I really hate how people refer to Bucky as The Winter Soldier in fan fiction unless he is currently been brainwashed or its referring to when he was brainwashed. Because Bucky Barnes did not spend the rest of his life fighting to prove that he wasn’t a killer or a bad person. Because Steve Rogers did not spend his life proving that Bucky was a good person and his best friend. JUST for Bucky to still be referred to as The Winter Soldier when he was BRAINWASHED for YEARS and FORCED to kill people while he was being told that he was doing the RIGHT THING.
Similarly it is NOT Falcon and The Winter Soldier, or Captain America and The Winter Soldier. It is White Wolf or Bucky or James or Sargent Barnes. JAMES. BUCKY. BARNES. IS. NOT. THE. WINTER. SOLDIER.
Imagine having this....forever. 💛

Y/N P.O.V.
The sun warmed our backs. I glance to my side, to see my Azriel’s profile. The slightly crooked nose, the high cheekbones, the shadow of a stubble on his jaw. Turning fully, I move to sit in his lap and stare into his chocolate eyes.
“My mate.” — I say as I trace his beautiful features — “I love you, Az”.
Happiness fills my heart as he smiles at me, but a black winged figure heads straight at us. I glance at it, and terror dampens my senses. Attor. A single one, in our direction baring two swords at his side and a murderous smile on his pale lips.
“There’s an Attor coming, we have to go.”
I stand up grabbing Azriel’s hand, but he stays motionless and gives me dazed grin.
“Az? We have to go!”
Nothing. The evil creature flies faster and faster.
“Az, let’s go! Please, get up we have to move!”
I grab his face, tugging on his arm, begging pleading praying for him to run. I grab his chin yelling at his face. My throat is raw and dry, and my voice breaks. I kneel before him, touching his forehead on mine.
“Please, my love. I can’t leave you. We must go —”
A spear pierced his stomach. The Attor, now behind him, raises his other sword, and abruptly, an invisible force holds me down. I can’t move. I trash inside my head, forcing my limbs to move but nothing happens.
I find myself forced to watch the blade cut Azriel’s throat, his blood shining and dripping down. I scream again. Over and over and over. His limp body falls back, the Attor nowhere be seen. I try to stop the bleeding and my lips pray to the Mother for help, for a way out of this hell, for anything.
Grabbing his face, I beg even more.
“Az, Az Azriel don’t leave me. Stay awake, please. Don’t die on me, you won’t, you can’t.”
Tears stream down my eyes and it becomes hard to breathe. Air doesn’t come inside my lungs, and I scramble away from his still body. Panic drowns me, as I turn around running away from this hell… only to stumble into the Attors blade.
I look down to blade impaling me and —
Azriel’s P.O.V.
I walk into the cozy apartment, dark from the night outside. Hearing Y/N’s calm breathing from the room, I assume she’s asleep. Dropping Truth-Teller on the table and my jacket on the couch, I roll my shoulders, the muscles tense and stiff. A few minutes later, I drink a cup of tea leaning against the kitchen’s counter, when a crie pierces the quiet night. I bolt towards her room, sword in hands, bursting through the door. I find her writhing in bed, tangled in the blankets. A nightmare. Leaving the blade on the floor, I slowly approach her figure. The cries worsen, turning to an almost screaming, and my heart breaks.
“Please, my love. I can’t leave you. We must go —”
Touching her gently, she flinches away, scared and still asleep.
“ Y/N, you have to wake up.” I speak softly, but to no difference.
Grabbing her shoulders, she trashes against my hold, and cries more.
“ Az, Az Azriel don’t leave me. Stay awake, please. Don’t die on me, you won’t, you can’t.”
My eyes burn, and I speak louder.
“Y/N, you have to wake up. This is a nightmare, open your eyes. I’m here, my love.”
Suddenly, she stops moving and her pleading cries turn into broken sobs. Tears stream down her face, and I roar her name.
Her eyes open, startled and scared, and meet mine. Her breathing falters, and a dam bursts in her. Flinging herself at me, holding me with desperate hands she cries loudly. I don’t ask what happened and we stay there with a strong hold around each other.
“I’m your mate. I’m here.”
I repeat it over and over, and after some time, her tears stop. Pulling back to meet my face, she lays her hands on my cheeks.
“You’re here.”
“ I am.”
She lets out a relived breath.
“ I had a nightmare. An attor was there, and he k-killed you and then h-he —
“Y/N. I’m here. I’m fine”
Her hands slide to my throat, touching so lightly, and head towards my stomach. She stays quiet.
“Are you alright, mate?”
A small smile tugs at lips.
“Do you want a hug, mate? Or perhaps some tea?”
She huffs a laugh.
“Aha! I know what you would like very much. Do you want a kiss, mate? I could give one, you know, but only with a price.”
“Oh really? You don’t say… making me pay for your kisses, that is just evil. I will go bankrupt because of that.”
“I do not have the intention of asking for money, mate. I want two very simple things. The first one is an answer. Are you alright?”
“A little better. Not much.”
“Okay… we can fix that, can’t we mate?”
I say with a reassuring smile.
“Now for the second. This is the hardest thing in the world. It will be a very big challenge, but you must try in order to get a kiss. Give me… a smile.”
Her eyes glint, and she assumes a serious face.
“Well, mate, this is indeed a challenge unlike any other. But, for you, I must give a try.”
And then, she just smiles. And the world shines.
Laying her down softly, our breaths mingling. I kiss her lips lightly. Lifting her head more, eyes closed, she seeks another one but I back away slightly.
She opens her eyes, and a playful gleam shines in her eyes.
“I am outraged, I bought a kiss! I only got a peck, you little liar.”
“You want a kiss, mate?”
“Of course, mate. I was promised one, after all”
“Well, I could give you one, you know, but only with a price.”
“Oh my! — she says with a giggle — What would that price be?”

________________
Warily you eyed the clock on the wall. The mug in your hands had long since gone cold. It was still half full. The liquid sloshed in the cup with every twitch or awkward shift and there were many. Your father was meant to pick you up from Steve’s almost an hour ago and he still hadn't shown.
“Um,” you called out, “maybe we should text him?”
“We can do,” Steve replied, his voice floating from the kitchen, “but I don’t think it’ll be much use - oh, damn!”
Steve appeared in the doorway, dish cloth thrown over his shoulder and phone in hand. “I asked him to come at eight instead of six. My bad.”
You checked the clock again. It had only just gone ten to seven. You sighed and relaxed back into the sofa. “It’s fine. Do you want help with those dishes?”
You followed Steve back into his kitchen and settled into an easy rhythm; he washed and you dried. The silence was welcome and it was easy to get yourself lost in such a simple task.
Steve had saved your ass today. The rain had been torrential and Steve lived close to your college, almost an entire hour closer than your family. The wasn't normally an issue but it was a weekend and you’d been looking forward to spending it with them.
Steve’s elbow brushed your arm. “Alright there, doll?”
