Types of Girls: sky edition
Star girls: loves rose gold and glittery makeup, always down to have fun, thrives on excitement, stands up for their friends, self doubt, a night owl, glowing skin
Moon girls: always appears serene, doesn’t like to reveal true feelings, the mom-friend, knows how to make you feel better, sensitive, may be fake-happy
Sun girls: in love with adventures, obsessed with people they like, easily distracted, tries hard to fit in, likes picnics and roses, radiant smile, loves singing
Cloud girls: cute dimply smiles, can bottle up emotions until they burst, enjoys sunsets and lava lamps, likes creating art and photography, carefree
Rain girls: likes diaries and making playlists, easily anxious, feels at peace among nature, sad resting face, very affectionate, has an eye for aesthetics
(Be careful, these are casual expressions you can use with your friends but do NOT write them in essays!)
We use this word for literally anything: when we’re happy, amazed, annoyed, disgusted… Examples: “C’est génial putain!”, “Putain, ça me fait chier!”, “Mais bouge-là ta caisse putain!”. We also use it in front of nouns: “Cette putain de machine”
When something is great, amazing. It’s the “verlan” (reverse) of the word “fou”, which means crazy. Examples: “Ce match est ouf!”, “C’est un ouf lui!”, “C’est un truc de ouf!” We also use it when something bad or scary happened but we finally made it, it’s a word of relief. Examples: “Ouf, on s’en est sorti!”, “Ouf, on a eu chaud”
This expression uses the same words as before but means something different. We use “de ouf” to mean that something is extra, too much. It’s usually a reply to agree with someone. Examples: “- Il était tellement bourré hier soir! - De ouf!”
The closer translation to “avoir la flemme” would be “to be lazy”. But I don’t think that there is any word in English that comes close to the concept of “flemme”. You can have “la flemme” to do basically anything. Examples: “ -Tu viens à la soirée ce soir? -Non, j’ai trop la flemme” , “J’ai la flemme de la faire la vaisselle”
It literally means “at the edge of the bowl”, we use this expression when we’re over something, when we can’t stand it anymore, when it’s annoying us. It can be used for a thing or for a person. Examples: “J’en ai ras-le-bol de mes voisins”, “J’en ai ras-le-bol de répéter tout le temps la même chose”
Probably the only word of this list which is not a slang but actually a word that you would find in books and that you can use in essays etc. “Flâner” means to walk slowly, to enjoy your time, to wander aimlessly just for the pleasure to walk and to enjoy your environment. Example: “Elle a flâné dans les rues de Lille tout l’après-midi”, “Ils aiment flâner dans les allées du magasin”
When something is out, when it’s not trending anymore and it’s a bit shameful to like it or wear it. Example: “Cette chanson est trop ringarde”, “Porter des pantalons pattes d’eph c’est ringard”
This is the “verlan” (reverse) of the word “lourd”, which means heavy. “Relou” means that something or someone is annoying you or that it’s boring or annoying. Example: “Le bus a 15 minutes de retard, c’est relou”, “Ce mec est tellement relou”
To go crazy, to burn out Example: “Si ça continue comme ça je vais péter un cable”, “Il a pété un cable au bar hier soir”
Someone who wears old or ridiculous clothes such as socks with flip-flops. The stereotype is that these persons are white, not very educated, live in the countryside, are quite poor, like drinking alcohol, listen to bad music, have bad hair etc… I’ll join a picture so that you can portray better what is means
The man from the picture is actually “Jeff Tuche”, a character from a popular movie in France called “Les Tuche” which is the story of a beauf family who wins the lottery. Examples: “C’est un camping de beauf”, “Patrick Sébastien ne fait que des chansons de beauf”
To be mad, to be petty about something. We mainly use it when we’re annoyed because we lost or when we wanted something to happen but it’s not happening. Examples: “Ma mère veut pas que je sorte ce soir, j’ai le seum”, “Les belges ont le seum d’avoir perdu contre les français”
A mix of random objects Examples: “C’est un vrai bric à brac ta voiture”, “Je n’arrive plus à retrouver mon briquet dans ce bric à brac”
And the last one: Pouloulou, it’s not a word, it’s a feeling

you walk deep into the woods and flop onto your back into a snowbank, staring up at the bare trees and falling snowflakes as the sky gets dark, feeling as if you could lie there forever
you’re riding the subway late at night, listening to an old ipod classic. the car is dimly lit, it’s empty, and it seems as if the train will never stop, but you’re not going anywhere in particular
Just a lil side note: i almost failed maths in grade 5-8. Now, I’m doing 2 Maths subjects (straight A+’s) and ranked the third highest in my class for the harder maths subject (out of 20 students). You can do anything if you set your mind to it. Be persistent. Happy studying! :)
Even if the teacher doesn’t set homework, there is always an expectation that whatever excercise isn’t finished in class, you do at home! My maths class moves very fast (we do about 3 concepts/excercises each class) and so its crucial that the first thing I do when I get home, is finish off my maths questions! This is particularly important in the learning process, because if you understand it when you learn it, you will be far ahead of anyone else in an upcoming test- all you will need to do is revise!
This means:
- don’t sit next to anyone distracting
- work efficiently in class
- the time that your waste in class, is the time you will have to spend at home
In my harder maths class, there are about 20 questions per excercise/concept (100+ per chapter) and so we might only get told to do about half of that. But, I strongly reccommend doing all of the questions! It is great practice and really consolidates your learning!
ALSO, as the questions go on, they tend to get harder. DON’T GIVE UP IF THEY’RE TOO HARD. Ask the teacher’s help, persevere, or look for a video on YouTube. These are the questions that will most likely be in your tests/exams.
If you can do the hardest question, you can most likely do all the questions!
If you get a question wrong, do AT LEAST 5 more of the same style, make sure you know it well!
You cant really study for maths the same way that you might study for science. There is nothing to memorise (apart from formulas, but the best way to remember them is to practice). Studying for maths IS doing practice questions. That’s all there is to it.
- listen to some tunes (music with lyrics is fine for maths!)
- put on a movie ( just try to not get too distracted)
- find a comfy space
- just start studying.
Humans are creatures of habit. We like routines and we stick to them. BUT, studying maths can become tedious if you are constantly doing the same thing every time.
CHANGE IT UP Y'ALL:
- ditch the notebook and pencil. Buy some non-permanent glass markers and do some maths on your windows or mirrors! I do this ALL THE TIME! It’s actually really fun and it makes me feel like Russell Crowe from ‘A Beautiful Mind’ (haha). Alternatively, you could also use a whiteboard if you have one!
- study in the library or another part of your house!
- buy some different stationery (this is always so fun)
do all the chapter review questions in your textbook. These tend to be a compilation of all the most important questions you will need to know. Take your time, don’t give up.
Seek external resources for questions. I own other revision books for maths that isn’t part of my school’s recommended material. These really help when you need more questions to test yourself on.
Do practice papers. THESE ARE CRUCIAL. Most of the time, the material that they test you on will be from past papers, the questions are the same, but they change the numbers!
Take a deep breath. Drink some water. Focus. Time management is the issue for most people (including me :)), so when you feel like a question is too challenging, move on, come back to it when you finish with a fresh mind!
