Dating a dark academic:

If you have watched Pride and Prejudice (2005) and have been disappointed that you will never get to experience that kind of a courtship, well, you were wrong.

Unlimited oversized warm sweaters and blazers for you to borrow (steal) from their closet.

They write the BEST LETTERS. Expect long letters in dark ink and loopy handwriting, probably written on a coffee stained ancient piece of paper with heartfelt declarations of love to make you cry.

Dates at the museums and art galleries. (Stolen kisses in the restricted section.)

If you're also someone who loves to read, your dark academic will gift you loads of paperbacks with flowers pressed between the pages or a well loved copy of their favourite book with little notes scribbled in the margins (that's a gateway to their soul, keep it carefully).

Visiting gothic libraries together and roaming hand in hand while staring at the antique books with thick spines and reading together in the dimly lit corners.

They'll take you to nearby castles to watch the sunset and have a romantic little picnic.

You will act tired of them declaring their love for you by quoting Wordsworth or Keats or Wilde but you'll love it secretly.

Listening to soft classical music together with your hands wandering around or making out in the rain with them.

You can walk hand in hand in strange new streets to discover quaint little cafes but they'll always order a strongly brewed cup of tea or a tall mug of black coffee wherever they go.

They have a classy sense of fashion and though you tease them by calling their outfits pretentious, they are always the best dressed person in the room (but you won't ever admit that).

They'll give you little gifts (yes, exactly like 19th century's courting rituals) like chunky beautiful rings with a pretty gemstone, or an antique silver pendant, a vintage scarf from their favourite thrift shop or a beautiful piece of art they've made or a heartfelt poem they've composed for you.

They can appear to be broody and dark (Mr. Darcy-like) but don't worry they're just a big softie on the inside who'll melt as soon as you hug them and blush profusely when you suddenly kiss their cheek.

niche things I love about Indian culture

(Besides the awesome fashion, food, mythology, architecture, music, and philosophies)

-in Hindi, “ladies and gentlemen” is “goddesses and gentlemen” (देवियों और सज्जनो)

-how you measure age by how many monsoons you’ve seen (“he is of 10 monsoons”)

-good morning WhatsApp forwards. Yes, this is a controversial one. I just think it’s cute as hell

-how 2 Indians can each know like 4 languages but still not be able to communicate with each other because they don’t share a single common one

-men wearing lots of jewellery especially gold hoop earrings 👀👌🏽

-nose rings (I got mine when I was a kid WITH my parents’ approval)

-the fact that Indian English uses so many archaic words and terms. And also so many terms that sound like they’re from the year 2050 (like “biodata” for resume)

-“where should I put this?” “On my head.”

-the expression “sucking my blood” in Punjabi when someone is annoying you. “Stop sucking my blood,” “He’s really sucking my blood.” Also “He’s eating my brain” in Hindi is a good one too

-how shop owners serve you food and chai and how the men drape saris over themselves to model them for you

-impromptu poetry sessions (“वह क्या बात है!”)

-there’s a reason so many animes are inspired by Hinduism and Buddhism. The original spirit bombs and other magical energy weapons were in the mahabharat lol

-really off the wall units of measurement. Lakh makes perfect sense. Crore makes a bit of sense. But why is a mahakalpa 311,040,000,000,000 years. Why does an akshauhini consist of 21,870 chariots; 21,870 elephants; 65,610 horses and 109,350 infantry. That is so specific

-the fact that no one’s gonna top the party we’re gonna throw when the queen dies

I am honestly so supportive of young women and girls who don’t want to present themselves as sexual, whether they’re asexual, sex-repulsed, politically celibate, women who don’t want to feel or be sexy, or women who just don’t want to discuss it. I’m supportive whether this is something temporary or permanent, whatever the reason for it. If sex isn’t liberating for you, that’s great. There’s nothing wrong with that and I’m sorry you’re being sold the lie that you’re repressed and/or unfeminist.

This Is A Summary Of College Only Using Two Pictures; Expensive As Hell.

This is a summary of college only using two pictures; expensive as hell.

That’s my Sociology “book”. In fact what it is is a piece of paper with codes written on it to allow me to access an electronic version of a book. I was told by my professor that I could not buy any other paperback version, or use another code, so I was left with no option other than buying a piece of paper for over $200. Best part about all this is my professor wrote the books; there’s something hilariously sadistic about that. So I pretty much doled out $200 for a current edition of an online textbook that is no different than an older, paperback edition of the same book for $5; yeah, I checked. My mistake for listening to my professor.

This is why we download.

it’s so funny that I get attached to characters who are pathetic and clingy because irl if I get the slightest impression that someone else is more attached to me than I’d like I sprint in the opposite direction. I plan my schedule around avoiding them as much as possible. I’ll fake my death if I have to.
