mixed media fan-art-photo-faffing - just for fun
Dinner time?
Fan Art/photo faffing made with Procreate using screenshots from the film Abigail. Could still use a bit of work but you get the picture, hopefully. My head is full of vampires (again) following the release of The Black Bird Oracle š§ā¤ļø
Vampire and his prey mood board, using stills from ADOW, Abigail and random photo edits I made. It gets me when the stag kneels down and accepts his fate/submits to the predator.
And hereās a random rambling about Joey and Lazaar, which I wrote today because I was unwell and couldnāt go out: https://archiveofourown.org/works/59486872 It flows from the photo edit of them lounging on the couch above⦠and a comment made by the wonderful @pleasereadmeok š¤ā¤ļøš©¶ Iām not sure the fic even makes sense. But itās just for fun⦠so there you go.
Carlās trying (and failing) to enjoy a cup of tea in a greasy spoon on the beachfront. Whoās sitting opposite him, I wonder⦠š¤

(Sucker for a slowburn ā¤ļøš„).
My summer goal is to try drawing portraits. Obviously, Iām also using this as an excuse important opportunity to stare at Matthew Goode.
I always hated drawing portraits but I love looking at them. Iād get so frustrated and usually ended up putting them in the bin or ruining the paper with rubbing out. Havenāt even tried one for many years. BUT drawing digitally has massively reduced my frustration levels as itās so easy to make alterations, so š¤ I can stick with this.
Iām finding two particular resources useful this week: Jake Spicerās article in Artist and Illustrator Magazine (September issue), as well as his Insta feed, and āPortraits with Procreateā by Melissa de Nobrega (which I bought with a gift voucher from my birthday š).
Iād never really thought about tonal shapes before, so this is what Iām practising this week. Here are some progress shots (using layers on Procreate):
Weāve been joking about yellow filters š but I actually might change the yellow. Not sure about it. Although it rocks with the mauves and dull pinks.
I used the grid method for the outlines and a tiny bit of tracing for the tricky parts. This is obviously cheating but my spatial awareness is shocking and Iām just having fun, so Iām cool with that.
I donāt want it to be in a realistic style (thankfully š) but I struggle with letting go and adopting a different style, even when drawing plants or animals. I think Iām a copier rather than a creative spirit when it comes to drawing. So weāll see. I love Jake Spicerās style. The benefit of Procreate is Iāll be able to experimentā¦
⦠and continue to stare at MG as Matthew Roydon (one of my favourite of his incarnations) š
(Ana) ~ a daydream based on Ch 18 and 19 of The Visitor (AO3) - drawn in Procreate āļø
āļø Tonight Iāve been working on some digital drawing techniques and process learned from the @liliyth tutorials I did yesterday as well as trying out some of her brushes in Procreate. Iām not sure the finished result looks like Melissa in the end, but I was trying to capture the coy mood of the reference (swipe left and please let me know if you know who to credit for it - I found it on Pinterest and now canāt find the original source š¬). The brushes are ace and I am loving experimenting with liliythās process and style. BIG fan of hers.
As an ADOW newbie, this is one of the most important and enlightening debates I have ever read. I salute you all. š«”ā¤ļø
So this happened ā¦.
and we all cry - āMatchy- matchyā underwear? Ā No way. Ā [this post made me cry with laughter -Ā http://emily-elizabeth-rose.tumblr.com/post/179878860048/semi-spoilery-for-the-7th-or-8th-episode-of-a]
But @natascha-ronin reminded us that Diana didnāt pack her own things - someone else didā¦.
Hilarious that he was opening the right drawers like heād been married to her for years - obviously his reconnaissanceĀ of the underwear situation (in Episode 1) was a total success for him [coz we know that pervy vamp had already been in Dianaās knicker drawer!] Ā Mmm. Ā Nice. āPullingā underwear. Ā Must pack those. Ā
Diana probably opened her suitcase at Sept Tours and thought WTF?

Lazar (but Manga).
Nobody needed him but here he is š¤£
I did the most incredible tutorial by @lilyith yesterday. She is one of my favourite digital artists and I love her style. Whatās more amazing is that she has put so much time and effort into sharing her skills and process so that hobbyists like me can improve their skills. I found the tutorial so useful.
So (obviously) I had to try Lazar. And (obviously) the reference came from @asgoodeasgold - thank you š Heās on the beach, which makes zero sense but I donāt care because the reference is just ššļøšļøš§š¤
Yes to absolutely all of these ideas. Especially Lazaar v Frank, which I also often have on the brain š That would be a whoooole lot of fun š«
Whose your favorite Comfort character in Abigail? And why?
Joey! I just love that sheās so smart (and bloominā beautiful) and skilled and funny but also flawed. I find her relationship with Abigail fascinating and confusing and can never 100% work it out. Iām always pondering the fact she was spared by both Abigail and Lazaar. What weird vampire code of conduct is this?! I love her final WTF line in the film and the way Melissa Barrera delivers it and I think about that a lot. I wonder what on earth she did next after driving away (and will always hope thereās a sequel and sheās a vampire). And - of course - I love the idea of Lazaar falling for Joey⦠even though that doesnāt actually happen in the film (it really does in my mind š). Sheās a comfort character for me because there are so many things to wonder about her and I think Melissa Barrera absolutely smashed her portrayal. Soooo, not a very original answer from me, Iām afraid. How about you?
