Tales of magic and the wonderful or horrid things it could do were a prevalent part of Hydros' childhood. From his hatching he'd felt an icy chill in his talons, as though a freezing blizzard lay just beneath the surface of his tough skin. He lived in the very outskirts of the ice kingdom, where snow lay in a blanket on the ground but far from the subzero temperatures residing in the core of the ice kingdom. His parents had thought him sick, for the descriptions of a chilling bite through his talons, at least, until his first spell came.
It was small, an accident, where he'd been playing in the snow with his father and had accidentally nicked his father's talons with his small serrated claws. He had never hurt his parents before, even if it was an accident. Since he had not been taught strictly like the higher circles of the rankings, he had been shaken. His father, kind as he was, had told him not to worry, that if Hydros held his talon in his small ones and chanted "heal the cut nice and quick, the pain will go just as slick," it would heal faster. But when Hydros did as asked, the cut healed and the scales knitted together over it as though it had never been there to begin with.
That was the day his parents had learned he was the first icewing to have animus magic in generations. That day, in order to ensure Hydros was never found out to be an animus to allow him a normal childhood, they taught him of what the magic held and that it could be used for good, but could easily be deadly. They needed to ensure he was aware of how dangerous it was to wield magic, and to never use it unless the situation was dire and as long as it was used only to heal and protect, never to harm another.
Hydros had abided by these rules to ensure he never caused his family pain. They had told him even of what the royal family might do if they found out. In order to keep his peaceful life in the lowest of the circles in the farthest outreaches of the kingdom, he had to keep quiet. He never used his magic, that is, until news of Darkstalker rising up from the earth came. He was only about a year old when it happened, and his small developing mind had made a choice.
'Make myself so that animus magic cannot be used on me.'
If he was safe from magic, then nobody could ever force him to do bad things. Shortly after this spell, his parents got sick with the icewing plague when he did not. That was the third time he used his magic to help his parents. He was so small, barely knowing what he should do, but his parents helped him where they could. The terror of Darkstalker came and went, and Hydros stayed hidden with his family as it blew over.
By the time Hydros was 5 years old, he was picked to go to Jade Mountain. They had already had royals go there before, back when Darkstalker came back, but this year they chose a dragon from out in the outskirts of the ice kingdom. Something about being more inclusive of the parts of the ice kingdom that didn't fit their general mold. Hydros had never imagined he would be picked, but then, he fit the idea perfectly. He had never strived to climb the ranks, preferring to stay where he was. If he stood out too much, they might find out his magic.
His parents saw him off, giving him what he needed, even despite getting what he might need at Jade Mountain Academy itself. The trip took a little longer than he thought it would, but soon enough he was there. His talons landed on the smooth stone, sliding more than intended. He had never stepped on stone before. He straightened himself, tucking his wings in close as his tail flicked across the rock.
He dipped his head lightly in greeting as he was welcomed in, holding the scroll they gave him gingerly. He unfurled it, dipping his snout in close to inspect where he was to go and who he'd room with and what winglet he was assigned to. There were two other dragonets he was housed with: Plateau and Morning Dew. He could only guess which tribes they belonged to.
He looked along the walls, figuring out his way. He was so engrossed in figuring out how to get to the cave he'd be sharing and referencing the scroll that he found himself accidentally bumping into another dragonet, feet stepping over one another and wings jerking as Hydros stumbled to detach him from the obstruction.
He tips his snout down to see the dragonet he'd run into, who stood nearly half his height with bright blue and purple scales, red and orange horns and spikes, and bright yellow ruff and fins. Bright green eyes looked up into his own dark and light blue ones, expression placid towards Hydros. He dips his head further in apology, remembering his manners as quickly as they could come to his mind.
"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was headed."
The dragonet in front of him tilts his head slightly, expression barely shifting. The other's lips twitch, almost like confusion. Though it's hard to tell with the barely shifting expression. Then, with a hum, bright green eyes blink once, then twice.
"It's no issue. Were you headed towards the sleeping caves?"
