As it turns out, Danny makes a pretty good leader. His little gang of homeless children has grown immensely, both from picking up strays and from assimilating other gangs into his group.

Danny might only be 10 and still figuring out his powers but dang, intangibility and flight are over powered even before you add invisibility and laser blasts. At first he regretted sneaking into the lab alone to check out the portal his parents made in this basement. Waking up in a cold alley in a city you've never heard of is a terrifying experience even without the corrupt cops trying to sell you into human trafficking, but finding out he had powers and could do whatever he wanted? That was great. It no longer mattered that adults didn't listen to him or chased him around. He could do anything now. Be anything. Take anything.

He and the people under his protection often robbed places, never banks or anything but high class restaurants and stores that usually wouldn't even let them in through the front doors. Yeah, Danny can admit most of thier robberies were because of grudges the other kids had because of how they were treated but Danny being ten thought this was fine.

The real issue was Gothams Paw Patrol (who absolutely hate being called that :3 ) they were always on thier case, Dannys especially. They kept insisting that the system could help them -Danny called bull. No one helped him or Jazz back in Amity and it was waaaay nicer that Gotham- and kept getting him and his fellow kids arrested. That didn't really matter. Anti-meta stuff never worked on him so getting himself the other kids out was no big deal.

After overhearing a conversation between Nightwing and one of the other bats a kid came into thier current secret base announcing that Nightwing was poor and the other bats weren't. This caught everyone attention. Appearently Nightwing was trying to establish himself outside of the colony cause he didn't get along great with whoever the bats super daddy was, which was fair. A lot of them were runaways for one reason or another and knew a bunch of reasons why you wouldn't want to except "free" money.

This led to them fetching Nightwings "wingdings" and batarangs instead of keeping them/selling them like they do with the others, sharing some of thier spoils with him like the groceries, jewelry, fancy clothes, ect that they stole.

Dick even catches one of the kids in his apartment in Bludhaven filling up his fridge which has him panicking about his secret id being compromised. Luckly the kids had only followed him there and didn't think to check who was on the lease or anything cause they assumed it would be a fake name or something.

Just Dick getting forcibly adopted by a child gang.

Danny is Dick and Barbara’s kid. PART 2

previous masterpost

“And what the hell was I supposed to do back then?!” Dick growls as he abruptly stands up from his seat and peels away the domino mask from his face in frustration, the sting of ripping it away not even registered. “I was nineteen and Babs was already feeling doubts about us and about the vigilante life!”

“You could have talked to me!” Bruce growls back, his much more controlled than his son’s, his cowl away from his face from the very beginning.

“How?! Could you even have listened to me?! Back then we were always fighting! How I was supposed to trust you?!”

Bruce lets a tired sigh escape his lips as both his fists make controlled contact against the desk, he clearly wanted to punch it hard given how his arms are shaking. “What about Jim?”

“He doesn’t know either.” Dick answer with low voice.

“Dick…”

“Barbara was terrified of his reaction.” The younger male cuts his father’s words.

Bruce gives another controlled punch to his desk as he closes his eyes in frustration and tightens his lips to not curse.

“We told Alfred.” Dick finally reveals and Bruce’s head snaps up in attention. “You know how he knows someone in every corner.” Dick finally turns to look at Bruce and Dick cleans the tears away from his eyes and takes a deep breath. “Remember when Babs went on an ex-change student program? She actually moved to Seattle and spend her pregnancy months there, when the baby was due, I travelled there and spent the whole week with her, a couple of hours after the child was born Alfred appeared with some mysterious government agent woman and she took away the baby. Couple of months later Alfred notified me that he had been adopted and given a name, he gave me and Babs a picture of the family that had adopted him… the same picture that the Fentons had hanging in their living room… please, don’t look at me like that.” He pleads as tears gather in his eyes gain.

Bruce is silent, his hands still fist on top of his desk, his steel blue eyes full of hurt and unshed tears. “Daniel James Fenton.” Another tired – frustrated – sigh leaves the big old bats mouth as he rubs tears away and all of a sudden, his all business, squaring his shoulders and giving one deep breath. “We have managed to place the Fenton siblings under the foster care of Bruce Wayne, they both should arrive to Wayne manor around dinner.”

