RWatHT - Chapter 22: Knight's Return

Bill looked at his brother. His eyes were dark, and he had just mentioned… killing someone? That did not sound like him. When he had called out his name, he had expected him to throw one of his sarcastic comments or perhaps some form of joke. Instead, in the split second he had turned to look at their family he saw his brother’s features twisted into an angry, insane and murderous expression he had never seen on his face. 

It felt a bit out of place at the moment to tell them about his new girlfriend Fleur Delacour coming to Hogwarts since Bill had invited her. It felt even worse to tell them that he was planning to marry her, and had a wedding ring already inside his pocket. Instead, he watched the hall where his brother had disappeared to and wondered where he was headed. He watched Salazar Slytherin –Merlin was that weird– along with McGonagall, and Dumbledore escort the young Slytherin girl that Ron had nearly… killed to another room in the castle. Thinking that felt even weirder, and completely wrong. His baby brother killing someone… Bill couldn’t not believe it. In fact, he refused to believe it.

However, he had seen it. They had all seen it. The effects of Ron’s curse as he fired it at a girl his age without hesitation. Yes, the girl also seemed to have thrown a curse back that looked to be pretty damaging, but Bill could feel the fire from Ron’s spell, even while being a few yards away.

There must be some form of explanation. Surely his own brother had a good reason to incinerate a girl? Alright, that sounded pretty bad even with the worst of standards. However, he refused to believe that Ron had just decided to murder a Hogwarts student. Godric Gryffindor –again, it really was weird to be talking to an ancient wizard– had prepared rooms for them inside the castle. As he followed his family to the Great Hall for lunch, he thought of the way the day started. It had started quite well actually. He had come to the Burrow to screeches and cheers from his mother, after all it was not every day that Charlie would come home. When they had arrived at Hogwarts they had been welcomed by Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Godric Gryffindor himself inside the Headmaster’s office. Afterwards, they greeted the twins, and Ginny along with Harry and Hermione.

Molly Weasley had been so excited to see Ron, and had been asking Harry and Hermione about how he was doing. Harry responded awkwardly, not really giving her an answer. Hermione for her part looked hurt, and her voice waned as she struggled to properly explain how Ron had been. Bill was perplexed by her reaction, clearly something had happened between his baby brother and Hermione.

After that, McLaggen had entered the room, crashing the door against the wall. His face was bruised and beaten badly. There was blood pouring from his nose, lip and brow. His nose was also clearly broken, and bent weirdly. His eye had sunken behind a purple swollen bruise, and his cheekbone was looking quite the same with a cut that spilled blood down the side of his face. He looked like an absolute wreck. He was panting, and whining as he pointed at his face and inside the castle.

“Mr. McLaggen?!” McGonagall gasped at the young man’s predicament. She approached him, and waved her wand over his face. “Who did this to you?”

McLaggen’s injuries began to heal over. Soon enough his face looked to come back to normal, although Bill was not really sure. There was still a lot of snot, and tears that ran down his face. And he looked smarmy and reminded Bill of the Malfoy family for some reason. 

“Weasley!” McLaggen roared. Nearly all members of the Weasley family present looked at one another, wondering who he could be possibly referring to. Soon enough, Gryffindor approached McLaggen who cowered beneath his presence. “A-and Greengrass!”

Best HP Ship Hands Down. 

The height difference is everything. 

A few days ago the official Harry Potter Film Instagram page posted a montage. It had 3 scenes of 3 different ships. James/Lily, Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny asked 'what's your favourite ship?'

The amount of people who said Ron/Hermione just warmed my heart. I think 60-70% people picked Ron/Hermione.

Even the movie watchers know which is the superior ship. Imagine if they portrayed Ron/Hermione correctly on screen what could have happened...... 😢

So, in Greek Mythology, Heracles (yeah, it's not Hercules that's the roman one) has about 50 kids with 50 princesses. The Weasley family happens to descend from one of these kids, and Ron happens to inherit Heracles's powers. Strength, superhuman durability, superhuman senses and a strong sense of courage.

He has an irrational anger towards centaurs, has a good aim, finds Fluffy adorable, loves Care of Magical Creatures, and finds Luna's lion hat the coolest thing ever.

The fic mainly starts in GoF, but it has a few scenes of how Harry, Ron and Hermione deal with some of the things in their first three years. During the Triwizard Tournament Ron realizes he's not the only one with a god's powers.