“Yeah, yeah,” you nodded, “just looking forward to spending the weekend with family.”
Steve’s lips quirked up as he nudged you again. “Am I not family enough for you, doll?”
You glanced at him from the corner of your eye. The blue eyes, dark blonde hair. Broad shoulders and a beard that you wanted to slide your fingers into...sigh. You shook your head. “Sure you are.” and that was the problem.
Steve stared at you for a moment longer. Sometimes it felt as if he was looking right into you, peeling your brain open like a diary and flicking through all your dirtiest thoughts. A shudder ran down your spine and you looked away, embarrassed. God forbid.
Eventually the sink was clean of dishes. A glance at the clock told you it had only even ten minutes. Taking in a deep breath, you moved to sink back into the couch.
“Wait a minute,” Steve said, “I’ve got something I want you to take a look at.”
Steve was waiting at the bottom of the stairs and began heading up once you reached him. The walls were devoid of any kind of picture, though there was a chest in the upstairs hall that had a framed photo of him and your father. Steve had always been a great family friend and had spent many a weekend young your house. Now you were wondering what that might have cost him. Had he ever been lonely?
Steve led you into his bedroom and you followed without question. Your cheeks flared at the rumbled bed sheets and you averted your eyes. You felt like a pervert. Steve was stood by the side of his bed. He picked something off of the bedside table and when he turned to show you, your lips parred.
“You remember this?” he said. “Only a year or so old, I think. I’m not usually one for photos but I saw this and - you just looked so beautiful.”
The light gleamed off of the photo, illuminating your grin immortalised by the camera. Steve was right; it was only a year old. You’d been embarrassed and had stopped your family from ordering the photo once the sample had been sent out. Your hair looked a little too frazzled, your grin a little too wide. Apparently that hadn’t mattered to Steve.
“Why do you have that?” you asked. The question sat heavy in the air, weighing you down. You swallowed and your tongue felt clumsy in your mouth.
Steve hummed thoughtfully, turning the photo back to himself and stroking a thumb down the side. The silence was heavy. Then, a slight tilt of his head, and he was looking back at you. “I think you know why, doll.”
A shaky breath shoved its way past your lips and you took a step back. Never had you - there had been looks but - he was your father’s best friend.
You shook your head. “No, Steve. I - no. It’s just a silly crush --”
“Maybe to you,” Steve interrupted. He discarded the picture on the bed and you watched it bounce. “But not for me. I have loved you for years. Do you know how it felt when - finally - one day you looked at me and it just clicked? You could never have hid how you felt. Not from me.”
“Steve, my dad --”
“Doesn’t have to know,” he spoke quickly. He reached out and his hand brushed your face. At some point he’d cornered you, and now he was the only thing between you and the door. “I’ve thought about it. I - we can do this. You spend a lot of time here all ready so he won’t bat an eye --”
“Steve, no.”
It was hard to watch. Steve flinched suddenly, as if he’d been hit. The hand by your face was shaking badly and the urge to reach out and take was a strong one.
You’d lied to him. It was more than a crush. But hiding something of this extent from your parents? You’d never done anything of the sort before, didn’t know if you could start doing it now.
Steve’s hands suddenly cupped your face, angling it up toward his. You opened your mouth to speak but he silenced you with a kiss. You’d like to say that you struggled but - you didn’t. It was disturbingly easy to melt into the affection, open your mouth under his tongue and let his it sweep in. You went limp and surrendered yourself to it.
Steve parted from you but not for long. He had you pinned to the wall with his body as his lips were caressing your gave and moving down your neck. “Don’t say that to me, doll. I’ve waited for so long and - I have to have you.”
The heat in his tone made you whimper and he swallowed the sound with his own mouth, ensuring your attention remained solely on him. It’s yours, you wanted to say, has been yours for so long.
An exhale shakily parted your lips when you felt the line of his cock press into your stomach. Your pussy clenched automatically at the thought of it, at the thought of Steve fucking you and slowly taking you apart with it. You dug your fingers into Steve's hair, tugging when he bit particularly hard at the long line of your neck.
The room swirled around you as Steve pulled you from the wall and to the direction of his bed. You went willingly, whimpering when the heat of his hands and mouth left you for too long. It was finally happening and you were desperate for it. If he stopped now or turned away you felt as if you'd die. A fire had started in your core and was steadily working its way through your body, trails of it left wherever Steve’s hands went.
“Don’t stop,” you managed, your voice ragged to your own ears. “Touch me, Steve.”
“Won’t,” Steve bit back, “can’t. Not Steve, darling girl. Daddy.”
Daddy. Now you were considering if Steve really had peeked inside your head at some point.
Your pussy was pulsing along with your heartbeat, desperate for touch. You arched your back and pressed your breasts into Steve’s hands. Steve tweaked at your nipples through the fabric and then pulled it down, freeing your breasts. The urge to cover yourself came and went as Steve enveloped your nipples in his hot mouth, sucking hard enough to have you crying out. Your body was writing underneath his.
He parted from your breast with a ‘pop’ and his hands went to your jeans. The sound of your zipper coming down had your nerves flaring but then he was yanking them from your body hard enough to leave red marks and your panties were quick to follow.
Steve’s eyes fixated on the space between your legs and he inhaled noisily, sweeping a trembling hand across his mouth. “Fuck, doll. You want Daddy to touch your pretty cunt?”
“Daddy, yes,” you answered frantically. Burning up.
Despite the hunger in his gaze, Steve’s fingers trailed languidly across your pussty. His thumb swiped your clit and you shook. He used two fingers to part your lips, opening you to his careful gaze. The urge to rush him was strong, but you also understood. Steve was an artist. He’d want to see it all, take it in, tuck the details to this back of his mind for later.
Your body flared up again at the thought of later. The image of Steve laid in this very bed, naked, hand around his cock, almost had you coming spontaneously. “Daddy, I can’t wait much longer.”
Steve hummed, eyes flickering back up to your face. They stayed that way, darting between your pussy and your face as he slid two fingers in to the knuckle. They went smoothly and you felt your arousal leaking around them. The thought of it pooling on the bed made you hotter and you felt almost dizzy.
Steve lazily fucked you open with them, humming appreciatively at the wet sound that soon came every time they pushed in. He leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to your belly, inhaling deeply.
“Feels good, doll? My fingers in your pretty cunt?” he purred.
“Oh, God, yes,” you breathed, hips stuttering on the bed. “Need more.”
You cried out when his fingers pulled out and didn’t return. Pink lips parted and you watched as he took his fingers into his own mouth, sucking hungrily at your arousal. Then he was reaching for his shirt and tearing it off to join your jeans in the corner. His own followed and you gasped when his cock sprang up and brushed his belly button.
The head was an angry red and was damp with precum. Your mouth watered and the urge to taste rose up but you pushed it aside for another time. Steve fisted his cock and pumped it a few times, eyes more black than blue. He looked starved.