Dick’s eyes shake as he looks at his dad.

“I do not want you or Barbara there for the first week at least…

“But-!

“This is clearly a very emotional matter and you both as well as Daniel and Jasmine need time to adjust. I’ll talk to the others and Alfred about the situation, but it is up to you and Barabara how you two want to proceed.” Bruce tone was definitive, it wasn’t an order as Batman but as Dick’s father.

“Don’t tell the brood yet… please let me be the one to tell them.” Dick pleads.

“Damian heard Barbara in the comms, Dick.”

“Then just tell him to give me time, that I’ll explain everything.” Dick says as he walks closer to Bruce, his gaze desperate.

“Fine.” Bruce grunts. “But you two better tell Gordon, Dick. He deserves to know.” Dick’s dad says.

“Yes, sir.” Dick agrees with defeated demeanor and shaking voice.

“One more thing, Martian Manhunter and Constantine are the ones in charge of Amity Park and Daniel’s case, do not go asking for information because they have been ordered to not share any information with you nor any other member of the family, specially you and Barbara.”

“Yeah… I get it.” Dick wobbly nods.

Bruce gets closer to his son and hugs him tight. “He is safe now, son. He is back home. We are gonna make it work.”

Dick’s forehead makes contact with Bruce’s shoulder as he tightens the hug and cries on his dad’s shoulder.

***

When Bruce teleported back to the batcave an hour after his talk with his oldest son the only one waiting for him with a worried gaze is Damian, who is sitting on one of the office chairs they have in the cave for meetings.

“What did Gordon mean back there?” The youngest son of Bruce’s quickly interrogates. “Who is that boy?”

Bruce tiredly sighs again as he closes his eyes, when he opens them again is to lock is steely gaze with his son’s vibrant, worried one. “Dick will explain everything once he and Barbara calm down. All I can tell you is that Jasmine and Daniel are now family and that your brother and sister need all of our support and understanding right now.”

Damian’s eyebrows scrunch closer together, his mind making connections. “Very well.”

“Thank you, son. Also, do not tell you other siblings about it just yet, Dick wants to be the one to drop the bomb.”

“Alright.” Damian says as he nods, the boy clearly understanding the severity and privacy of the situation.

Bruce puts one of his hands on top of Damian’s head and messes his dark lock in appreciation as a small, sad smile draws itself on the older male’s lips. “Could you please tell Alfred to wait for me in my office while I shower?”

“Does he know something?”

“Unfortunately.” Bruce says as he allows his hand to languidly fall from his son’s head.

Damian nods and stands up from his seat, walking towards the exit.

“Oh, and Damian…” Bruce calls and his youngest turns to face him. “Jasmine and Daniel will arrive today a bit before dinner.”

“Understood, father.”

***

Alfred is already in Bruce’s office when the big bat walks into it after a calming hot shower and changing into something comfortable, the older man in the room has brought him cheesy-veggie soup with three pieces of slight toasted garlic bread.

Bruce really wants to be angry at him, to feel betrayed so he could scream at Alfred, but he completely understands why his parental figure did what he did; Bruce and Dick were always fighting, sometimes even fists were involved, Barbara was drifting away, finding her own person, then Jason died… yeah, the child was better off away from them back then, that’s why what Bruce feels now as he sees Alfred is a profound sadness for knowing that he is about to break his heart.

“Master Damian told me you wanted to talk?” Alfred asks as he dutifully stands by Bruce’s desk facing the door.

“Sit down, old friend. You are not going to like it.” Bruce solemnly says as he closes the door behind him.

Tim is in W.E., Jason is off planet, Duke is patrolling the city, Cass is in her ballet practice, Steph is at school, Damian is probably keeping his mind busy while painting and Dick has gone to Barbara, so right now it is only Bruce and Alfred.

Bruce sits down on his side of the desk, back to the window, while Alfred occupies the seat that is usually reserved for the mischievous kids of the house; it is Bruce moving away the comforting food what warns Alfred that something terrible must have happened.

