...a kiss as a promise for Luffy
You had never seen colours quite like it. Deep oranges burning into dark reds, rippled with blues so rich they seemed tinged with purple. It seemed the closer your ship drew to the Grand Line, the more ethereal the whole ocean became. Perched in the crow's nest on the Going Merry as the sunset painted the horizon in deep speckled tones, you wondered how you ever felt at home anywhere else.
It had been a couple of months since you left your island home in search of adventure and intrigue, all sparked by the moment you met a man more extraordinary than the night sky itself: Monkey D Luffy.
It had felt more natural than breathing when you met the famous straw hat captain, the two of you instantly falling in step in a way the rest of the crew chuckled about behind closed doors. Luffy always had such a strange way with people, often chaotic and always unpredictable. But you brought a quiet calm to the pirate that no-one had seen before, giving him a stable harbour in his life's stormy sea, slowing him down enough for him to finally settle and rest. On beautiful nights like tonight Luffy was more drawn to you than ever, the ship's proximity to the fated Grand Line only filling him with need to hold you near.
"Nami thinks we'll be in the waters of the Grand Line in just two more days." You expected Luffy to sound more excited about the announcement than he did, his eyes fixed straight ahead at the sunset as he spoke. His stony gaze betrayed the smile on his face, an air of uncertainty hanging in the space between you, his confidence seeming to falter for the first time.
"And then you're one step closer to being king of the pirates. You'll be achieving your dream soon." You reminded him, his smile softening into something more sincere as you closed the distance between the two of you and let your hand rest on his shoulder. He brought one arm up around your waist, his hand settling on your lower back as he held you and spoke again,
"Do you think someone can have two dreams?" He looked squarely at you as he said the words, the intensity in his eyes sending a shiver down your spine in anticipation.
"I think so. What's on your mind Luffy?" Your free hand swept a lock of hair out of his face, giving you a little more of him to examine as you searched for the meaning behind his cryptic words.
"You'll stay with me, right? When I've achieved my dream and I'm king of the pirates, and you've lived out your dream too. You're not going to go somewhere else after all this, are you? Or can it be somewhere we can go together? What happens after the Grand Line?" His words dripped slowly from his lips like honey, each one a falling grain of sand in the hourglass of time he feared would drive you apart.
It wasn't unusual for Luffy to cling to you like this when you were alone together, his arms encircling you whenever he could. But this the first time he'd voiced his need to cling to you beyond that. A first look to a future that he knew he needed to have you in. From a man who skated through so much by just knowing things would work out somehow, this moment of desperate uncertainty struck your heart with all the meaning it carried. Luffy had a second dream. One he believed in just as strongly as his undeniable destiny as king of the pirates. Luffy's new dream was you.
"I'll still be by your side when all of our adventures are done, Luffy." Your thumb stroked soft stripes over his scarred cheek, his brow dipping in thought as he pondered your reply. Wide brown eyes rose to search yours, deep murky pools of hope and need.
"Do you promise?" It was impossible to say no to a question posed so sweetly, his inner child shining through in these rare moments of vulnerability he saved for only you. You decided to do something you hadn't before, something you hoped would portray the enormity of your affections for him better than words ever could. You leaned forward, hopeful the rest of the crew weren't keeping a watchful eye over their fearless leader, and kissed Monkey D Luffy. It was just a gentle peck, his lips as warm and soft as his heart, the sea around you seeming to settle into a moment of serene silence the moment you touched him. Luffy made no effort to move, his arms lightly locked around your waist as he leant just the slightest bit of weight forwards, just enough to feel his lips press against yours. Your eyes fluttered shut as you stood frozen in time, letting the endless well of love and admiration you have for your captain spill out from your heart.
When you blinked your eyes open the sky had grown darker, and you couldn't tell if a second or an hour had passed as the two of you embraced. You pulled away and rested your forehead against his, breathlessly whispering the words he needed to hear,
"I promise."

would you fall in love with me again from epic......... but it's sanji and the reader after the events of wano after his exoskeleton activates
nyla, i just wanted you to know that this request absolutely broke me. it's been sitting in my inbox for almost two weeks but i finally got the time (and courage) to finish it!
i've been wanting to write a fic with this exact premise for a loooong time, but i'm glad i hadn't written it yet because this song is so perfect and fits incredibly well for this story. thank you for giving me inspiration, and the push to finally write this!
and i am nawt the best at writing angst but i really hope i did this story justice!
Tags: major spoilers for wano, sfw, angst, hurt/comfort, GN but written with F!Reader in mind, no use of y/n Disclaimer: some of the dialogues are taken directly from the song
A strange clanging roused you from your slumber.