“Gonna let me slide into that pretty cunt?” he rasped. The bed dipped as he got on, getting on his knees in front of you. “Fuck you stupid?”
“Yes,” you cooed, “anything, Daddy.”
Your legs jolted when Steve grabbed them and used them to pull you closer. His cock bobbed against his thigh and brushed against yours. It made you embarrassingly close to begging. Fast was not fast enough. You wanted to feel it all and you wanted to feel it now.
The head of his cock caressed your clit and you sighed, relaxing into Steve’s hold. He had one hand at your hip and the other was guiding his cock to your pussy. The sight was more erotic that you’d been prepared for and he cooed when your pussy clenched again around nothing.
“Gonna get you nice and full,” he promised, “watch me leaking out of you.”
The stretch was welcome, and God, it was a stretch. Steve pushed forward until his hips were flush against yours. There was no pain, only a distinct feeling of being deliciously and utterly full. Just like he’d promised.
You rolled your hips experimentally and let your head fall back at the sensation. Still not enough. When both of Steve’s hands came to push your legs further apart and then cup your hips you shuddered in relief.
“Been thinking about this so long,” he bit out. “Never gonna get enough of this cunt. Mine.”
Steve slid away until only the tip was remaining and then pulled your hips down at the same time he pushed forward. He sank you down onto his cock and watched as he disappeared inside of you and your arousal leaked out around his cock. It was a sight he’d never get enough of.
The pace didn’t remain slow for long. Soon the room was loud with the sound of his hips snapping together with yours and the soft appreciative coos he gave every time you moaned for him. He set a rhythm that allowed you no respite and made you take everything he was giving you, made you feel it all.
“Say it,” he urged. “say you’re mine. Tell me who this cunt belongs to.”
“Yours, Daddy,” you cried out, “’m yours.”
“Fucking right,” he groaned as he altered the position, leaning down until he was held up by his forearms around you. Your breasts pressed into his chest and when your nipples brushed against his you almost sobbed.
Your orgasm didn’t creep up on you, it was loud and left trails of fire in its wake as it thoroughly ravaged you and left you limp beneath Steve. His pace stuttered at the sensations of your nails digging crescent shapes into his back and your pussy clenching wildly around his cock. Hips pressed tight to yours, cock seated deep, he let himself go. The feel of his release inside of you had him twitching already and you moaned.
“Good girl,” he purred, “been so good for me. Was always meant to be like this.”
Steve didn’t pull out, only rolled to his side and manoeuvred your limbs until you were lying quite comfortably beside him. You caught a glimpse of the clock beside him and suddenly went cold. “Steve, my dad.”
“It’s okay, doll,” he spoke through a yawn, “he’s not coming till tomorrow.”
Too tired to argue, you let yourself relax back into his arms. Something sharp was poking your thigh and you swept your arm out, knocking the picture onto the floor. As you stared at the path it had taken, you knew Steve was right. It was always meant to be like this.
Requested by the wonderful @ultraintrovertedgryffindor - the idea was just too cute. Plus, I’ve been dying to write something set in the Safe Haven, and this felt like the perfect opportunity! Enjoy!
It has been a few weeks since you and your friends arrived at the Safe Haven, and you were all gradually adjusting to the new chapter in your lives. It wasn’t remotely easy to put everything that’d happened behind you and move on, but you were doing your best to take it step by step. After all, what other choice did you have?
You were never alone, and you were thankful for that. You had your friends, who you knew would always be there to offer a shoulder to lean on and keep your mind from sinking. They were nothing short of family to you. But above all, you had Gally. The one person you loved the most in the world.

Tony x reader x Stephen
The three of you led incredibly busy lives. It was incredibly rare for any of you to get a day off, and it was a once in the lifetime experience when the three of you had a day off together.
Because of the lives you led, the three of you had to cut back on some things. Such as regular meal times, taking care of yourselves, interacting with people, and, most importantly, sleep.
There always seemed to be too much work to do. There were constant meetings, training sessions, paperwork, and so many other responsibilities to attend to.
Sometimes you didn’t have time to sleep, but you did have time to nap.
It was a rare day. You and Stephen were at home together. Stephen wasn’t needed at the sanctum, and all you had to do was paperwork that you could easily do from home.
Tony had been bullied, by Pepper, into attending several meetings for SI. Though he was no longer CEO of the company, he still did a lot of work for it and held a majority of the shares.
While Tony had gone to do his work, you and Stephan had decided it was a lazy day, despite your paperwork. The two of you had made no effort to get dressed or leave the bed today, and it felt great.
“Ah!” You yelped as Stephen’s cloak suddenly attacked you. “Stephen, what the hell?” You exclaimed as it wrapped itself tightly around you.
“You zoned out, sweetheart.” Stephen chuckled. “I was calling your name for almost a minute.” He said, shifting closer to throw his arm around your shoulders.
“So, you set your cloak on me?” You raised a brow.
“The cloak made that decision on its own.” He shrugged, gesturing for the cloak to move. “What were you thinking so hard about?”
“How good it feels to stay in bed with you.” You smiled, resting your head on his shoulder. “I miss spending time with you and Tones.”
“We miss you too,” Stephen admitted. “I never used to be one who enjoyed the simple moments, but now I miss them.”
“You know, I have some leave saved up.” You mentioned. “Maybe we could all go on a trip.” You suggested.
“Wong could look after the sanctum if we left.” Stephen mused. “I’d be okay with that. We just need to get Tony to agree.”
“I’m not agreeing to anything until I have another coffee.” Tony groaned, entering the bedroom. “I need to set a new protocol, one that tells me to hide because Pep’s coming.” He said, falling onto the end on the bed.
“If you did that, Pepper would find a way to disable it and then kill you.” Stephen pointed out. “And we all know she would get away with it.”
“It was just a couple of meetings, Tone.” You smiled at him. “You do them all the time.”
“But they’re so boring,” Tony whined, rolling onto his back. “I was up all night going over Pepper’s notes. I felt like I was back in school.” He muttered, relaxing back into the bed.
“Did you get everything you needed done?” You asked, shifting on the bed so that you could get his glasses off.
Tony let out several noncommital hums before closing his eyes and going limp. Stephen chuckled as he shifted to sit next to you.
“And he’s out like a light,” Stephen said, gently raising his head so he could undo his tie.
“Let him sleep.” You said as the two of you moved him, so he was properly on the bed. “He deserves it.”
“You know I could have just bought pasta and sauce from the store, right?” You asked, raising a brow.
“I will have none of that sacrilege in this house,” Tony said, pointing a flour-covered finger at you. “Store-bought pasta is wrong, and don’t get me started on the sauce.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot you’re Italian and a stark traditionalist.” You rolled your eyes.
“I’m not going to respond to that,” Tony said, shaking his head. “Besides, you know you love my homemade sauce.”
“That sounds sexual.” You smirked.
“Be quiet you,” Tony said, rolling his eyes, but you could see a slight smile on his face.