“Master Bruce-?”

“I know about Daniel.” Bruce cuts Alfred’s talking. “Dick and Barbara’s kid.”

Horror quickly spreads inside Alfred, if Bruce is telling him this after coming back from a JL mission… oh no.

“Is he alright? Master Bruce is the boy safe?” The older man questions with desperate voice.

“He is fine Alfred, he is safe.” Bruce quickly informs him as he holds Alfred’s hands. “I am not going to torture you with the details, all you need to know is that from now on he and his sister are going to stay with us here.”

Tears rolls out of Alfred’s eyes as his looks at Bruce. “That family was supposed to be safe.”

“We cannot know what the future holds, Alfred.” Bruce speaks as he rubs Alfred’s hands for comfort. “Maybe they were good before but lost their way somewhere in the middle. It wouldn’t be the first time and it won’t be the last. What matter is the Daniel has been returned to us.”

“Goodness.” Alfred mumbles as he cleans his tears away. “What about master Dick and misses Barbara?”

“Dick went to her as soon as all was said and done. I told them not to come for the first week, they need to calm down and Daniel and his sister need time to adjust.”

Alfred nods at Bruce’s answer and cleans his eyes from the tears again. “When do they arrive?”

“Tonight, bit before dinner.”

“Oh my.” Alfred quickly stands up and fixes his uniform. “So much to do and so very little time. Anything else?”

“Only Damian knows, he heard Barbara in the comms. The others do not know who Daniel truly is, Dick wants to be the one to tell them.”

“Understood.” Alfred nods, his eyes shining with remaining, unshed tears. “I am deeply sorry, master Bruce. What I did-”

“Was necessary back then, Alfred.” Bruce assures the older man. “Let’s not think about it anymore. Jasmine and Daniel now is what matters.”

“Correct.” Alfred says, more to himself than an answer to Bruce. “Everything shall be ready by dinner.” He adds after discretely sniffing.

Bruce nods and Alfred walks away, leaving the office’s door open. Once Alfred is completely out of sight Bruce sighs again and when he lifts his gaze, he sees the now cold food Alfred had brought him earlier. He takes the tray and puts it in front of him, eating the cold cheezie soup and bread.

DPXDC prompt. Field trip.

Some people would call gothamites petty, but given that most of the USA population treated them as scum, they believed that their behavior was justified.

They didn't like tourists, to put it mildly. Therefore, after learning that in their city were people on a field trip from Amity Park who could not leave Gotham for several days due to weekly escape from Arkham, the news channel immediately decided that a short interview from the guests would definitely amuse the locals. The reaction of outsiders never ceases to be ridiculous.

Reporter: ~Good afternoon~ Gotham News! May I ask you to share what you liked most about our wonderful city?

Mr. Lancer*still in a cold sweat and looks at every passerby as a potential villain*: Uh, no, me..It's so unexpected. Well, first of all, people here are very…

Danny *is high after the tasting samples Dr. Crane gave him for free and is extremely eager to share his happiness with others*,* picks a microphone*.

Danny: Gotham is the best city in the world! Like seriously, damn, I'd like to die here. Although there are constant shootings somewhere, half the time people don't even shoot at me! I haven't been this relaxed since middle school! And in the evenings, there is often such a pleasant scent of fear and despair on the streets. This fear toxin of yours is a real miracle! It's sooo good!

Sam *decides to take the initiative in her own hands before Fenton says too much*: Personally, I am very pleased with the number of green spaces you have in your city. It's nice to see that here eco-activists are really being listened to. Also, the fact that most restaurants have a thoughtful menu for vegetarians left a very pleasant impression.

Dash in his favorite T-shirt "it's not gay if he's dead": Four words. Hips of Red Hood. The fact that it is not marked in the guidebook as the main attraction of the Crime Alley is a real crime. This dude clearly never skips leg days. My respect.

Tucker: What can I say? The speed of internet here, even during villains attacks, is absolutely  unbelievable. I don't want to leave this place.