That event however didn’t stop Fred and George’s teasing for a long time, they would sometimes throw kitchen knives and sharp objects at Ron and were always amused when said objects did nothing to their little brother.

Sometimes a small object would make its way under the fridge, like when Mr. Weasley had dropped his wand and it rolled under the fridge. Ron simply picked up the fridge and handed the wand back to his dad. Bill and Charlie were always impressed and they would ask Ron to throw a rock as hard as he could. Or throw a gnome with only his index finger and thumb to see how far he could throw it. Or to pick up a fallen tree trunk and making a bridge to go over the river in the forest near the Burrow. There was an endless amount of things that the two of them would come up with for Ron to do.

Percy would ask his father to bring him books regarding wizards with an incredible amount of strength like Ron, it was only until he had turned ten years old that he had given up and decided that maybe Ron was strong just because.

Ginny liked calling Ron his big strong brother. When she and Ron had to stay on the ground as there were no more brooms to play Quidditch with the others, she would wonder out loud what it was like to fly a broom, she had been five and Ron seven, but at that young age Ron simply picked her up and launched her upwards. She squealed in excitement as Ron kept tossing her like a Quaffle.

Imagine James and Ron ever met each other and realized that Harry just chose his dad as his best friend.

Ron: What do you mean? We’re not that alike

James: Yeah, I mean no offense but I’m not that similar to this guy.

Me: Describe your wife.

Ron and James (simultaneously): A brilliant muggle-born witch that didn’t get that well with me at the start and was in the same House as me.

Ron and James look at each other in surprise.

James (shocked): W-well that was just a coincidence.

Ron (equally as shocked): Y-yeah, just a coincidence.

Me: Describe your best friend.

Ron and James (simultaneously): Loyal impulsive guy who wasn’t liked at his home so he went to live with me.

Ron and James are shocked again.

Me: Quidditch or books?

Ron and James (quickly): Quidditch.

Me: Most noticeable thing about your wife’s appearance?

Ron and James (quickly): Her hair!

Me: Potions or transfiguration?

Ron and James (quickly): Transfiguration!

Me: What do you do to impress girls whenever they walk by?

Ron and James: I run my fingers through my hair to make it look windswept! 

Ron and Jame gasp.

Me: See? You’re really simi-

James: Do you have a Gryffindor dorm mate that seems like he is a coward but is still one of your three closest friend?

Ron thinking of Neville: Yep! How about a bigot prat in Slytherin that called the girl you fancied the M-slur?

James thinking of Snivellus: Check! Were you part of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team?

Ron: Bloody hell, yes! Did you ever break the rules or even the law to help your friends?!

James: Of course I did, why wouldn’t I? They’re my friends! Did you get an academic achievement even when you thought someone else would get it?!

Ron: Yes! I was prefect instead of Harry! Favorite quidditch team?

James: Ballycastle Bats

James sighing in relief as well: Really? I wouldn’t have pegged you for a team like that.

Ron: Well they’re underdogs. Someone needs to support them don’t you think?

James: I suppose so. And the Bats have all this weight on their shoulders because they’re the champions and everyone’s always expecting them to be the overachievers.

Ron and James (simultaneously): I really identify with them.

Both eyes get wide open as they look at each other and mirror their movements. 

James: Are you sure you are not my son?

Ron: I- I don’t know anymore.

Me: ...

RWatHT - Chapter 15: Bonding Over Fighting

Ron took off Harry's Invisibility Cloak, putting it inside his school bag. He took out the cigarettes Sirius had gifted him and pulled out one single cigarette. He had never really lit one, he had only caught Bill and Charlie a number of times lighting them up behind Dad’s shed, thinking they wouldn’t be able to be caught by anyone. Little did they know, Ron was watching. Just as he took out his wand, and put the cigarette on his mouth he heard steps climbing up to where he was.

He hid the cigarette in his pocket and put his hands behind his back, just to see Daphne Greengrass looking behind her. Her gaze suddenly met his and it seemed as if time had stopped. With his left arm inside a sling Ron could do little to defend himself if Greengrass were to attack him, even so he slowly reached for his wand.

“What are you doing here, Weasley?” Greengrass asked accusingly.