“Did Stephen say when he was coming home?” You asked, pushing hair out of your face. “Or what exactly he’s doing?”
“I heard something about alien squid, and then he hung up screaming ‘love you bye.’” Tony told you as he began to shape his pasta.
“That’s terrifying.” You shook your head. “We need to tell him to work on his tact. He’s going to give one of us a heart attack.”
“Honestly, at this point, I don’t notice when either of you says stuff like that.” Tony shrugged. “The two of you give me a panic attack if I pay too much attention.”
“Rude."
"Babe, between Stephen’s phone calls and you dealing life-threatening injuries in the bathroom, I think I have the right to say it.” Tony pointed out.
“Like you’re one to talk.” Stephen scoffed as he appeared in the doorway. “You drink more coffee in one day than most do in a month."
"Steph!” You exclaimed, rushing forward to embrace the sorcerer. “You look terrible.” You said once you’d pulled back to get a glimpse at his face.
There was probably a better way to phrase that, but you weren’t wrong. His face looked gaunt, he was favoring his right leg, his body was covered in cuts, and you knew he was exhausted by the dark bags under his eyes.
“It’s nice to see you too, sweetheart.” Stephen chuckled, leaning down to press his lips to your head.
“Please tell me the other guy looks worse than you?” Tony asked, standing behind you.
“Much worse,” Stephen said, moving to kiss Tony’s cheek. “You’re covered in flour.”
“I’m making homemade tortellini,” Tony told him. “ Sit your ass down, you look like you’re going to pass out.” He added, pushing him towards a chair.
Stephen took the offered seat and rested his head on the counter. Tony began rambling nonsensical stories about his day as he finished making dinner. When Tony had finished serving dinner, he turned to the two of you and was about to speak before you shushed him.
'He's asleep.’ You mouthed. 'Do we move him?’
'Leave him.’ Tony mouthed back. 'He needs his sleep. I’ll save a bowl for him.’
You hadn’t been home in five days. You’d been assigned a mission with Natasha and Clint, and it was one of the more stressful ones you’d ever been on.
It seemed as if everything wanted to go wrong. You’d barely been able to get your guy, and the information he had, Clint had broken his hearing aids, and Natasha had almost fallen off a roof.
You were exhausted. Everything ached and felt bruised. Your head was pounding, and you still had to debrief and write your part of the mission report.
You couldn’t wait to get home and curl up in Tony and Stephen’s arms.
“Hey, you’re home,” Stephen said, watching as you dragged yourself out of the elevator from the couch. “Did you go to medical?”
“Why would she when we’ve got our own doctor here?” Tony asked as you collapsed into the gap between him and Stephan. “You good there, kitty?” He asked, running his fingers through your hair.
“Don’t be weird.” You grumbled but didn’t make a move to move his hand.“I missed you two.” You sighed.
“We missed you too, sweetheart,” Stephen said, placing a soothing hand on your back. “Are you sure you’re not injured?”
“Not injured. Just tired.” You told him. “Really tired.”
“Do you want us to move you to bed?” Tony questioned. “Steph will have to carry you unless I get the suit.”
“No, I just want to stay here. You’re so warm.” You murmured, burrowing deeper into your spot and their warmth. “I love you both. A lot, a lot.” You added as your eyes began to close.
The last thing you heard before drifting off into a wanted slumber was;
“We love you too, sweetheart.”
“A lot, a lot.”

A/N: this is my first time writing for ye old kazzle dazzle and i'm terrified, lol (i'm also shit at summaries)
Summary: Kaz never feels the need to explain his entire plan. He knows that, whatever happens, it will inevitably go according to plan. But when his plan goes wrong and Y/N is injured, Kaz is suddenly forced to comprehend with the skeletally hand of death once again.
"So, was the gunfire part of the original plan?"
Kaz shoot Y/N a withering look - one that would have anyone in their right mind turning around and running. Y/N just beamed at him.
"No, it wasn't," Kaz replied, glowering at her. "Jesper shouldn't have started so early."
"He's on time," Y/N reminded him.
"For Jesper that's early."
"True."
Y/N and Kaz ducked back behind the wall as bullets whizzed past them smashing into the houses behind them.
"So, we are being fired at because you couldn't be bothered to explain the full plan," Y/N said, trying not to glare at Kaz.
"No, we're being fired at because Jesper's timing is horrendous," Kaz snapped.
Jesper, as if summoned, suddenly appeared at Y/N's side, sliding to a stop on the slippery cobbles. "Right, that's that, then."
Y/N narrowed her eyes. "What -"
She was cut off being a tremendous explosion from inside the warehouse they'd all just being chased out off. Smoke billowed into the air and flames rolled up into the sky. The men who had been firing at them all exclaimed and ran off to the warehouse, leaving the alley empty.
"Well, you could have done that sooner, Jes," Y/N muttered stepping out from behind the wall.
"Well, of course, but then what's the point, love?" Jesper asked, winking at her,
Y/N began to laugh but was cut off as a more gunshots echoed through the street. She ducked and Jesper pulled her behind a barrel as he fired back at the lone gunman, hitting him in the shoulder as he ran off.
"You alright?" Jesper asked, panting. He glanced at Y/N who was nodding, albeit shakily.
"I'm fine," she said, peeking her head over the top of the barrel and slowly standing up. "Nearly died, but I'm fine."
"You didn't nearly die," Kaz drawled, walking over to them.
"We all nearly died, Kaz, all because you can't explain any plan in full detail!" Y/N yelled. "Inej almost got stabbed!"
"But she didn't," Kaz replied, glancing up at the roofs where Inej was inevitably haunting.
Y/N glanced over at Kaz and let out an exasperated sigh. "Would it kill you to actually explain a plan in whole? It would make our lives so - ah."
She cut herself off with a gasp of pain. Y/N lost her footing as she stumbled forward. and Jesper grabbed her, wrapping one hand around her waist, the other snaking around to rest on her back.
"Hey, you ok?" Jesper asked, his dark eyes full of concern as he supported almost the full weight of Y/N.
Y/N glanced down at her side and noticed a dark patch spreading from just under her right breast, staining her waistcoat. She raised a shaking hand to the blood stain and let out a surprised gasp as her hand came away wet with blood.
"Oh."
The sight of the blood on her hand seemed to push her over the edge and Jesper exclaimed as her legs buckled. His grip tightened as he caught her and gently lowered her to the cobbled street, kneeling down with Y/N and putting her head in his lap.
"Inej!" Jesper yelled, unable to see where the Suli girl had vanished too.
Kaz stared as blood dripped onto the cobble stones. His mind was still watching Y/N yell at him for being him. It wasn't meant to happen like this. His grip on the crow's head of his cane was almost crushing and he could feel the tiny, delicate beak cutting into his hand through his gloves.
Y/N was dying because of him.
If he'd told them what his actual plan was or if he'd just told her.
Y/N's hand was pressing against her right side, Jesper's hand covering hers as he helped put pressure on her side. The blood was seeping over both of their hands, staining them red.