Jazz: I love Gotham! Finally, I was able to buy all the works published by Dr. Harleen Quinzel. *girl picks up an impressive stack of books* For some reason, they are not available online.

The camera points at a red-haired guy with a twitching eye.

Wes: I'm 85% sure Bruce Wayne is Batman. I have a proof and I am ready to provide it.

A girl with a "Good Guess" pin from Riddler enters and takes camera away from conspiracy theorist.

Star: Sorry, he slipped out at night and went to look for problems. Again. Don't pay any attention to him. He's always like this when he drinks more than two energy drinks in a row.

People always do how Danny is related to Bruce. Could you please do one where they’re related to Babs instead. Maddie is Gordon’s ex. Babs chose to stay with her dad when they divorced and eventually Maddie moves to Amity/loses touch. It’s actually Babs that Danny and Jazz are related to. Babs is shocked to find out she’s a big sister (twice over) when a girl who looks near identical to her younger self comes to check out some psych books for classes at Gotham U.

(For a minute, I was absolutely horrified to get this ask bc I thought it was Maddie x Babs and I was like ???!?? but then I reread and gave a sigh of relief bc it’s actually the Commissioner x Maddie)

Barbara was fervently typing on her computer, pulling up records and social media accounts and old posts. She was typing so fast and hacking into so many databases that everyone who was invading her Tower and her space stopped and stared at her with worry in their eyes.

Jason, as he was bothering Stephanie to go help him on a case, paused and stared at the screen.

“Damn. Who’s that hottie?” He asked, pointing at a picture of a girl with long red hair.

Barbara slapped his hand away and hissed. “Don’t you dare! If you even touch her, look at her, or even breathe the same air as her, I’m posting your blackmail online! And I’m sending Bruce all of the stuff I’ve kept hidden for you!”

“Jesus H. Christ!” Jason shrieked, recoiling with his hands up in surrender. “Okay, okay! Touchy! Sheesh!”

Stephanie asked, “Wait, O, who is this? And who’s that boy too?”

Cassandra leaned closer. “Cute.”

Barbara whirled around to glare at her. With the glow of her computer behind her, she looked a little crazy, but no one was going to say it to her face.

Cassandra took a step back with her hands up in the air. She eyed Barbara like she was about to pounce.

“Don’t worry about it,” Barbara took a deep breath and then grumbled. “I’m just figuring something out.”

She muttered something and then continued to type, scrolling and finding more information. At some point, she was pulling up photos and school records from elementary school websites too. There were papers that showed grades from even pre-kindergarten.

Jason, Cassandra, and Stephanie all shared a look. Then they all quietly slipped out of the Tower, leaving Barbara in her information gathering frenzy.

“… so that was weird, right?” Jason said. Stephanie nodded quickly.

Cassandra said, “She was protective over them. She knows them. Or doesn’t, but is trying to.”

“Overcompensation, mayhaps?” Jason hummed. “You think we can find out who they are before she can approach them first?”

Stephanie and Cassandra looked at each other and then nodded at Jason. “I’ll do it only because I’m curious.” Stephanie paused and then looked at Jason and Cassandra with narrowed eyes. “Wait a minute, are you two just interested because the two people she was looking at were cute?”

Jason smiled, batting his eyes innocently. “No?”

Cassandra made a zipping motion between her lips.

Jason grinned and then said, “Well, it’s not like you can stop us, right? We’re in this together. If Babs is going to spread my embarrassing moments online, I’m taking you all down with me, because if we get caught, I’m going to be a snitch. So let’s go!”

Then he took out his grappling hook and then shot it, swinging off of the Tower. Cassandra also quickly followed without any hesitation.

Stephanie sighed loudly, her head hanging. “I’m so going to regret this.”

From a Gotham City apartment, two siblings sneezed in unison. They blinked and then looked at each other oddly before moving on.

It sure was windy tonight.

DP X DC | Short Story 1

The following story is based on a prompt I've made. The idea is the same, but the execution is different.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

— Alright Steph, we are all here now, how about you start explaining now? -Barbara said softly, her gaze kind. The rest of the Batfamily watched Steph with a mix of curiosity and subtle concern from their seats around the room.