Hydros had never met a more inexpressive dragon in his life. It was almost like the other didn't feel much emotion, though he shouldn't judge from appearance only. The most the other does is glance in the general direction of the sleeping caves, gesturing where they were. Hydros' tongue feels heavy in his mouth for reasons he couldn't explain, so he nods. He clicks his tongue, bringing himself instead to ask,
"I didn't catch your name."
The other dragonet seems to look at him once over, tilting his head once more. He feels as though the other is deciphering his words deeper than what he means it as. For a moment he wonders if he'll even get an answer, and he's taken aback when eventually an answer comes.
"Morning Dew. Who are you?"
Hydros' eyes glimmer in recognition, his body straightening up into a more proper position. So this is one of his clawmates, and one of the two that he'd be sharing a cave with. It felt meaningful in a way, even though his first impression is that he really doesn't understand this dragon, but still wishes to know. He knew not to expect everyone to be just like himself, but this isn't quite in the range he was expecting. He realizes a little too late that Morning Dew is still staring almost expectantly.
"Oh, right- I'm Hydros, I'm sharing a sleeping cave with you and one other."
He shuffles on his feet while Morning Dew blinks, his ruff opening slightly more than before, ears twitching where they connected to his ruff. Morning Dew suddenly lifts a talon up, surprising Hydros. He freezes, tail jerking in surprise. He lifts his own talon far too quickly to grasp the other's talon in a light shake.
"Nice to meet you."
Morning Dew's words come plainly, and Hydros can't tell if he's uninterested or not. Though he doesn't really mind, not when for the first time his talons feel warm. The biting chill subsides for the first time since his hatching. It's unfamiliar, but he finds he really enjoys warmth more than he thought he ever would.
General Information:
Hydros is the first icewing animus in generations. This is thanks to the distant nightwing in his blood. A few generations ago, one of Whiteout's descendants met an outer circle Icewing and they had a dragonet together. This dragonet would later find another icewing to be with. In the end, since animus magic was able to skip generations, it inevitably led to Hydros.
This is the same timeline as Darkstalker and Moon's prophecy, so the jade winglet exists and they are now older.
Hydros made the enchantment to keep himself safe from animus magic out of fear when the news of Darkstalker spread. He did not enchant his parents because this spell had been with little thought, he just knew he needed to be safe since he also had magic that could be dangerous if used wrong. This means Darkstalker could not summon him like he did with the other existing animus dragons.
Morning Dew's story and appearance are coming up next, and from there on will be the rest of the main dragonets cast.
The mewtwo comics I've been seeing have inspired me to put my own twist on them. Or well, on other versions of them.
Say hello to the first few other typed mewtwos, mewtwos created as an experiment. Much later, inspiration was taken from the old cloning of mew from its DNA into mewtwo, in order to create the most powerful psychic type pokemon in the world.
After old secret documents that had originally been lost in the explosion caused by mewtwo's escape are found(in bits an pieces), scientists have decided to spin their own twist. Deciding not to heed the warning of the dangers thanks to the original destructions of the labs, the scientists that created these new type mewtwos wanted to try and make this powerful pokemon into the strongest of the other pokemon types.
They started with the grass type, fire type, and water type, three of the most basic types out there. These twos were made as the prototypes, just the first tests. If they could perfect these basic types, then they could go on to making those of much stronger types. Three of the strongest pokemon types were used: dragon type, fairy type, and steel type.
Before any more types could be created, as they planned to make a mewtwo of every type, an accident happened where the six of them escaped together. However this does not mean the other types may never be created, just a delay in the experiments. Now the six twos are trying to figure out where they belong in the world they've escaped into.
The twos would escape well before maturity, so they're out there in their more teen stages, making the struggle a little bit more difficult than if they were adults.
I don't know if anyone's done this before, but hey, I thought it was a fun idea. Might make more posts about these 6.
Waypoint, the Night/Ice hybrid.
This art is a little bit older, but I wanted to share it because this was another one of my concept ideas about abilities and how it affects them.