Inej suddenly appeared out of the shadows, hurrying over to Y/N's side in silence. She unwrapped her scarf from around her head and began wapping it around Y/N's side as Jesper moved Y/N's shaking hand away from the wound. Jesper carefully lifted Y/N up as Inej meticulously wrapped it around, trying to slow the bleeding.
"We need Nina," Inej said aloud as she tied her scarf in a knot, securing it around Y/N's side. She looked expectantly over at Kaz.
Kaz was clenching his jaw tightly. He forced himself to swallow the fear and the mental image of Y/N lying next to Jordie on the Reaper's barge. "She's at the White Rose. Bring her to the Slat."
Inej nodded. She cast Y/N a worried glance before she climbed up a drainpipe and vanished into the clouds, leaving no sign she'd ever been there except the now bloody scarf around Y/N's side.
"Jesper, your face looks weird without a smile on it," Y/N said softly, her left hand finding his, their fingers entwining.
Jesper forced himself to smile down at her. He smoothed back her hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. "Sorry, love."
Y/N's eyes fluttered shut and Jesper moved his bloody hands to either side of her pale face, shaking her as gently as he could.
"Hey, hey, stay with me, love," Jesper said, not so gently, as he tried to keep her conscious.
Y/N blinked her eyes open and looked up at Jesper, the world spinning around her, the buildings around them looking even drunker than usual. "Hey."
"Hey, beautiful," Jesper replied, stroking her cheek with his thumb, both of them choosing to ignore the fact that Y/N's blood was all over Jesper's hands and was now on her face.
Kaz felt a pang of jealously rush through him. Jesper could comfort her and carry her to safety. Inej could hold her hand and hug her. Nina could heal her and touch her without feeling like she was about to pass out.
Kaz wanted to run to Y/N. He wanted to kneel down next to her and hold her hand. But he couldn't. He physically could not force himself to.
As he stared at her, at the woman he'd taken for granted for so long, he just saw her dead, lying on the street like Jordie had. The nightmare spiralled from there as he remembered the Reaper's Barge, the cold, bloated body of his brother. The hands. Drowning in a sea of rotten bodies.
No.
Y/N wasn't dead. She was still alive. She was still awake and wasn't dead.
A small voice inside him added the word yet to the end of his sentence but he refused to listen to it.
"Jesper," Kaz said, his voice rougher and croakier then usual. "We need to move her to the Slat."
Jesper recognised the pain and unfiltered emotion on Kaz's face. It wasn't normal to see his boss so openly show emotion but when Y/N was involved, Kaz was an unknown entity.
The man would never admit to himself that he had feelings for her. Kaz was in denial. He refused to acknowledge the emotions inside him. But he'd taken Y/N for granted. He just assumed she would always be on his left side, walking just behind him.
"Ready?"
Jesper's voice snapped Kaz back to the street and he looked at Y/N, her skin pale and sweaty, her hands shaking. Kaz nodded, gripping his cane tightly.
"Right, love, your knight in shining armour has arrived," Jesper said, a teasing tone to his words that didn't quite reach his eyes.
Y/N chuckled softly as Jesper moved to her side, his arms going under her legs and then around her back. Y/N let out a groan of pain and squeezed her eyes tightly shut as he lifted her up. She dropped her head onto his chest, feeling the warmth radiating from him, the soft material of his coat rubbing against her face.
Kaz's cane clicking against the cobbles was the sound Y/N focused on as Jesper carried her towards the Slat. She wanted to fall asleep, to just close her eyes and burrow into Jesper's jacket for warmth. But Kaz's cane kept clicking and Y/N focused on it, the sound alone reassuring her of his presence.
"Hey, don't doze off on me," Jesper said, glancing down at Y/N as her eyes shut.
"I"m not," Y/N said softly, her eyes opening sluggishly and looking up at Jesper as she re-wrapped her arms around his neck. "I'm not."
Jesper squeezed her leg as he noticed her eyes droop slightly, her head dropping back against his shoulder. "No sleeping on the job, Y/N, Kaz will have your head."
Y/N's laugh was weaker and Kaz felt a pang of pain in his chest as he looked over at her. She was dying. She couldn't be dying. But she was dying.
Kaz forced himself to reply, playing along in an attempt to keep Y/N awake. "You fell asleep on a job once, Jesper, and yet you're still here. Unfortunately."
Jesper let out a bark of laughter and Kaz caught Y/N smiling, albeit small. Good.
"We're nearly there, love," Jesper said quietly, spotting the towering, drunkenly slumped shack that was the Slat.
Y/N hummed a response but the blood loss was beginning to hit her. Her sight was speckled by black dots and her ears were filled with a high pitched ringing.
Jesper glanced down at her, noticing her silence ."Y/N, hey, stay with me, darling, we're almost there."
Y/N wanted to reply. She wanted to reassure Jesper, because she could hear the thinly disguised panic in his voice, that she was still with him but she was so tired and her eyes weren't letting her stay awake.
The urge to sleep won over her need to reassure Jesper and her eyes rolled backwards. Jesper felt Y/N's arms slip from around his neck, limply hanging to the sides, as she lost consciousness and felt panic grip his entire being.
Kaz slammed open the door to the Slat and the Dregs loitering around looked up, hands flying to weapons.
"Nina!" Kaz yelled, his voice doing a fairly good job at hiding his fear, his worry, the panic that Y/N was dying.
Nina rushed out the side room and met them halfway across the room, eyes running over Y/N, the blood seeping through Inej's scarf, the blood on Jesper's hands, on Y/N's hands.
"Quickly," she said, ushering Jesper into the room.
There was a table set in the middle of the room and dozens of candles had been lit to provide enough light in the dark room. A large, heavy oak chest of drawers was shoved up against the window and Inej was hovering against the far wall, her eyes locking onto Y/N's body as soon as Jesper carried her into the room.
"On the table, Jesper," Nina ordered, opening a drawer, numerous bottles clinking as she rummaged around.
Jesper gently set Y/N down on the table, carefully laying her down and moving her arms to rest on the wood. He took his jacket off and bundled it up, lifting Y/N's head up and setting the material underneath her head.
Kaz stood in the doorway, hands tightly wrapped around his cane, the metal beginning to cut through his gloves and into his hands. In any of building, in any other city in the world, he would've looked like an omen of death.
He forced himself to stare at Y/N as Jesper helped Nina unwrap Inej's scarf from around Y/N's side.
Kaz shuddered as his mind shoved Jordie to the front, the feeling of his brother's cold, bloated skin against his, drowning him. He was drowning in Jordie; in Y/N dying on the table in front of him.
Nina was muttering to herself as she worked, one hand around Y/N's wrist, the other holding a pile of gauze to her side. Kaz watched her intently and could see her counting Y/N's heartbeat as she tried to stop the bleeding.