Stephanie lowered her head, her gaze fixed on the floor as her mind raced. She had always known this day would come —it was almost a miracle she’d managed to keep the secret for as long as she had. But now that the moment was here, she had no idea how to begin explaining it all to them. She stayed silent for a few more seconds, letting out a slow breath before raising her head and running a hand through her hair. Her eyes met the faces of the people around her —not her family by blood, but at this point, they might as well have been.

— Alright, but just for the record, I swear I didn’t mean to keep this a secret from you guys, -She said, her voice tinged with guilt. She lifted a hand to scratch the back of her neck, glancing away.- For this long, anyway.

— So, you did mean to keep this a secret from us, -Damian said, narrowing his eyes at her, his frown deepening

Stephanie flinched at Damian’s words but pushed through.

— Look, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you guys about this sooner, -She said, her voice steady despite the tension in her shoulders.- But in my defense, it wasn’t any of your business. It was mine, and I had it under control. -She swept her gaze across the room, meeting each of their eyes in turn —Though her gaze lingered on Tim, Bruce, Barbara, and Dick a bit more than the others.- And be honest — if I’d told you all about it at the very start of my vigilante career, can any of you really say you wouldn’t have meddled?

Bruce, Barbara, Dick, and Tim exchanged uncomfortable glances, their silence louder than any admission. Alfred shook his head in exasperation while Selena shook her head with fondness, and Steph couldn’t help but let a small smile tug at her lips. If she had told them and they’d decided to meddle, she knew he would have quietly taken her side —even if both had wanted to meddle themselves; They were one of the rare voices of reason in the house, both were consumed by paranoia and actually knew when to step in and when to let things be.

— Anyway... how about we get back to your explanation? -Barbara said, gently steering the conversation back on track. She unlocked her phone and opened the gallery, turning the screen toward Stephanie.- When did this happen?

The image on the screen was one Barbara had found during her routine security check, making sure nothing dangerous had slipped into their devices. It showed a grinning Danny holding a baby girl —Ellie— who was beaming as she reached for the phone. The caption read: "Look how much fun I’m having, Mommy!"

— It... it happened back when I first started going out to stop my father, -Stephanie said, thinking back about those times.- I met Danny right after I found out the guy I was sort of dating at school was only with me because I was one of the few girls he hadn’t screwed yet.

The room fell into silence like a guillotine blade. The shift in atmosphere was immediate —muscles tensed, jaws clenched, and eyes darkened with barely restrained fury. Even Alfred, the eternal wellspring of calm of the family, had a cold, dangerous glint in his gaze that reminded everyone that he used to work for the secret services back in England.

— And who, -Dick started, his voice dripping with a sweetness so artificial it was venomous.- would this ‘guy’ be? -His smile was so painfully fake it might as well have been carved into his face.- I think I speak for everyone when I say we just want to... talk.

Around the room, heads nodded in grim unison. Damian, Duke, Bruce, Lucius, Alfred, Barbara, Cassandra, Kate, Harper, Selina, and Jason —each one radiating their own brand of barely contained rage in her steed.

— I’m not telling you his name, -Steph said, rolling her eyes, though the slight tremor in her voice betrayed her.- As much as I don’t like him, I don’t want him mysteriously ending up in the hospital over something that happened years ago. Besides, -she added with a smirk,- I kicked him so hard in the nuts he probably still wakes up screaming, so you guys don’t need to get even for me.

— You went too easy on him, Brown, -Damian growled, voice low and brimming with malice.- Scum like that needs to suffer more. Pain is the only language they understand.

— Have to agree with the demon spawn, -Kate muttered, her voice sharp enough to cut glass.- He clearly needs a better lesson in how to treat women like human beings.

— Preach, -Cassandra, Selena, and Harper said in perfect, almost chilling synchronicity.

Their protectiveness genuinely touched Stephanie, but she had a story to finish.