“I could ask you the same thing, Greengrass,” Ron responded. She opened her mouth seemingly ready to answer his question, when they heard another set of footsteps climbing up the stairs. Cedric Diggory seemed to have joined them, and he looked just as surprised as Ron and Daphne felt.

“What are you two doing here?” Cedric asked, eyebrow arched, an expression of confusion on his handsome features. “Out for a snog, aye?” He said, eyebrows wiggling at them, a subtle wink Ron almost didn’t catch.

“What?!” Ron and Daphne both exclaimed. “No!” Ron exclaimed at the same time that Daphne said, “Disgusting!”

And then another set of footsteps, these ones more light and somehow graceful, came from behind Cedric. Luna Lovegood had joined the trio of Tournament Champions. She wore her dreamy expression like always and had a small, but happy smile on her lips.

“Oh,” she said a few moments after assessing who was in the room. “Hello Ron, Cedric.”

“Luna?” Ron said questioningly. “What are you doing here?”

“Oh well, I saw Daphne Greengrass and Cedric enter the Astronomy Tower. I just wanted to see what they were doing, I didn’t know you were up here too. Is this a party?”

“What?” Greengrass almost barked. “Of course it’s not a party. It’s just a stupid coincidence.”

“Oh yeah? Then why are you out here?” Ron asked accusingly. 

“That’s none of your business, Weasley,” Greengrass stepped up menacingly towards Ron. “But for your information, I was just out for a walk. I needed a break from all the bloody noises inside my common room.”

“Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t know blood supremacy was hard to hear,” Ron said in a purely sarcastic tone.

“We’re not all blood supremacists!”

“Oh my bad,” in an obviously fake apologising tone. “Elitists, then.”

Here's the thing.

No, but also yes?

The way Ron is treated by his siblings is very specific. It's not like how they treat Percy where they all get annoyed by how pompous he is. Or the twins where they just roll their eyes and shrug their shoulders because what are you going to do? They're the twins.

Bill and Charlie seem like the most respectful, and my personal headcannon is that Ron is Charlie's favorite brother. Percy just acts the way he always does towards everyone else, the twins, Harry, Ginny, etc... So one could say his behaviour is quite normal. Up until OoTP that is, because we see how he genuinely worries about Ron's future in his letter, even if it is quite condescending and misguided, so I venture to say that the eldest siblings cared for Ron quite a lot.

Ginny and the twins is when things start to get complex. We don't see their treatment towards Ron become super aggressive or even downright bullying until Percy leaves, in his absence the twins find Ron to be their next target, notice how in GoF whenever Percy was not around it was Ron who they teased a lot more.

Then, Ron becomes a prefect, a couple of weeks after Percy, their own brother who was also the most recent prefect in the family, ditched them. Their association with prefects still relates to Percy, and this is not only for the twins and Ginny, but also for Ron himself. Ron is quite clearly scared to become the twins' new favorite punching bag (metaphorically).

And the reason he doesn't fight back is a big reason as to why Ginny acts the way she does. She sees the way the twins treat Ron, which is pretty harshly, and as to not be perceived like Percy, he does nothing to defend himself. Ginny sees that Ron becomes the punchline to every joke and decides to join in.

No matter, how you see it. Ron was in the right to be mad with Ginny in HBP for kissing Dean in a public place: she was in a place where she could've easily been found; she would've been a victim of gossiping, bullying and mockery; a professor could've caught them as well. Ron might've not used the words correctly, but he only tried to do what he thought was best for Ginny. She in turn virgin-shamed him, told him the girl he liked had already snogged the guy he was jealous of, and that he was pathetic. All in the span of a couple of seconds, and in front of his best friend.

Ron himself had been a victim of bullying throughout every single school year, wether it was because of his robes, his financial status, his quidditch skills. He knows how rough other students are, more than any of his siblings probably.

Ginny is very similar to the twins, she is very alike in the way she's assertive and has a mischievous vindictiveness to her (Zacharias Smith, Malfoy, etc...). She thinks it doesn't affect Ron, because they're only jokes, but sometimes those jokes are a bit too mean, and she doesn't care for it. She called Luna, who was her friend, Loony a nickname after her weird antics. She said Ron had a Pygmy Puff tattoo, because it was emasculating.

But she also cared about him, because at the end of the day they were siblings. They grew up together, but she was not the best sibling she could've or should've been.

Is Ginny a bad sibling to Ron?