Which is why, because Kaz was watching Nina with such intensity, that when Nina paused her muttering and looked down at Y/N, her eyes slowly widening, did Kaz feel his own heart shudder and almost stop.
Nina let go of Y/N's wrist, dropping her hand onto the table. She brought her hands together, her first two fingers overlapping each other, and then brought them down onto Y/N's chest.
It was as if Kaz could hear Y/N's heart slowing down and not speeding up. He watched as Nina repeated her movements, determination and panic and fear written on her face as her eyes welled up.
Kaz swallowed and felt the ocean overwhelming him again. He saw Y/N staring back at him, lifeless and dead just like Jordie. Her beautiful eyes staring emptily back at him, void of life. He'd failed her like he'd failed Jordie. The most important thing in his life was dead.
Inej was frantically praying, clutching her knife, Sankt Alina, tightly. Jesper was still for the first time since he'd carried Y/N in, his eyes red with tears as he stared at Y/N's limp, bloody body.
Kaz took one look at Nina and saw the dwindling hope in her eyes, the tears streaming down her face and turned around, walking out the room, his cane clacking loudly against the floor.
Nina sobbed and repeated her movements one more time, desperately trying to get Y/N's heart to start beating again. She'd saved Matthias in the middle of the ocean, during a hurricane, she could save Y/N.
Nina brought her hands down on to Y/N's chest once more with, perhaps, more force than needed. She kept them there and willed the organ inside her friend to not give up.
To keep going.
Second by second, Nina felt it slowly begin to beat again. Nina kept her hands on Y/N's chest, scared that if she moved even an inch it might stop beating again. Second by second, the colour began to slowly come back into Y/N's skin and Nina sighed, dropping her head in relief.
Inej let out a happy sob and closed her eyes, praying to her Saints once again and thanking them.
"Jesper, come here and wrap her wound, stop making that face, it's a bullet wound, you'll be fine," Nina snapped, glaring at Jesper when he balked at the thought, all thoughts of death and misery gone, their usual banter slowly returning.
Jesper walked around to stand next to Nina and took a clean wad of gauze and drenched it in alcohol. He pulled Y/N's bloody shirt up and gently pressed it to her side. His other hand reached up to Y/N's face and with a clean, damp cloth, he began wiping the dried blood off her skin.
"Oh, Saints, Kaz!" Inej exclaimed suddenly, making Jesper and Nina jump. She flew out the room like a breeze and dashed up the stairs to Kaz's office where he'd inevitably retreated.
Kaz was stood hunched in front of his mirror, his gloves off, his head hung. Inej walked in slowly, making sure to announce her presence by stepping on the creaky floorboard by the door.
"Don't," Kaz said, his voice croaking and Inej realised that he was crying. "Don't say it."
"Kaz," Inej said softly, slowly approaching him.
"No, Inej!" Kaz snapped, whirling around to stare at her. His eyes were red and his hair was a mess and his hands were shaking. "I took her for granted. I never," Kaz took a deep, shaky breath in, "I never told her or even showed her just how much..."
Even now, even when she was dead, he couldn't bring life to the words. They sat dead on his tongue, poisoning him. He hated his brother for making him this way. Hated Ketterdam for being the way it was. He even hated Y/N for being so fucking perfect that he had to fall in love with her. He was a fool so desperately in love that it scared him endlessly.
"Kaz," Inej repeated, slowly, gently, laying a hand on his arm.
The sleeves of his shirt were rolled up but Inej made sure to place her hand on the part that was still covered. Kaz flinched but didn't tell her to remove her hand or move back.
"Kaz," Inej said again. "Y/N isn't dead. She's alive. Nina brought her back."
Kaz turned his head and locked eyes with Inej. He didn't say anything but Inej understood. She nodded, reassuring him that she was being honest.
Perhaps, if Y/N hadn't been around, they would have fallen in love. Maybe it would be Inej he was crying over. Maybe it would have been Inej lying there, injured. Maybe Kaz would have torn the city apart to find the man who had injured her.
But he had Y/N. She was alive, three flights of stairs below, with Nina and Jesper at her side.
"I'll find him," Inej promised, dropping her hand from Kaz's arm and pulling her hood up.
"Leave some for me," Kaz said lowly, his eyes following Inej to the window. "I feel like ripping an eyeball or two out."
Kaz slowly limped down the stairs to Y/N's bedroom. He could hear numerous voices from inside and hesitated outside the door. Kaz Brekker, Bastard of the Barrel, heistated.
"Kaz, just come in already!" Nina yelled from within.
Kaz rolled his eyes and opened the door. "Stop spying on me, Zenik."
"It's difficult not to when your heartbeat is so loud," Nina replied, raising her eyebrows knowingly.
Y/N snorted and Kaz looked at her. She was sat on her bed with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. Jesper sat next to her, his arm around her shoulders. Y/N was half leaning on Jesper and half on the wall and looked so alive.
Inej had found the man who'd shot her and, together, they'd ripped the man's eyes out, slit his throat and thrown his body onto the Reaper's Barge. It had helped quell the ghosts threatening to haunt him once again but they hadn't truly abated until Kaz had gotten to look at Y/N and see her talk.
Y/N gave him a smile and Kaz nodded back at her, trying to hide his relief at how alive she looked.
She was alive. She wasn't dead. She wasn't Jordie. She wasn't going anywhere. She was still here, with him, in Ketterdam. And he wasn't going to let her go.
"There's blood on your shoes, Kaz," Y/N said, gesturing to his black shoes with her head, her voice almost startling him.
Kaz looked down and eyed the single drop with distaste. So there was. A single drop. All that was left of the man who'd shot her.
Y/N laughed at the look on Kaz's face. "He looks like he just sucked a lemon," she said to Jesper, albeit loud enough for Kaz to hear too.
"No, that's his normal face," Jesper replied, smirking as he winked at Kaz.
Y/N laughed, throwing her head back. Her hair fell over her shoulder and her eyes sparkled in the dim, orange light of her room. Her laugh was like music to him.
And Kaz Brekker realised with a sudden, painful thud that he was completely and utterly besotted with her.

“Lucky for me, I’ve got another Fjerdan to confirm your information.”
As Y/N climbed the stairs to the deck, her palm sliding along the wooden railing, she could hear Kaz’s gritty voice booming from above. She’d joined the job at the last moment after a last ditch effort of begging Kaz to allow her to join. Of course he was hesitant bringing along someone so fresh, new and untested, but relying upon the intelligence of a Fjerdan fugitive was not something Dirtyhands wanted to do. And so here Y/N was, on a bobbing ship bound for the country she left so long ago.
“Don’t you trust me demjin?” The question was a snarl, one of an animal bound and caged, silently fearful of there being no escape in sight.
As Y/N stepped onto the main deck, light pouring over her form, she felt as though she were basking in the feeling of home. That rough accent traveling on the high sea winds was a jolting reminder of home, of the family she once had. Of the small village she’d once lived in, just a few miles from the coast, wedged between frozen rivers and thick pine forests. She could nearly smell the pine sap in the air, the chilling breeze seeping into her bones.
