This is canon 😭😭😭
Meet the stars of the Disney Plus adaptation of Percy Jackson!
Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase
Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson
Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood
I think the most radical thing the hunger games does is tell young people that the most revolutionary thing you can do is have unconditional love for humanity. Katniss throughout the entire series is guided by a deep sense of compassion for the people around her. It is what causes her to volunteer, to bury rue, to mercy kill cato, its why she tries to save peeta, why finnick telling her to remember who the real enemy is works, and even though her compassion for the larger world falters when peeta is kidnapped, it comes back when she visits hospitals and asks for mercy for other victors and ultimately, it is love and belief in a better humanity that makes her kill coin. Through it all, she maintains an unfaltering belief in the fundemental goodness of humanity, which is diametrically opposed to dr gaul's and snow's worldview. Peeta is even more unwaveringly compassionate
So the series tells young people that the most revolutionary thing you can be is compassionate. Let compassion drive your politics. Let yourself believe in the fundemental goodness of people. And i think that's deeply important in a world that touts the superiority of pure reason or logic, to allow yourself to be guided by something as emotional as compassion. Katniss everdeen tells us that your politics should be rooted in compassion in a world that thinks detatchment or cynicism is intelligence and i think thats v cool
Books that I would overthrow a moderate to large kingdom for a physical copy of:
Carmilla (Sheridan Le Fan): aka the lesbian vampire novel that predates dracula
Shapeshifters: a history (John B Kachuba)
Dante's inferno (I'm a sucker for dramatic ass poets screeching about hell and cursing their enemies with elaborate metaphors)
Declare (Tim Powers)
Macbeth (like I said, dramatic guys screeching and cursing their enemies)
The Castle of Otrando
The Silmarillion
Lord of the rings box set
Dracula
I fear my local libraries are quite bare when it comes to historical, gothic and occult texts. honk honk :( the local library has one singular book to do with witchcraft except its about Wicca and the sources = "just trust me bro" overall not a great book to consult. Completely rife with misinformation from my recollection.

"grandpa" "dont call him that" is going to be iconic, watch me be right.
"This is not Iraq or Afghanistan......this is a relatively civilized, relatively European city"- Charlie D'Agata
"These are not refugees from Syria. They are Christians and white" - NBC News, Kelly Cobiella
"It's really emotional for me because I see European people with blue eyes and blonde hair being killed" -David Sakvarelidez
Then Prince William of United Kingdom: "For our generation, it's very alien to see this in Europe. We're all right behind you."
We think that's where it stops but no the Prime minister of Bulgaria, Kiril Petkov Petkov comes out to say this wisdom “These are not the refugees we are used to… these people are Europeans, these people are intelligent, they are educated people.... This is not the refugee wave we have been used to, people we were not sure about their identity, people with unclear pasts, who could have been even terrorists…”
What the hell do they think they are doing??!!?!?!?
Going on the TV and saying that
Do civilized people say things like that?
Because the people in Asia, Africa and South America are dumb terrorists who lives in caves and are so used to bombs and dying, it's their daily life and a normal activity but IN EUROPE NOO these are human beings with loves and stories and dreams not like anywhere else.
War is not normal, shouldn't be normalized in other countries just because they're not European white, blonde with blue eyes.
Wars in Asia and the Middle East and Africa And South America are not normal. Wars on black, brown, Asians are not normal.
Kids being killed because of politics is not normal.
Yes, we feel sorry for Ukraine because innocent people are dying, but the hypocrisy that is shown on the news is maddening and disgusting.
Kashmir, Uighur, Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and anywhere else where the media doesn't cover.
Taylor announcing a new song???? Rick announcing Grover and Annabeth castings???? girlies it's time to go INSANE <3
do you have any ideas about why so many students are struggling with literacy now? I know that illiteracy and reading comprehension have been issues for years and most americans read at like a 5th grade reading level but I’m curious why it seems to be worse now (pandemic? no child left behind?)
It is everything. There’s not one answer. I could talk about this forever so instead I set a five minute timer on my phone and wrote a list of as many of the many things that are causing this on a systemic level that I could think of:
It’s parents not reading with their kids (a privilege, but some parents have that privilege to be able to do this and don’t.)
It’s youtube from birth and never being bored.
It’s phasing out phonics for sight words (memorizing without understanding sounds or meaning) in elementary schools in the early aughts.
It’s defunding public libraries that do all the community and youth outreach.
It’s NCLB and mandating standardized tests which center reading short passages as opposed to longform texts so students don’t build up the endurance or comprehension skills.
It’s NCLB preventing schools from holding students back if they lack the literacy skills to move onto the next grade because they can’t be left behind so they’re passed on.
It’s the chronic underfunding of ESL and Special Ed programs for students who need extra literacy support.
It’s the cultural devaluing of the humanities in favor of stem and business because those make more money which leads to a lot of students to completely disregard reading and writing.
It’s the learning loss from covid.
It’s covid trauma manifesting in a lot of students as learned helplessness, or an inability to “figure things out” or push through adversity to complete challenging tasks independently, especially reading difficult texts.
It’s covid normalizing cheating and copying.
It’s increasing phone use.
It’s damage to attention span exacerbated by increased phone use that leaves you without an ability to sit and be bored ever without 2-3 forms of constant stimulation.
It’s shortform video becoming the predominant form of social media content as opposed to anything text-based.
It’s starting to also be generative AI.
It’s the book bans.
what did I miss.
the fireworks that were lighting luke’s face up in more and more alarming shades of red as his confrontation with percy in the woods continued to build up. the fireworks turning a cold, calculating blue to show him adapting to the new revelation and switching up his words to try and manipulate percy with an approach that shows care for percy’s wellbeing and bringing back the same points made in the flashback between the two earlier in the episode
this so poetic cinema
you know whats antisemitic? those vile freaks in the israeli government desperately trying to associate segregation and genocide with judaism while abusing the collective trauma of the holocaust to guilt people into supporting their crimes and calling pro-palestinian jews "traitors". ive been listening to many jewish voices these past few days, rabbis, orthodox jews, jewish scholars and they dont support the hundreds of israeli war crimes, many dont even acknowledge the state of israels existence in the first place.
judaism is a beautiful religion. it is not culpable for the atrocities israel is doing in its name. neither are random jewish people, many of which have never even stepped foot in the occupied land, who are now being harassed for it. if you play into this idea, you are spreading israels zionist propaganda and doing them a favour.