You reached for the sheets beside you only to find them void of warmth. A sliver of moonlight penetrated the darkness of your room through the cracked open door that led to the castle gardens outside.
You slid the wooden frame open, revealing a figure hunched over on the ground, half hidden by the shadows, "Sanji, is that you? Are you alright?â
The banging stopped.
"Sorry, did I wake you? Please go back to bed, sweetheart, Iâm fine. Iâll be there in a minute."
You observed him for a momentâtaking in his seemingly permanent frown, the bags under his eyes, the slouch in his shouldersâand voiced the thought that had been bothering you since the battle on Onigashima ended a couple of days ago, "You look⌠different. Tired."
He refused to meet your eyes, his gaze remained fixed on the lush greenery of the garden.
"Tell me what's wrong."
Your plea broke his facade, and Sanji was no longer able to pretend that he was okay.
His breaths turned into short, shallow gasps. He gulped, jaws clenched tight, before he finally admitted, "I can't feel."
He pounded his fist once more against his abdomen to prove his point, the clang echoing unforgivingly amid the otherwise silent night, "I can't feel anything. There's no pain."
You surged forward, catching his wrist before his fist could fall upon his body again.
"No! Don't touch me!" He rasped, though there was no fight when you gently guided his hand to rest in his lap, "Please, I don't want to hurt you."
"Sanjiâ"
"It's that wretched Germa suit. It did something to me. Something foul."
He clutched his head, fingers digging into his scalp so forcefully that a few golden strands came loose and fluttered to the ground.
"I-I'm not the man you fell in love with, nor the one you once might've adored." He rambled, "I'm not k-kind or, or gentleâ"
"Sanji.â
You cradled his face in between your hands, pushing away his hair to take in both of his misty eyes. They were filled with a rare vulnerability that made your heart ache.
A choked sob escaped him as he finally looked at you.
In a voice so small it was nearly impossible to comprehend, he whispered, "Would you fall in love with me again? If you knew all I've done?"
You knew he was not only referring to what happened on Onigashima.
You didnât witness what went down between him and Luffy on Whole Cake Island, and you never had the urge to ask for the details. Sanji was back on the Sunny, he and Luffy were okay, and that was all that mattered.
Sanji's expression turned into one of disgust as he gestured to his body, "The things I cannot change⌠Would you love me all the same?"
The answer to that was as clear as day, but somehow, you doubt that he'd believe you just like that.
"What happened?" You asked instead, "During your fight with Queen?"
He grimaced as he recalled the bitter memories, "I⌠lost control. My mind went blank, then that girl was on the floor, bleeding."
He shut his eyes tight, "In the end, I found out that Queen was responsible for that, but I still can't forget that look she gave me. That girl⌠She was afraid of me. And rightfully so. She should be afraid of meâI'm turning into a monster."
Your chest burned with hatred for all the peopleâor rather, monstersâthat made your sweet Sanji feel this way.
Your fingers left his face as you stood up resolutely, "A monster, huh? If that's true, could you do something for me?"
He stared up blankly at you.
"Kick me."
Sanji fell on his knees to the ground in front of you. His face soured, brows furrowed as if the simple thought of bringing harm to you physically pained him, "How could you say that? No! I would never!"
He caught both of your hands, kissing them in turn with a gentleness that was oh so familiar to you.
You smiled, "Then I guess you're still my Sanji."
His eyes widened, then the dam broke.
His body shook as he weeped uncontrollably, and you crouched down again to take him into your arms.
Within seconds, the fabric of your yukata was soaked with tears and snot, but you never loosened your hold on him. Your hand rubbed soothing circles on his back as you let him ride out his grief.
And once his sobs turned into sniffles, then into steady breaths, you intertwined your fingers with his, your other hand reaching up to caress his cheek, "Can you feel this?"
He nodded.
"This?" You asked as you pressed your lips to his neck, leaving a tender kiss that left Sanji sighing blissfully.
"Does your heart still race when I do this?" You whispered in his ear, bringing your lips down to his and staying there for a few seconds before you pulled back, barely.
"Yes," He breathed out as your hand moved to his chest, confirming the quick rhythm of his heart underneath your palm.
"Then you're still my Sanji. You're still human. And nothing could change that."
You rested your forehead against his, "I will fall in love with you over and over again. I don't care how, where, or when. No matter what happens, you're mine."
Cupping his face, you made him look into your eyes, "Don't tell me you're not the same person. You're always my Sanji."
The relief was obvious in his sigh.
