man i fucking LOVE how hard bucchigiri?! commits to arajin being a complete shit, it's so relatively rare for shows not to rush to redeem their asshole mcs which is, eh, fine but often uncompelling
like the most predictable way for this fight to have gone would have of course been for arajin to lose his will to fight (even to live, dramatic ass lmao) after being rejected by mahoro, and then rediscover that will when he sees matakara hurt, and realizes he doesn't want the past to repeat
would have been fine i guess but in all honesty ARAJIN HAS NOT EARNED THAT MOMENT. yes from the flashbacks he gets, and the timing of them, it's obvious a lot of his current complex has to do with him not being able to protect matakara in the past. he either doesn't want to be put in a situation where he has to protect someone again, where he can fail, or he can't forgive himself for the past (or both)
but he also is genuinely a gross horndog and it's seriously refreshing that the show has the balls to continue to let him be that. i feel like way too many series are so concerned* about making their protags likeable that they forget to let them be interesting, and forget that sometimes shitbags that are not at all likeable can be SO fun to watch (like arajin is)
anyway arajin is still The Worst and i'm so glad for that 🥰
*i guess in all fairness this isn't exactly an unwarranted concern bc so many viewers these days also fail to realize that a character that is not a likeable person is not necessarily a bad/uninteresting character lmao, it's like. a shame that shows have to walk on eggshells with these things but. for shows that want to be widely marketable. understandable i guess. it's just sometimes (many times, in fact almost all the time)... things that are widely marketable...... are worse.........
I just reread Love Bullet and I'm back in obsession mode!
So, theory time!!
In Koharu's backstory, there's this one panel that briefly showed a Cupid's intervention
And like, it isn't seen who that cupid was, and since they don't dwell on it, we're made to assume it was someone random and irrelevant, BUT
Don't we know a certain cupid who uses bombs?
And another thing!! It was Kanna who greeted Koharu when she first woke up as a cupid
Not only that, she was assigned as her mentor
She also seemed to already know that Koharu was best friends with Aki
SO! With all that being said, what if Kanna was watching over Koharu even before the latter became a cupid?
We've seen how perceptive Koharu is when it comes to spotting people who are compatible as a couple
So what if Kanna recognised Koharu's accuracy and started using her love advice to others as basis for which target to shoot?
We've already seen in the pilot that she trusts in Koharu to have the final say
What if the reason Kanna dotes on her so much is because, aside from being her mentor, she had already developed a sort of fondness for her when Koharu was still alive?
Anyway that's all I have in mind! Just some random thoughts from this stranger :D
For a show I don't see a lot of fans for, there is SO MUCH merch coming out. The announcements just keep coming. Bucchigiri Twitter page is full of them 😵💫.
I ain't complaining though. Gotta find some money asap.
You're wasting your tongue with lame excuses and lies
Now what's on your nasty old mind?
“Who Really Cares” TV Girl album cover redraw
CAN THEY COOK?- project: eden's garden cooking headcanons
detailed explanation for each placement, starting from "let them cook" to "do not let them in a kitchen unsupervised." everything's below the cut:
-ingrid and eloise have big families and they have siblings, so it only makes sense they can cook well. desmond's mom and dad run a chain restaurant, so i feel like he'd be a good cook by proxy. -if there are people you trust to take you to a good restaurant, i feel like it'd be wenona, toshiko, and jean. partially vibes based but wenona would know when those ingredients are good and fresh, toshiko would appreciate expensive but also simple and affordable meals and jean has enough experience around his crew to understand how people's palates differ (as well as having tried a variety of dishes) -grace is an athlete. she will have her "cheat days" but other than that she is DEDICATED. veggies and grains before playing and protein after. i feel like she'd hate those weird health shakes though. she makes and breaks the rules as she wishes
-kai is the type of guy who strikes me as someone who is a good cook. there are a few dishes he can make off the top of his head and they're probably all specific internet dishes (i.e. pancakes, breakfast bowl, veggie pasta... myriad of drinks etc.) buttt i think if you asked him to just fry an egg he'd somehow burn it.
-damon's parents probably taught him how to cook as a life skill and also as #bondingtime. he'd probably know how to make some traditional japanese dishes but like i also feel like he gets a bit lazy with cooking sometimes (either because he's too locked in studying or he's just tired). so like, a bowl of cereal or a boiled egg and plain toast and a banana. i like to think kai and co. bring him to restaurants or cook with him so it's easier.
-diana, diana, diana. if you believe that she is italian then i do think she could cook some great italian food. but in all honesty i feel like half of her meals are things you don't have to cook (as in over a stove or in an oven). diana 100% is a baker though. she is the type of person to bring freshly baked brownies for the class. i headcanon she, ingrid, toshiko and eloise help her out.