And as she opened her eyes, she swore she was hallucinating for a moment. Squinting at the blond burly man, she allowed her gaze to roam over his face. Those features were foreign yet so familiar. On the outside was a war hardened soldier, fighting for a country he blindly pledged loyalty too. Fighting too young. But underneath, Y/N could still peer at the little boy she had grown up beside. The lopsided grin on the squarely set jaw, now clenched so tightly he looked like he might snap his own teeth off. Ignoring the shaven head, she could still remember the wavy blond locks he’d had, that seemed to shine like gold during the summer months.
It was Matthias and somehow at the same time, not him at all.
Y/N stood frozen, simply staring at her childhood friend who stared back with a sense of disbelief. All she wanted to do was run to his side, fall to her knees, and hug him until her arms gave out. But she couldn’t. They weren’t little naive children anymore, running through a field of snow as reindeer migrated through the village. Their grubby hands no longer sought out freshly baked cookies on the countertops. She no longer braided her hair like her mother had done, no longer placed a ruby red ribbon in the braid like the one Matthias had given her.
Deep inside, Y/N knew they both changed that night the Grisha had struck their village. An eye for an eye seemed to be the one thing shared between drüskelle and drüsje. When her father had been struck down, heart stopped in his own chest, her mother had fled with Y/N’s hands in hers. Running far far away from that quaint village. Away from their cozy patchwork quilts, made of whatever pieces of spare fabric could be found at the time of their making. Away from the tiny cabin that had been their home, that had provided shelter during blizzards, warmth during the winters. Away from her father lying dead on the ground, eyes blankly staring up at the sky. Away from Matthias, wherever he was.
Staring into his eyes now, she knew something horrible had happened. The blues within his eyes had once reminded her of the spring melt, when clear blue water came streaming down from the snow-capped mountains. It was the sign of new life, of rebirth in Fjerda. Those soft blues were like the little tiny wildflowers that would sprout over the tundra, only to be grazed by horses or livestock. But now, there was no hint of softness in those blue irises. They were hard. Solid like ice that could run for miles underfoot. No matter how long you chiseled away, it was ice. Endless ice. That pale, nearly white, blue - unrelenting to any outside force.
“Y/N,” Matthias breathed out, barely audible over the howling winds.
But Kaz heard that single word, his hawk-like eyes flashing between the two Fjerdans. His jaw was set tight, muscles twitching every few seconds. “You two know each other?”
Nodding, Y/N took another step forward until she was standing by Kaz’s side, whose long coat flapped wildly in the wind like a large black sail, pushing them towards the icey country.
Matthias’s eyes stirred with something Y/N couldn’t quite place her finger on. Was it concern, a longing for their childhood, happiness over their reunion? And when she glanced at Kaz, she couldn’t describe his expression either. His dark eyes, like billowing storm clouds, seemed to swirl with anger, resentment… jealousy even.
“We grew up together in Fjerda,” Y/N clarified, reminiscing with nearly a smile upon her face. “His house was just a few down from mine.”
“How do you know this demjin?” Matthias’s gaze bore into hers as he questioned her in Fjerdan, voice heavily laced with concern.
Heart thudding in her chest, Y/N fumbled over her own words. It felt wholly impossible to describe whatever her relationship was with the Bastard of the Barrel. It wasn’t friendship yet it also wasn’t more… just that odd inbetween. Mutual appreciation?
In Fjerdan, she mumbled, “I met him in Ketterdam. He’s taught me the ropes.”
Scrunching up his nose and crossing his arms, Kaz harshly snapped, “I am right here, you know.”
But the two Fjerdans pointedly ignored him, now in the midst of a silent argument, staring at each other with fiery eyes as they did as children.
“He is not good for you.”
Y/N scoffed as her hands fell into place on her hips. “And you think you know what’s good for me? Years after we went our different paths.”
“He is an evil man,” Matthias snarled. “I can see it in those soulless eyes.”
“Don’t you even start!”
“I was imprisoned, Y/N! All because his Grisha pet claimed me a slaver.”
The last word of Matthias’s proclamation was spoken in clear Ravkan, as perfect a pronunciation as the Fjerdan man could muster. It was a clear message to Kaz as to the topic the two were discussing in their native language. Matthias’s eyes gazed at hers, eyebrows slightly furrowed as though he were begging. Begging for her to see his side, to understand why he was so concerned.
But Y/N simply shook her head, glancing at Kaz and speaking in Ravkan, “There must have been a misunderstanding.”
Matthias’s face grew red, the shade of beets her mother had harvested in the summer months. Standing up, he furiously reached towards Y/N fumbling to grab ahold of her wrist. “These Ravkan and Kerch people are horrible.”
“That is quite enough from you, Helvar,” Kaz snapped once more and with a swing of his cane, brought it roughly down upon the Fjerdan man’s shoulder.
The first day had been rough, taut tension rippling through the air between the Fjerdan and the Kerch as Y/N now liked to call them. The two men that marked the two different lives she had lived. Matthias with the naive girl who not once even wondered of a life outside her little Fjerdan village. The girl who made sticks into swords and rocks into cannon balls. And they’d played on those snowy fields, each commanding their own invisible army and conducting their own duels. Of course, like the little gentleman he was, a quiet and reserved boy, far too timid for the games the other boys played, Matthias had always let her win.
And now there was the current version of her, the one whose life was marked by Kaz. That naive little girl had no clue what to do when arriving upon the docks at Ketterdam, her mother gravely ill from the tedious journey. And when she was left all alone, stranded and lonely, not a person to turn to for comfort on those grimy streets, was when Kaz appeared. Practically a knight in shining armor, someone to guide her through the city that rode that fine line between life and death.
In a way, he’d saved her. Silently directed her along the easier path, placing a few kruge in her pocket when she needed it. Whatever she needed, he provided some way, somehow. That was when her loyalty turned away from Fjerda and it’s gleaming snowy fields, her mind turned away from Matthias. And after that, it was Kaz… just Kaz.
Now as the ship cut through the harsh waters, ever heading more north, she could hardly stand the two men glaring daggers at each other. Part of Y/N thought, if given the chance, they’d willingly throttle each other to death. It would simply be a matter of who could throw the other overboard first. And as mildly entertaining as it sounded, that was one thing she did not want to witness.
By her side, Kaz fidgeted with a large padlock, tossing the rusted object between his hands as he worked those fingers, picking and relocking it. He liked to think he was a figure of confidence going into a job, the commander standing proud at the front of an army, head held high and shoulders pinned back. But really, he was a bit of an anxious mess. Everyone around just pointedly avoided the topic. Kaz always had his thing going. Something to work with his hands, something to exercise his brain.
“Can you show me?” Y/N found herself asking. For the longest time she admired the ways he could work a lock as though it were an extension of himself. How with just a few gentle clicks, like a puppet master pulling strings, anything would open to do Kaz’s bidding.