Sanji leaned forward timidly, capturing your lips with a nervousness that hadn't been present since the first time he kissed you many, many moons ago, "I love you."
"And I love you. Always."
You took his hand and pulled him to his feet, âLetâs get back to bed.â
He followed obediently.
Limbs entangled with yours, Sanji finally slept through the night.

I think there's something really beautiful and subtle in Luffy's lingering grief over Ace's death. It still seems difficult for him to talk about Ace at all, like getting the words out is physically painful. He immediately sobers when his brother's name is mentioned in Wano, but smiles so proudly when people share their fond stories of his kindness and generosity. And then he stands quietly and somewhat sadly by himself for a while, staring into the distance as he gets lost in his memories of Ace and his death.
Though his own grief continues to ache inside his heart, Luffy honors Ace and the person he was by committing to saving the little girl that Ace had bonded with.
Can you do the nightmare wedding scenario with Luffy, Sanji, and Ussop

A/N: Thank you for the request. I loved the past versions of this prompt so I was happy to return to it. Sadly I wasn't able to think of something unique for Sanji so left it to just Luffy and Usopp. It's my first time writing for Usopp so hopefully I got his character right and that you like what I came up with for this.

LUFFY
Love was a word Luffy knew a great deal about in all of its various meanings and depths. He loved freedom and adventure, discovering each new island and opportunity to explore like a restless electricity ran through his nerves. His love for food and fun was quite literally sating a deep hunger leaving him content and filled. The love he had for his brothers was deep and intense, sadly sometimes painful but it was a hurt he bore willingly and without complaint. His crew and friends brought out a love that left him feeling stronger, fierce, and determined to protect.Â
You were all those feelings wrapped into one amazing person that Luffy knew he couldnât and wouldnât be without. Being separated from you for two years and losing Ace had been the massive wake up call to his feelings for you. He truly didnât think he would ever have to endure that sharp twisting feeling of shock and pain when it came to you again. Oh how wrong he was because now here he stood looking at your smiling so brightly and staring at only Trafalgar Law with your entire attention raptly on the other Captain, your hand interwoven and anchored into his; refusing to let go.Â
On the one hand, seeing you smile made Luffy want to smile too but on the other hand, why did you have to be looking at his supposed ally like that? Robin had warned him that pirate alliances usually ended up in betrayal but this was a hundred times worse than what he ever could have imagined. Then it got worse when Luffy stared in horror as you and Law exchanged rings and vowed to be each otherâs spouse forever and complete the declaration with a kiss.Â
With a yell Luffy woke, launching himself out onto the floor. In his dream heâd tried to leap between you and Law before your lips could connect but he had been so tightly invested in it that his actions had carried through his subconscious. Groggily he rubbed his eyes and got to his feet blearily looking around the empty Crowâs Nest. The memory of the dream fresh in his mind, Luffy wasted no further time in racing down the mast and to the sleeping quarters.Â
The door slammed open loudly causing you to wake with a jolt, eyes barely opened and alarmed when you felt someone leap onto your bed and grip your shoulders. Instinctively you grabbed the personâs wrists and blinked through your tiredness to become even more confused to see Luffy staring at you intensely. âWh- whatâs⌠Luffy? Whatâs wrong?â
âAs your Captain youâre not allowed to marry Tra-guy ever!â His order did nothing to help bring you out of the heavy fog of sleep. You scrunched your face up in confusion, you recognised the words but the context of the order just didnât make sense.Â
âMarry Law?â You mumbled with a yawn. âWhatâdâyou mean?â
âI know heâs smart and whatever but this is your crew. You canât leave-â
âLuffy.â You stopped your Captain with a light squeeze of his hand and smiled at him sleepily. âIâm not leaving the crew, relax.â Your voice was soothing at it was a relief to hear you say you werenât leaving but still Luffy couldnât shake the uncomfortable twist in his stomach.Â
Feeling your hands over his helped with ridding him of the image of Lawâs hands over yours. Luffy took a breath and kept his gaze on you, heavily frowning at your lips, the image of Lawâs about to claim yours making him glare. Before you could ask what was wrong you blinked in surprise when Luffy kissed you. It wasn't the first time youâd kissed, your relationship with the Captain was one neither of you really thought to put a label on, just deciding to enjoy how things naturally progressed. This was the first time however that Luffyâs lips pressed against yours so insistently, like he was trying to prove something.
