Sometimes I see a photo like this one and think, “Maybe we’re playing too small. It isn’t McLennon OR Starrison. It’s yes, and. Maybe the Beatles… is just two gay couples.” 🤣
ohhhh judas betrayed jesus with a kiss. ok i’ll do u one better. john lennon and paul mccartney morphed into one horrible tragic being that transformed western culture as we know it. paul has just been nominated for a grammy for a song that john wrote before he was murdered over forty years ago. john wanted a divorce and paul wanted to kill himself. they grew up together. they turned into each other. they weren’t gay they were something much much worse and whatever it was still lives and breathes in practically every song you’ve ever listened to. also they masturbated in the same room once or twice
The Beatles' first US concert. Washington DC, 11 February 1964. Photographed by Rowland Scherman.
“John is kinda like a constant … always there in my being … in my soul, so I always think of him”.
"I'm often thinking of him. I dream of him".
"I soon came to love his beery old breath. And I loved John."
"Delicious boy, delicious broth of a boy".
"l would just sit around and hug him forever, because that’s the depth of my feeling for him."
"There was a guy up on the platform with curly, blondish hair, wearing a checked shirt – looking pretty good and quite fashionable. He had his glasses off, so he looked really suave."
"John had beautiful hands"
"I do have a connection with John and I don’t expect it to go even though we are separated by death. It’s just something I will always feel."
"If I'm going to see a face in a painting, it's highly likely to be his"
"John was always to the left or to the right of me, so I never got to sort of see him perform so much. Except in the film. And there he is in massive closeup. I can study everything about him.”
"I would often sketch John when we worked together, often without him knowing it. It was so easy doing John because he had glasses, those sideboards –or sideburns – and that long, aquiline nose.”
"I recently bought a lot of drawings and writings by John. I have them on my wall so I get to look at them all the time."
"Even though John’s dead, I don’t feel like we’re ever going to be apart. I think we’re a part of each other’s lives, we’re a part of each other’s karma."
I literally cannot with how John & Paul look at each other. No wonder George is depressed -- I would be too!
Take a sad song, and make it better (@javelinbk). Excellent fix-it. “What would have happened if John had taken up Paul’s offer to come to the UK in 1980?” There’s also a Christmas follow-up and a sweet, fluffy extra!
(Just Like) Starting Over (dollylux). 8 December 1980, and John and Paul are writing together. The magic is still there.
Would you still love me if I were a worm? (@unchaineddaisychain). Old McLennon discuss hypotheticals. In bed. This is how it should have been!
Here Today (HerSpecialAgent005). John and Paul got together in the 1970’s, and live in Scotland. In December 1980, they invite friends and family for a cozy dinner—but Paul feels anxious for no reason he can explain…
Grow Old with Me (@inherownwr1te). Old McLennon on the Scottish farm, a broken arm, taking care of each other. Old love at its finest!
oh darling, pardon me (can you help me remember?) (@inherownwr1te; set in the same ‘verse as “Grow Old With Me”): Paul is nervous about the release of his and John’s next album. John soothes him with a tried-and-true method…by combing his legs. Seeing these two being sweet and bantering together is good for the soul.
Take the shape my body makes (backbenttulips). Mid 1980s. Married McLennon find themselves in a sex shop, watch Beatle porn, and fuck. Then they shop at Williams Sonoma. Pure Utopian bliss.
Having Coffee (dornfelder). “In a world where Mark Chapman doesn’t shoot John Lennon, the Beatles reunite in 1982. In 1983, John and Paul are outed by the tabloid press. It’s 2020, and two journalists are on their way to meet them in their home in Central London.” Interview/Article fic that nails the reporting voice and John and Paul’s voices perfectly.
everything that dies someday comes back (@backbenttulips). 2008. Paul is divorcing Heather; John is out as bi. After a lifetime of being friends and loving others, they are free to declare their love. I’m enjoying this one, because it honors the other relationships in both of their lives, while also leaving space for the lifelong big love they never lost: each other.
they’re insane
Next to the lyrics from ‘I’ll Get You’ is a note from Mimi to John, telling him she is going out for an hour : which begs the question; why is this note here? Let me rephrase; why has Paul included a note that tells us that that a young John and Paul had the house to themselves for an hour? And why, of all the media Paul could have chosen, is this accompanying a teenage declaration of love, which has, Paul helpfully tells us ‘some schoolboy humour’ about ‘I’ll get you in the end’ . (Sorry, I can’t sense his tone. Is he talking about trying to get a chaste kiss or bum sex)
Ok now I have more questions; why has Paul held onto this note for 60 years.. it’s not even a memento of his family. There’s no scribbled lyrics on the other page. The ‘explanation’ of the lyrics talk about Mimi and Mendips, but surely he has something better than *this* to illustrate her character?
I mean… it’s almost like, maybe, I don’t know, something happened for the first time during the time that they had the house to themselves , and Paul being the sentimental and horny romantic he is, has decided to keep this as a memento, and it works perfectly next to a song about chaste kisses. Or ahem, something something getting your end away.
Side note: John sings the beginning of this to Paul in Get Back! ‘Imagine I’m in love with you/it’s easy cause I know’
Pt.7
“When we sang together,” Lennon told Mintz in one of their conversations, “Paul and I would share the same microphone. I’d be close enough to kiss him. Back then, I didn’t wear me specs onstage – Brian Epstein said they made me look old. So we’d be playing these concerts, in front of thousands of people, but the only thing I could see was Paul’s face. He was always there next to me – I could always feel his presence. It’s what I remember most about those concerts.”