-i am so hard pressed to believe these guys eat enough veggies.
-all busy + don't feel like cooking + it's faster to take out food. once in a while they will cook but it is rare. their food is edible to them and that's all that matters
-cassidy is a MENACE on the grill though (proof? that one eden's island promotional art). ask her to fucking grill anything and she will DELIVER. same goes with jett but i believe cassidy is the better grill dad here
-this is a joke but why can I see jett, cassidy and mark going to restaurants guy fieri style
-i feel like eva is the type of person to be like "i can cook" but she ABSOLUTELY cannot. you'll be in the kitchen with her and she would be too embarrassed to admit she can't despite the fact she is continuously failing. she gets the hang of it after a while -wolfgang doesn't know how to do his own laundry so i assume he can't cook (bc he spent all his time studying as a kid) -if you asked ulysses if he could cook he'd be like "sort of?" he can follow a recipe, but if something goes wrong he panics a bit. i think he forgets to feed himself sometimes -i think tozu would make a mean shepard's pie (pun not intended). i feel like he likes french food. while he jokes about british food he finds it very unexciting and bland. he is genuinely a good cook but would absolutely troll you by putting a "secret ingredient" in his food (i.e. putting pineapple in lasagna) unfortunately, this would be ineffective on someone like kai or eva who like "weirder" food combos
The ova announcement brought back my obsession with this anime and with them >:)
went on twitter and actually i think some ppl are slightly misunderstanding what matakara meant when he accused arajin of lying. like...it's true, arajin never lied to matakara about wanting to fight in the present, so it would be unreasonable to call him out on that specifically. but like
with the way the emphasis is placed on arajin's strength the whole argument, plus the cut to the flashback, matakara was asking if a) arajin's strength/bravery, and b) the promise made to him in the past, the foundation of their entire childhood friendship, were a lie. which, y'know, the promise wasn't, arajin definitely meant it at the time. but arajin doesn't want to admit that or outright deny it, so he deflects by saying it's not true anymore.
to me the focus of the argument was arajin forcing matakara to see him as he sees himself (ie. as a weak, selfish coward), shattering matakara's delusional idea of him in the process. arajin using senya to become strong isn't an inherently malicious lie, and i honestly don't think matakara thinks that either. to matakara the 'lie' is both the version of arajin he made up and the genuine things arajin told him in the past.
If Nintendo wasn't a coward then Style Savvy: Styling Star could've had an afterstory where Alina and Yolanda heard a rumour that Camilla was going to propose to Rosie and they wanted to see it in person and you had to give them disguises so you dress Alina in bold clothes and Yolanda in lively clothes and Camilla and Rosie go to a fancy restaurant for their date and Yolanda and Alina are sitting a few tables away and Rosie sees them and is like "Alina and Yolanda what are you doing here" and Alina is like. "Uh. I'm not Alina. I'm. Alana." And Yolanda says "And I'm...Jolene." And Rosie is fooled by this and says "oh sorry lol" and continues her date and Camilla doesn't propose and Alina and Yolanda go DAMMIT I guess we were wrong. And they go back to your boutique and are like "We shouldn't give up that easily" and you give Yolanda a gothic outfit and Alina a feminine outfit and Rosiemilla's next date is at an amusement park and Rosie sees them again and goes "Huh. You know I have two friends that look just like you, but the one with long hair likes feminine clothes, and the one with short hair likes gothic clothes" and they're like sweating and going "HUH YEAH WILD" and then they get the hell out of there while still being in the amusement park and Camilla doesn't propose again and they go "That was too close. We're not trying that again." And then Rosie shows up to your boutique and goes "I need a really nice girly outfit for my next date with Camilla" and you can choose to do her makeup and hair too if you want and then on their next date which is in a more private place which Rosie invited you to third wheel to she gets down on one knee and proposes and Camilla of course says yes and then Yolanda and Alina show up in your boutique again and you go "guess what" and they go "NO WAY" and it culminates in you picking out two white party dresses for Rosie and Camilla for their wedding
Talking more on the theme of delusion, Matakara relies on it as an escape from his sensitive emotional nature. Since childhood he's been susceptable to these dark thoughts, which his brother (and presumably kid Arajin) helped him deal with. Now, without his brother, the ideal of Arajin he cultivated since childhood, the one who believed in becoming a Honki person with him, is the main thing able to distract him from his painful reality. He was writing a letter to his brother the first time one of the shadows appeared in the series and he proceeded to pick up the stone stamp in order to calm himself. After Arajin rebuffed him when he asked him to call off the gang war, other shadows appeared and he needed to rely on the connection with his brother in order to find strength and later appeal to Mahoro. As he is now, he needs some kind of ideal or delusion to be able to keep functioning.