Ghost of a Chance

Gotham was not a city known for its kindness. Rain slicked the alleyways like a second skin, and shadows crept where sunlight dared not linger. Alfred Pennyworth had seen a great many things in this city. Muggers, monsters, and masked madmen were just part of the nightly routine. What he hadn't expected, however, was to be saved by a ghost.

Or something very much like one.

It was supposed to be a quick errand—a quiet evening walk to clear his head. But halfway down Burnside, three desperate men with more bravado than brains cornered him. Alfred had been ready to disarm the first and disable the second, but he never got the chance. A blur of white and black swooped in, accompanied by the distant, bone-deep hum of unnatural power. The muggers were down in seconds—one frozen to the wall, another knocked out cold, and the third suspended midair by a glowing hand that flickered green.

The boy was there and gone just as fast. Alfred barely had time to register the tattered hoodie, the hollow cheeks, the white hair and green eyes that didn’t seem quite human.

"Wait—!" Alfred had called, but the boy was already gone, melting into the shadows like smoke.

The encounter would’ve ended there—just another strange chapter in Gotham’s nightbook—if it hadn’t kept happening.

Twice more, the mysterious young man appeared. Once to stop a purse snatcher near the theater. Another time to drag a lost child out of a crumbling building during a fire. Always fast, always silent. Always gone before Alfred could properly speak to him.

And always too thin.

It was the kind of thin that spoke of long nights without food. Hollow cheeks, knobby elbows, a belt cinched too tight around jeans that barely stayed up. It reminded Alfred of the early days—of Dick, of Jason, of Tim, of Damian. Of boys who had learned to survive instead of live.

Alfred Pennyworth had a rule: no one went hungry on his watch.

And so began his campaign.

At first, it was subtle. A wrapped sandwich left behind after one of the ghost-boy’s heroic appearances. A thermos of hot tea left conveniently near a rooftop perch. A backpack, clean and durable, filled with protein bars and fresh socks. Most of it vanished, though Alfred never saw it happen.

Then came the note, scrawled in messy, tired handwriting:

“Thanks. You didn’t have to. I’m not sticking around though. It’s safer for you if I don’t.”

The next day, Alfred left a response tucked in the same spot:

“You are not a danger, young man. I’ve seen far worse, and fed far worse. If you insist on continuing your streak of rooftop chivalry, I insist you do so on a full stomach.”

He added a slice of quiche. It was gone by morning.

Bruce raised an eyebrow the first time he caught Alfred baking two loaves of banana bread instead of one. Tim said nothing when the supply order mysteriously included a half dozen extra protein shakes and thermal gloves in medium size. Damian made a snide comment—something about stray ghosts haunting the pantry—but Alfred didn’t dignify it with a reply.

Then came the night it changed.

A patrol gone wrong. Batman caught in a collapsing parking garage. The comms went dead. Nightwing was too far. Red Hood was tracking Penguin. The only one nearby—untraceable, unregistered, and undeniably powerful—was the boy Alfred had been feeding for weeks.

He left the beacon on the rooftop.

“Help him. Please. –A.P.”

Within minutes, Bruce stumbled through the Batcave entrance, soot-smudged and breathing, but alive. Behind him, almost hidden in the shadows, was the boy. White hair. Green eyes. Shivering slightly, but still on his feet.

“I didn’t do it for favors,” the boy said. His voice was hoarse, too young for his haunted face. “I just... couldn’t let him die.”

“I know,” Alfred said gently. “Which is precisely why the offer of dinner still stands.”

“…I shouldn’t.” But his eyes drifted toward the warm lights of the manor beyond the cave, toward the smell of fresh bread and something sweet baking in the oven.

“No one escapes me forever, dear boy,” Alfred said with a small smile. “Not even slippery ghosts.”

The boy stared at him for a long moment. Then finally, like a candle burning out, he sagged.

“…Okay. Just for tonight.”

“Of course,” Alfred said, already turning toward the kitchen. “We’ll start with soup.”

Behind him, the boy whispered a name like an afterthought—like something long buried finally being said aloud.

“Danny. My name’s Danny.”

“Well then, Master Danny,” Alfred said, with the same fondness he reserved for all his wayward sons, “welcome home.”