In this case, I simply had wanted to draw a piebald Night/Ice but with the basis of a star, both in appearance and ability. However, it evolved more once I came up with the idea of what if there was a nightwing power that had to do with specific directions. Hence came this idea:
Waypoint has the gift of prophecy, however, it is based more on areas in specific. They will have visions about places far away from where they are, rather than what's happening in their vicinity. They are automatically drawn towards these places though, having visions days ahead of getting there. Like a waypoint, a beacon, leading them towards the place their prophecy is about.
I haven't done anything else with them yet, but I may do more in the future. Stay tuned!
Hello guys and here are the official designs for Acrylink and Erratum. If you notice each of them with a certain half of the Yin and Yang sign, there's a reason they're there. But you'll have to wait for one of the upcoming parts to learn what they mean. Go make sure to check out the three parts of my series called "The Legends of the DreamVerse". With that said, see you all next time, bye!(Sorry if quality is bad. I draw and color it by hand using pencils and colored pencils)
Many things are going on in our story, from the beginning of Dreamtale and its corruption, to the creation of a new guardian and their purpose. Now at the time those things are happening, are the creations of two new beings. The gods of creation and destruction.
We start with Ink, or how we call him, Acrylink. He's different than you'd normally expect. He sat alone in his world, a nearly finished piece. He lived with only his brother, the two of them both with their own souls.
Everything was going swell for the two of them. Acrylink was sitting in a small patch of grass, just outside the house he had. It was the only place with color to this nearly empty world. He wished there was something new, but their creator wasn't doing their job. Atleast they had given him someone so he wouldn't be alone.
He sighed, looking to the ground with a crestfallen expression. It was quiet. The only problem he really had with all this was the night terrors his brother was tortured with. He'd suddenly wake up screaming in the middle of the night, or what they called night.
He was disturbed from his silence as he heard screams from the house. He ran inside to his brother's room to help him. He stopped dead in his tracks as he saw what seemed like a black monster hovering over his brother. In a scared tone of voice, he spoke. "Wh-What are you?!"
The creature snapped their head towards Acrylink. They wore a white mask with a creepy face painted on. The only thing out of the two holes for eyes he could see was a single eyelight.
He shakily took a step back from the creature, glancing to his brother. The monster seemed to notice, stabbing a tentacle through his brother, killing him.
Acrylink shrieked in terror. His brother was dead, he didn't know what to do. He turned and ran away, as fast as he possibly could. It was no use as the creature appeared, stabbing him through the back. The tentacle withdrew itself and with a sinister laugh, the creature was gone.
Acrylink dropped to the ground, shaking and sobbing. He was going to die here. He failed his brother and now he was going to pay for it. A sudden bright light appeared, colors pouring out. His soul was cracking, a hole clearly shown right through it. It was washed over with colors, the hole soon closing. He felt himself slip away from consciousness, everything fading to black.
After what would seem to him like only a few minutes was actually a few hours. He sat up, rubbing his head. He looked around, wondering what this strange place was. It was a completely blank world, stretching out endlessly. He didn't know where he was, but it might not be good.
He stood up, glancing down at his chest and holding his hand to it. "What-?" He asked himself, pulling out his soul to see. Where the hole had been was now closed off with an array of colors. It seemed to be dripping, which it was. He knew that when he saw the color drip to the ground as ink. Where the paint dripped out, it was replaced by the same colors once again. It was strange to say the least.
He began walking off, unaware of what to do or if this place was dangerous. He didn't know, but he'd have to find out himself. He looked around as he walked. Nothing but white.
Farther off in the distance was Error, known here as Erratum. This was his home and he had been here for a few years when he was created, which was a year before Acrylink. Of course he didn't know that. He noticed a disturbance in there, going to it.
He appeared behind the other, wondering how they got there. He walked toward them, and it was obvious they heard his footsteps as they turned around. "Wh-Who are you?" Acrylink said as he turned around to face him. He backed away, wondering who this was and why they were like the way they were.
