Watching AoT with my mom Part 3

Okay okay so we finally reached the last episode and after she's ranted about how damn annoying Gabi is for like 15 minutes (lmao btw) I told her there were some extra episodes about Levi if she was interested, because she's been talking about him a LOT since Erwin last showed up. Here's the conversation that followed:

her: "Leroy? Ah, no, LEVI? Oh! YES! My favourite!!"

me: "I thought you liked Erwin the most?"

her: "Erwi- is- is he the? The titan boy? The annoying one?"

me: "lmao no that's Eren. I mean the scouts commander...?"

her: "Oh, yeah. He's good. I want the Leroy episode. I like him more. Him and Mikasa."

(and yes, she pronounces Mikasa exactly like the dudes from A Slap on Titan I can't even)

So I‘m rewatching good omens with my mom and I‘m hollering because I just imagined the story of season 1 from Shadwell‘s point of view.

Imagine you scam a dude who you think is mafia into paying your rent for sixty years, to the point where the mafia mans son takes over his place as your sponsor. Parallel to that you convince some naïve old bookseller who you‘re pretty sure is gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide to also send you money every month under the guise of providing him with an army. (What in gods name would the pansy need an army for? Who cares, at least he pays amiright). This carries on for decades. Those two couldn’t be more different people. Until one day you walk in on the southern pansy performing what can only be described as a satanic ritual and promptly exorcise him with nothing but your index finger, then return to your landlady (?) who you‘ve been insulting despite clearly being quite fond of her for the better part of your adult years.

Said woman then suddenly becomes possessed by the gay demon you JUST exorcised with your finger, only it turns out he‘s actually a good guy and while still trying to come to terms with the fact that your finger is capable of expelling demons, the world is ending and the woman of your heart is possessed by an angel, said angel promptly orders you to rush to Tadfield on a flying moped to kill an 11 year old boy with nipples all over using a century old cannon that you cannot possibly be sure actually works.

And then, when the day couldn‘t possibly get any weirder, your other sponsor - the scary mafia dude - shows up IN A BURNING CAR (which admittedly isn’t even the weirdest thing that happened today) and isn‘t only acquainted with the gay bookseller but seems to be unmistakenly, hopelessly, ready-to-jump-him-at-any-moment, head over heals in love with him and now you have to third wheel the mafia dude and his boyfriend who‘s currently stuck in your future wife‘s body, only to witness the boy you were meant to kill make up a whole ass new body for the gay angel out of thin air, then tell off his dad - who seems to be satan in carnate - then get told off by his adoptive dad who has about as much of a clue as to what happened as you do. Also your new recruit dips to a small english village because he fell in love with a witch, despite you telling him to set them on fire on sight.

Like if he hadn‘t been utterly mad before, I‘m sure Shadwell would‘ve been at the very least institutionalised after all this.

I felt the same way when I finally watched Merlin a couple of months ago. I‘d been going through the worst four years of my life at the time but somehow this show woke something up inside of me that I thought I had lost many years ago. For the first time in possibly a decade I felt alive again, felt like myself! I really hold it dear to my heart and I‘m so very glad that the fandom is still this active and thriving because whenever I‘m relapsing to my old bad habits and mindsets I can pick up some fanfic or look at the amazing fanarts and feel a little better almost instantly.

Merlin is the first show I've cried over in a while. I'll see deeply profound posts abt it and just tear up like a mfer and it's exhilarating. I hate how much it makes me feel (lie) and I haven't felt so alive in at least a year. Merthur saved my life probably. :)

but when i first found merlin, i was 17, 18 years old. i was in a really pivotal time in my life and i was... so confident. so ready to take on the world. and these characters, they helped me. they were ready to take on the world, too, and i was ready to fight alongside them.

we drifted away, as we do. and i had... a really traumatic early 20s. one that made me lose myself. i no longer wanted to fight, to believe, to hope. survival was hard enough.

finding merlin again?

i feel like i am waking her up again. the person i was when i was ready to fight for what i believed in. i now want to pursue my lifelong dreams for the first time in years. i am passionate again. i am waking up.

merlin is an essential part of my life, and I am so glad to have him, and arthur, and gwen, and the knights, and Morgana, and all of you along with me.

So I actually first planned to write a Kagehina fanfic and needed a picture for it. And that’s how this came to be. (I never wrote that fanfic btw - I got lazy lmao)

But I kinda tried out another drawing style (mainly with the coloring) and I actually like how it turned out. (I know I know, the background and Kags hand are terrible but LET ME DREAM) 

aight I know I usually only post art but I‘m like super duper happy rn because I got a free pizza because the restaurant accidentally made one too many and it‘s the greatest thing that‘s happend to me in 2020 so far lmao

I just want to say it‘s so sweet how many of you gave me a warm welcome to the merlin fandom! Thank you so much guys, that‘s exactly the wholesome content i came here for (and I‘ll defo hit some of y‘all up for fic recs at some point lmao)

Discovering a fandom long after its original content released somehow feels like discovering an old religion believed to be dead, yet still thriving.

It's like an adventure.

Like when I started getting into Lord of the rings a year ago, or when I finished Merlin mere days ago I was bitter about not discovering them sooner, because I thought I'd missed the fandoms highs and everything left today would be crums of what it used to be, since their last content aired literally almost decades ago.

Yet when I look up fanfiction, fanarts or just the tags on tumblr I find their fandoms to be as alive the day the show finished.

It honestly feels like the closest I'll ever get to discovering a fantastical place like Atlantis or Kong Island or something like that and I think that's beautiful

Just walked in on my mom watching Merlin for the first time and was pumped she gave it a shot only for her to tell me she fast forwarded through some episodes because she just wants to see how it ends.

Now I‘ve got to suffer through the last two episodes with her CONSTANTLY asking questions about the plot because she was too lazy to actually watch it.