Given his confusing statement about you and Law marrying you could connect the dots now that youâd woken enough. With a smile you pulled back and lifted your hands away to wrap Luffy into a hug and lay back down on the bed. Your smile grew when Luffy adjusted his arms to hold you tightly, your body already feeling the pull to go back to sleep. As you smiled contently you tucked your head under Luffyâs chin, falling back to sleep to the sleepy mumbles of your Captain cursing out Law for being an idiot if he thought he could ever have you.
USOPP
âUsopp! I have to tell someone before I burst!â Your excited voice shot through his concentration as he sat working in his workshop. Immediately Usopp turned to smile at you, his own excitement mirroring yours. You were truly the only one that was capable of stealing his attention no matter what the situation. You slid to a stop in front of him, hands reaching out instinctively to take his into your hold, your excitement only growing with each second. âI canât believe this is happening!â
âWell come on, tell me already!â Usopp laughed trying to keep you concentrated on the mystery topic that he now couldnât wait to be part of.Â
âIâm getting married!â Your exclamation caused Usoppâs face to freeze in shock, his previous smile twitching into one of disbelief, thinking you were pulling a prank on him. How could you get married? He hadnât proposed to you yet. While youâd both been together for a while and he loved you, heâd been too much of a coward to say those three little but massive words to you. Mostly he told himself it was too soon, really though heâd convinced himself that if he did confess the full weight of his feelings to you, youâd crush him by saying you didnât feel the same.
âO-oh! Th-thatâsâŚgreat!â He forced out tightly, unwilling to see you upset for not taking your news well. âWh-whoâs the lucky guy?â
âThatâs the amazing thing!â You all but swooned as you thought about your betrothed. âHeâs a real hero and warrior! So brave and strong, youâll love him! Promise youâll come to the wedding, please Usopp?â Your request was spoken so sweet and earnestly that again, despite the painful punch to his heart Usopp refused to show it. Unable to say no he ground his teeth together before forcing himself to nod, flinching when you let out a cheer and threw your arms around him to hug him tightly, thanking him.
In the blink of an eye you were no longer hugging him and Usopp was no longer in the workshop. Instead he stood on the deck of the Sunny, hearing the rest of the crew laughing happily as they waited for the wedding to start. Usopp kept his head down, trying to avoid the reality of the situation for as long as he could. When your laughter sounded Usopp slowly looked up and let out a shriek of shock to see who your were marrying standing at the altar, arms folded tightly and face completely hidden by the all too familiar mask. âSogeking?!â He demanded in disbelief managing to stagger over to you, his head spinning at the development. How was this even possible? âYouâre marrying Sogeking?â
âOf course!â You beamed, oblivious to Usoppâs distress as you left Usoppâs side to approach his secret persona. âLook at him. Isnât he perfect? Thereâs no one else Iâd ever consider marrying. Only him.â
With a gasp Usopp woke and covered his eyes, slowly working on calming his breathing as he realised everything was a dream. Just a stupid dream. Sighing in relief he rolled his eyes at his own silly mind. Of course it was a dream. Then his mind began to stir up uncomfortable thoughts once more. Why were you with a coward like him? He wouldnât blame you for choosing someone else to marry. Just as he was about to spiral more, he jumped in surprise when you rolled over in your sleep, your arms tightening over his as your lay your head on his shoulder. As if sensing how tense he was, you stirred and woke with a small sleepy hum. âUsopp?â
âIâm okayâŚâ
âLiar.â You sleepily mumbled, pulling yourself closer lifting your head up to press a small kiss to his cheek. âBad dream?â
âYeahâŚâ Usopp sighed, moving to hold you close. You always could see through him. Swallowing hard, he began to think of the deeper meaning the dream must have had and cleared his throat. Bracing himself he blurted out. âI love you.â
âUsopp.â Usopp flinched and prepared himself for your rejection but it didnât come. Instead you sat up to face him fully, smiling happier than heâd ever seen you show before. âI love you too.â
âThank goodness! I thought youâd call me an idiot or somethingâŚâ He sighed with a nervous laugh. You smiled softly, shaking your head at your boyfriendâs timid nature. You knew he could be brave when he needed to be, it was just a shame he didnât have the same amount of faith in himself that you had in him. âAlso, you should know Iâm Sogeking. No one else. If anyone says they are, theyâre lying. Okay?â
You stared at Usopp in surprise. You and everyone on the crew- except for Luffy and Chopper- knew that Usopp was Sogeking. It was obvious but you didnât have the heart to disappoint him by telling him that so instead you slowly nodded. âThank you for trusting me with the truth. You really must love me to tell me that.â
âOf course I do!â Usopp declared, offering you a proud grin as you kissed his forehead and lay back down, allowing him to hold you close and sleep dreams better than his last one.