Erratum had become glitched from being in there so long. That was besides the point at the moment. He didn't know if he should tell, but he didn't see a reason not to. "Erratum.. The destroyer of the sleep realm, or atleast what's in it.." He spoke with a glitched voice.
Acrylink was confused. He pondered for a moment, wondering what he meant by that. After thinking it through, the only conclusion he could come up with was that he meant dreams and nightmares. "What? Why? They're important to others!" He didn't know where it came from, but he thought it just felt right. Why was he getting so defense about this?
Erratum laughed, bringing his hands to the purplish-blue marks on his face. "Because they shouldn't be here. They're just the figments of your imagination to make you feel happy or scared." He stopped to look at him, grinning. "What's your name?" He'd ask.
Acrylink was hesitant to answer. He took a step back, weary of what he'd do. "Acrylink.. Why?" He asked with confusion, wondering why he was asking. Well, there were other reasons, but he wasn't thinking of those.
Erratum let out a sinister laugh. "Because I'd like to remember the name of my next victim." He snapped his hands back, strings extending from the marks to his fingertips. They shot at him, fast like a bullet.
Acrylink turned around and ran in an attempt to get away. Was this it? He closed his eyes tightly, inhaling calmly. Sudden thoughts of what he could do rushed to his head. He stopped abruptly and spun on his heels to face him. He opened them, jumping up high. A jump boost he didn't know he had.
He smiled as he looked down at the strings. He snapped his fingers and a brush appeared. He grasped it tightly and spun, slashing the strings and cutting them.
Erratum froze and watched in disbelief. He growled in frustration, blasters appearing. Acrylink landed on the ground nearly, gaining an attack stance. He jumped up and slashed the blasters, destroying them. "Gonna have to try harder than that.." He said, landing neatly on the ground. He regained his neat posture with a smile. "Now I'd really like to stay, but I do have to go. I'll see you next time!" He yelled and then he was gone.
Erratum growled, stomping his foot. "Oh I will see you soon." A new person to stop him, and a new enemy.
Acrylink had landed in a darker place, the only light coming from the moon and the stars dotting the sky around it. He looked up with a smile. He felt the colors of ink drip from his soul again. He was becoming aware of what things were, as they suddenly filled his head. Thoughts of what new powers he had.
He painted vials and a sash, putting them around his waist. He took out some of the vials, collecting the different colored paints that dripped out. It was temporary, but it would work. He put the vials back in the sash after the colors had stopped dripping down.
He looked back up to the stars, a smile on his face. "I'll see you in our next battle... I'll see you soon, Erratum."
Decided to hop on into @bogcreacher's "Send em on a date with Red Kite" dytis because I thought it would be super funny with my oc, Aurora.
Aurora was originally me trying to come up with a villain character who is purposely a powerful dragon with animus magic who is also a mind reader and prophet. She's suuuper manipulative and cares about nobody but herself lol. She'll do whatever she can to trick others, so I thought it would be funny for her to do this.
Aurora is an ice/night/rain/sea hybrid btw
Randomly decided I wanted to draw sheephead because skrunkly skinny dude
Sheephead belongs to @beefscrap
I did a few random doodles with him too, just because I wanted to try and draw his head in a more funky silly way
Frostbite, a Sky/Ice hybrid.
Essentially I had an idea for a concept that had to do with conflictions, hence the tribe associated with fire(firescales), the skywings, and the tribe that would then be the complete opposite: the icewings with their ice. Pretty much the confliction would be centered around something negative, like how conflict often leads to arguing and fighting. So I thought, what if it's fire and it's ice tried to "live" in the same "host" despite the fact fire and ice are not compatible.
Hence where this idea came from: what if it's fire and ice attributes negatively impacted its body and its health because of how contradicting the two are? So the idea for Frostbite, the skywing/icewing with pseudo-firescales and "frostbreath" came into being.
His scales are too hot for frostbreath to actually form and be expelled from his body, but doesn't stop in trying to be created. This makes his firescales very hot, which can burn if touching for too long, but won't set things ablaze just by a touch like Peril can because the frostbreath dampens its effects. Unfortunately this is then very harmful to his body, like in the following sketches.