Kaz nodded, one corner of his lips turning up into what could resemble a smug smile. Outstretching her hand, she wrapped her fingers around the padlock he’d dropped into her palm. The metal was smooth under her touch, polished but tarnished by the rough patches of rust. It was like a little secret held within her hand.
Matthias, whose head was turned towards the churning waves, staring off into the distance for any sign of the icey coastline, chirped sarcastically, “In Fjerda, breaking into locked places is a crime. Is it not that way in Kerch?”
Y/N sent a scathing glare in his direction, just like how she used to when they were children. A smug grin sprouted upon Matthias’s lips, the same boyish look he had as a child. Even back then, they butted heads - the type of friendship anomaly where both were so different, yet so frustratingly alike. A sudden urge rose inside Y/N to poke her tongue out at the boy, but she didn’t. Instead, she rolled the padlock in her hands, cradling it like a precious jewel.
“Picking locks is an art,” Kaz began, folding both gloved hands in his lap as he learnt forward. “It takes time and practice, but it’s all in the hands. Locks are no different from people. With just a nice, light touch, a flick of the fingers, you can bend the object to your will.”
Gazing up into Kaz’s eyes, she thought he was more like the locks than anything else. Vehemently guarded and yet, the softness was still there. Way down beneath the tough exterior, vulnerable secrets held closely to the heart. If only she could scratch away at that, expose the truth beneath so she could know. Know Kaz for who he truly was, not this scary legend around him. But rather the true Kaz, the part of him that reigned over the motivations, the values, the reasons why he did what he did.
That was all she wanted in the world. To get to know Kaz. To learn the secrets of his trade, model herself in his image. To be talented enough to pick locks, twirl guns, and throw knives. To be someone worthy of being a Crow.
Each of the members of their group took turns peering through those glasses to examine the prisoner wagon rattling along the road on its way to the palace gates.
“This is genius,” Jesper breathed out, his eyes wide as he stared through the glasses.
All of them were jittery, adrenaline running through their veins that was nearly as cold as the Fjerdan ice. It chilled them to their core, but also stirred something inside. A deep wanting, a desire to make this whole job a success. To walk out of Fjerda in one piece, return to Ketterdam where their hands would be full of kruge.
“This is idiotic,” Matthias grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned back in his chair. His nose wrinkled up in disgust at the rather unappealing food placed in front of him, but Y/N would be willing to bet her life, some of that disgust was also meant for Kaz.
“How so?” Inej inquired as her thin frame practically leaned over the railing, staring at the prisoner wagon that slowed to a roll by the guard’s station.
“It would be,” the Fjerdan man admitted. “If Kaz knew everything about the Ice Court.”
An icey silence fell over the group as Matthias looked happily smug, a devilish grin upon his lips as he stared at the high walls of the Ice Court. The Crows all glanced at one another, fear sparking in their eyes at the thought of the Fjerdan destroying their heist.
Clenching her fists, Y/N sat up higher in her seat as she stared down her childhood friend. “Matthias if you don’t tell us, I swear to Djel I’ll-”
“He’s bluffing,” Kaz casually announced, wholly unbothered by Matthias’s little drama show.
“What?”
“Your dear Matthias wouldn’t risk withholding information to put you in danger. And he’s certainly not clever enough to think of blackmail.”
“Demjin,” he muttered under his breath, not daring to glance at Kaz’s face.
“Can you two just stop it?”
Both men practically jumped in their seats like nervous rabbits, staring at Y/N, and everyone else curiously watched the confrontation.
“I can’t go on with the two of you at each other’s throats,” Y/N begged, glancing between both of them. Matthias shifted uneasily in his seat, glancing back yet again at the large stone walls lying just down the road.
“A truce, please? You don’t have to like each other, or even think of one another as friends. But please just stop snapping.”
Tense silence hovered in the air as Kaz and Matthias both eyed one another, their jaws tense and heads held highly with confidence as if both were Kings on a chessboard. But ultimately both nodded, giving in to Y/N’s plea for the same reason - to please her. Neither wanted to see her upset, eyes wide and voice wavering as it was now. They both treasured the times when she smiled so widely that her eyes sparkled. Both aimed to see her happy, as carefree as a butterfly crafted of the most intricate hues and patterns fluttering in the wind.
Perhaps the Fjerdan and the Kerch weren’t so different after all.

this was super fun to write thank you @aggressivetapdancing for requesting this!
It’s not surprising that Minho is a touchy boy
He just can’t keep his hands to himself
For the most part, you can live without him all over you since he’s gone most of the day while in the maze
Minho, on the other hand, can’t wait
it’s physically impossible for him to be away from you that long
his favorite part of the day is coming back from the maze and seeing you
sometimes you’ll be in the middle of having a conversation and Minho will throw you over his shoulder because he just wants alone time with you
BUT ANYWAY CUDDLE TIME
Minho tends to pull you into his chest with your back against him because it gives him the opportunity to kiss your neck since he knows you’re super ticklish
He’ll also whisper things in your ear that are a bit too dirty to repeat but his usual habit is kissing your neck inbetween words
“ You *kiss* Are *kiss* Goregous.”
his arm is usually around your waist or stomach and underneath your short because hey Minho loves skin contact
you rarely have blankets over the two of you since Minho just radiates heat
blankets are only used for when you two aren’t wearing anything ;)
BUT ANYWAY
It drives Minho crazy whenever you wear his shirts to cuddle with because WOW you look like a hot tamale
I keep getting sidetracked BUT your favorite “posistion” is when you rest your head on his chest because you can hear his heartbeat
It’s easy for Minho to run his fingers through your hair and to leave a bunch of kisses all over your face
Minho’s grip isn’t too strong
like you can obviously breath normally but his hold is secure and laying with Minho is the most comfortable thing in the world
His hands tend to wander underneath your shirt (100% with your consent) and you can always feel him drawing shapes on your hips
On some days, Minho will fall asleep because he’s exhaused from running all day but he somehow always manages to talk about the deepest things while cuddling you
“Why is it so difficult to make things easy but easy to make things difficult?”
“ Why do people fear losing things that they don’t even have yet?”
If you cuddle with Minho before a shower, his scent is more earthy and for some reason you’re just more drawn to him??
But after a shower he just smells so minty (he uses your shampoo, you can tell cause you’re the only person in the glade who uses jasmine scented anything)
like you love burying your face in his neck because UGH
(Personally I feel like Minho would smell like Old Spice or Gillette? Opinions on that?)
Minho would defintely try and lay with you as long as possible because he just loves being so close to you
BUT HE FREAKS OUT WHEN YOU PRESS YOUR COLD FEET AGAINST HIS CALF
He doesn’t necessarily flip out but he’ll whine about it everytime your foot accidentally brushes up against him
“ Y/N, if you keep doing that I’m going to cut your feet off!”
He’s probably joking?? Either way you haven’t stopped doing it and you still have all of your toes so YAY!
