It was supposed to just be a colored piece but I got the idea of Rep!Donnie giving teen Donnie some pointers and decided to do a short comic instead. This was so fun to make, so thank you for the inspiration and your wonderful version of Donnie! He's one of my all time favorites.

If you haven't read it I highly recommend checking out abbeyofcyn's Krang Infection AU as well as it's continuation. It's such a wonderful story!

~Синопсис~

Альтернативная вселенная, действие которой происходит в каноническом мире MDZS, где Старейшина Илин Вэй Усянь признал поражение и сдался другим кланам мира заклинателей. Однако, услышав признание Лань Ванцзи, которое его мало волновало, он предложил Лань Ванцзи заключить сделку: Вэй Ин вернется с ним в Гусу, как Ванцзи всегда хотел, и даже женится на нем, но взамен он получит от Лань Ванцзи гарантии, что остатки клана Вэнь останутся в безопасности.

Вэй Усянь, будучи в законном браке с Лань Ванцзи, теперь является членом клана Гусу Лань, и поэтому Лань Ванцзи может уберечь его. Однако Лань Ванцзи связан и другим контрактом: он пообещал Лань Цижэню и другим лидерам кланов, что Старейшина Илин останется запертым в одном месте и никогда не покинет его до конца своих дней. Таким образом, Вэй Усянь остается в доме, принадлежавшем матери Лань Ванцзи, которую в прошлом постигла почти та же участь, что и Вэй Усянь.

~Предыстория~

Этот комикс начался совершенно случайно с быстрого наброска Старейшины Илин (первый рисунок в первой арке). Следующие несколько набросков представляют собой изображение различных сцен из жизни Вэй Усыня в доме матери Ванцзи, но затем я постепенно начала развивать ее в организованный непрерывный сюжет, и теперь у меня есть идеи для всего остального!  

Людям в Твиттере и за его пределами, похоже, очень понравилось, и это действительно мотивирует меня продолжать!

А кроме того, это было моим дополнением к заказанному арту. Один автор с небольшой аудиторией нуждался в деньгах, и я решил сделать объемный заказ у него. Он хотел взять с меня только 300 рублей! Я заплатил больше 1000 рублей, потому что его труд достоин большего!

On top of that, it was my addition to the commissioned art. One author with a small audience needed money, and I decided to make a bulk order from him. He wanted to charge me only 300 rubles! I paid more than 1000 rubles, because his labour is worthy of more!