The first image was roughly around his teen years, where he's healthy. However, in the above sketches, he goes from healthy at the beginning of his life, to a deteriorated health when he's reached roughly a young adult age.
The frostbreath and the firescales within will have taken a toll on his health, eventually ending to a premature death.
Some of this was also inspired by Battlewinner, when she used the lava to keep the frostbreath down her throat at bay. Similarly they both have these two opposite forces working against one another to create some form of stasis. Though with Frostbite the scales tip a little bit, causing a negative reaction.
And honestly, I just generally thought it would be cool to create a concept where two forces worked against eachother, leading to an unfortunate conclusion. What do you guys think about this concept?
A long time ago there was a tree. This tree was the center of all the positivity and negativity of the multiverse, residing in a place called Dreamtale. But this place was different. This tree contained all the dreams and nightmares of the multiverse.
This was no ordinary Dreamtale, not the one you may know of at least. Two beings lived here. Nightmare and Dream, the two guardians of the tree. These two guardians weren't the ones more commonly known as the positivity and negativity, but dreams and nightmares, which is already known. These two specialize in their fields, Nightmare having the ability to change any dream into a nightmare, and for Dream it's vice versa.
The tree had two types of apples. They were not negative apples nor positive apples, but they were dream apples and nightmare apples. If a dream one was eaten, the consumer would be protected from all natural nightmares for the rest of their lives. If a nightmare one was eaten, the consumer would be terrorized by nightmares.
Now this is where the story begins. The story of Nightmare and Dream and how they came to be.
Nightmare and Dream were sitting at the tree with eachother, telling eachother stories like they usually did. Nightmare held his hand to his mouth in order to suppress his giggles and laughter as Dream told a story. He watches as Dream made crazy gestures.
Dream jumped onto a rock, looking as though he were looking for something. "And then the man stood on the cliff overlooking everything and said 'Tis I who climbed all the way up here. They told me that I could not do it, and here I prove them wrong.' And suddenly, the rock beneath him have way and he FELL." He jumped off the rock, dramatically falling. "But then, the clouds picked him up and carried him safely to the ground!" He said as he pretended to float until he sat next to Nightmare. "Did you like the story?"
Nightmare nodded, patting his head. "Of course I did." He answered with a smile. It was always nice hanging out with Dream and he really enjoyed it. Atleast until some kids came over.
The kids asked Dream if he wanted to play with them. Of course Dream said yes, turning to Nightmare and asking if he wanted to join. Nightmare refused, saying he didn't need to play.
When Dream left, Nightmare smiled sadly. Though he enjoyed hanging out with Dream, when the kids came and took him things bad happened.
As he was crying, he failed to notice the few adults approaching. One of them yelled to him, catching his attention. "Hey, why are you crying you little brat?" Nightmare scooted back until he was against the tree. "N-Nothing.." He answered.
One of the adults went up to him and kicked him, earning a whimper from the small guardian. "No one likes you here, just die!" Another yelled, picking him up and throwing him to the ground away from the tree. He was forced to the ground by the adult and in a desperate attempt, he kicked him hard.
The adult staggered back as Nightmare ran to the tree and looked at the dark blue nightmare fruits. The adult stopped and watched as Nightmare grabbed one and ate it.
The adults stepped back, fear shown on their faces. Nightmare didn't know what to do as he started hearing a voice telling him to eat more. He listened to the voice, eating more apples. The voice got louder and louder, yelling at him to eat them all and destroy all the dream ones.
The adults watched in horror as he ate them all. He looked at the adults, unaware of why they were looking at him like that. He looked down at his hand as he felt something drop onto it. A thick grey substance was on it and he wiped his mouth with his hand, seeing the same substance on his palm. He screamed in agony as he felt a snap in his back. The same sludge dripped out of a hole in his back. Soon the hole was filled with something and he looked back to see a tentacle coming out of his back with spikes on it.
