The series Ahsoka is coming out soon, and in light of the recent comments by Ashley Eckstein...

... I figured I'd also point out that people hated Ahsoka.

Every complaint you've heard about Rey? It had been hurled at Ahsoka about 7 years prior.

“Oh, she’s fighting Grievous and she’s only, like 13?! That’s so OP!”

“She feels like a Mary Sue written for a prequel based fan fiction.”

“Oh, she disobeyed an order from Yularen on Ryloth?! She’s so snippy!”

“Ugh, I hate her and her stupid voice!”

“She’s always pointing out stuff other characters have missed, like she’s so perfect! She's a Mary Sue with an annoying voice and personality.”

And honestly? I remember that period. People despised Ahsoka (and sometimes voiced anger towards Ashley Eckstein too), just like they hated Hayden Christensen, and most Prequel-related content.

But guess what? They weren't the target audience. Said Eckstein in her 2018 book It's Your Universe:

“Ahsoka’s arrival on the scene was met with mixed reactions. She had a big personality and was very snippy. [...] She talked back to Anakin, and some even called her bratty. Critics didn’t quite know what to think, but kids loved her. Finally, girls had another character besides Leia and Padmé to play on the playground — and now there was a lightsaber in their hands.”

They didn't "fix" Ahsoka, as you'll see on some click-baity YouTube thumbnails.

She had a fucking character arc. There was nothing to fix.

The whole point of her character is that she starts out as immature and petulant as Anakin is in Episode II. This forces Anakin himself to grow up, so he can better take care of her.

Eventually, they both mature together... and at some point, Ahsoka surpasses Anakin by learning and implementing the Jedi teachings, while Anakin remains stuck on that first part (no thanks to Palpatine).

Same thing goes for Reva. The character has a goddamn arc.

I'm all for putting a "save the cat" moment to make these characters more likeable (and even when they do, like they did with Rey, then somehow the problem becomes that they're too likeable), but at the same time, I think parts of the fandom should wait and see before prematurely hating on a character (who almost always "just happens" to be female, weird!) to see what story is being told.

I highly recommend trying to check on him in-person if you can; when I've gotten depressed and mentally unwell I usually self isolate + avoid interaction as much as possible and this could last for days or weeks. This is basically the opposite of what you actually need in that state. I assume the same is happening here. Some people might say it's disrespectful or whatever idk idc like people who are not doing well mentally need help and support; checking in on someone isn't the same as destroying boundaries.

So when your friend doesn't respond to 2 texts sent on 2 different days, when is a reasonable time to assume they either got a new phone number or they don't want to talk to you.

Ok so confession as a kid I used to try to run like Sara Steele. Like I'd run with my fists waving in front of me like I was holding swords like her.

just a dude I drew really quickly for a rp so his design isn't very original lol. if you know me he looks pretty similar to other characters I made but oh well

so i've got family in nyc and i visit every so often and i like to just wander around the city. so i go to FAO Schwarz the big toy store just to look around right when the new star wars movie was coming out (i don't remember which one but one of the new sequel ones that wasn't rogue one) and just as you would expect, there are a million star wars toys but my eye catches on one particular set of shelves where they have these little dolls

and there are a few general huxes and a few reys and a few finns but then there's a shelf and a half of LOBOT (seen above).

Now, if you didn't grow up with an unhealthy obsession of original trilogy star wars lore between the ages of 12-14 you might not understand who this figure is. he is this guy

and gets flashed once on screen with this shot as a kind of jumpscare which I think was kind of mean to the actor that they just used his face with a head massager as a jumpscare. anyway, i'm getting carried away, but the point is he only shows up in the background of a few moments in the movie after that. in the credits he is even listed as "lando's aide" and he acquired the name lobot because he ended up having no lines in the movie and people suggested that he was lobotomized and his brain was replaced with those metal things seen above. anyway, the fandom went wild with it and came up with all kinds of stories but none of this explains why, in one of the most famous toy stores in the usa, in the middle of a star wars craze, i found nearly 200 lobot dolls on racks and only a handful of other star wars characters. i tried explaining how weird this is to my partners and family members and friends and everyone just looks at me with this blank robotic stare.

now, i just occasionally spend a moment or two every day thinking about whoever it was that decided to overproduce an insane quantity of lobot toys and what they're up to these days