His vision was blurred as he was about to reach the last two. He stopped to look as he saw his brother through the crowd.
Dream shoved his way through to his brother. "Brother, what has happened to you?!" He shouted as he watched in fear.
The townsfolk pushed Dream back, saying that they would protect him and stop that monster. Nightmare glared at them, a burning hatred in his eyelight. "Monster?! You're the monsters! You deserve what you're going to get. I'll show you what a REAL monster looks like!"
The tentacles on his back shot out, impaling the townsfolk. They shoved eachother as they desperately tried to get away, but their attempts were futile.
Dream snuck past as Nightmare did this, looking at the two last apples. He grabbed hold of one and turned to his brother. Nightmare turned around just in time to see this, his tentacles reaching toward him.
Dream ate the apple, feeling that light spread within him. The tentacles stopped short of him, recoiling back as the light kept them from going further.
They fought eachother, each of them landing hits. Dream was tiring out fast as Nightmare attacked mercilessly. He was too strong. Nightmare was too strong for him to defeat and he knew if he stayed longer, Nightmare would kill him.
He used one last attack to blind Nightmare momentarily. He took advantage quickly of this, grabbing the last apple and fleeing.
Nightmare looked at the tree tree regained his sight, seeing no more apples. He cut the tree down as he grinned maliciously. "I'll see you soon Dreamy." He said to himself as he walked through the dust and dead bodies of humans and monsters.
He was going to kill Dream and destroy the last apple. He thought Dream had the last apple, not knowing he had the second. He planned on destroying the apple, even if it meant killing Dream. "I'll see you soon..."
(That is the first part of a new multiverse called DreamVerse. This is a completely new storyline to this new multiverse. As of now, Nightmare and Dream's designs are not out and their names are temporary. For now they are Sleep!Nightmare and Sleep!Dream but these might be changed.
I hope you guys like this new multiverse and it's storyline. The designs for Nightmare and Dream will be out in the near future as well as the next part of this story. Until next time guys! To be continued.)
9 hours, 10 minutes, and 13 seconds of work on just the cover piece :')
More about the AU under the cut
About their world:
They live in a technological city(think cyberpunk-esque) isolated from the world; no one comes in and no one gets out.
Citizens are led to believe that this is all there is to the world.
This planet has one supercontinent(like pangaea but not the same in shape and size + bigger). The city is relatively the size of the U.S.
They are all trapped led by multiple leaders(think of a co-regency).
About the AU:
Aventurine found out the government secrets about how there is a whole world outside of their city, and that the leader of the rebellion was originally used as a tool to keep the illusions surrounding the city in tact, among other things.
Extra: Halovians power illusions that make the city appear a certain way.
Caelus and Ratio are after Aventurine, kept in the dark about why, uncovering secrets along the way.
Sunday escaped and started a rebellion in order to save his sister and break down the system that preys on the weak.
Robin is still a singer, led to believe it's for a good cause.
The Stellaron Hunters are a separate organization, who aim to take down the current leaders to take the spot for themselves.
Aventurine isn't the only outlaw with government secrets.
Thank you for reading! I'll be posting more content for this AU soon enough, and they'll all be under my personal tag "what lies beyond the city lights." They'll likely be a combination of different things, like art, general discussion abt it, or drabbles of writing to build up more about it. It may include ship art, but since I am a multishipper most will unlikely be canon to the story(though this may be subject to change).
As a side note, I'll have my ask box open, and you can ask me questions about the AU! I'll try to respond to as many as possible, but keep in mind some questions may not be answered if I don't have an answer for them!
I hope y'all enjoy this AU, I have a lot of concept ideas and I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. See y'all in the next post!
Hello everyone. Here is the post for the official designs of NightTerror, DayDream, and Parasomnia. NightTerror and DayDream were originally called Sleep!Nightmare and Sleep!Dream, but I changed this so those are the official names. You may have seen it if you saw The Legend of the DreamVerse - “Parasomnia”. Make sure to go check it out but read the one on Dream and Nightmare first.
