When people ask me what my hobbies and talents are but I can't say that I've developed a very acute sense at seeing the similarities in between siblings and between their parents bcs I never had siblings so it always seemed like such an abstract idea to me, and that my hobby as a five year old was to stare at random families on the bus, but that's weird and very much probably not normal.

some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

I love when Simon tells jace that he treats Alec like a lap dog. because it’s honestly the truth. Jace expects Alec to drop everything and help him. he doesn’t care about Alec and Izzy who have been his family and friends for years. it’s all clary clary clary. Jace doesn’t even think about how this affects Alec or cares that his family is in trouble for all the unapproved missions on behalf of clary.

no wonder Alec doesn’t trust her. she comes out of nowhere, demanding this and that as if she owns the place. running missions that could get everyone killed. doesn’t understand that the mortal cup literally affects everyone, not just her.

Jace literally throws Alec to the side all for a girl he met five seconds ago because “they’re meant to be together”. Alec deserved so much better than what jace gave him. Jace really expected Alec to not have any feelings and do whatever he wanted him to do. it’s probable proof when he says “Alec will be here.”

when Meliorn refuses to tell Alec where the Fair Folk are keeping the hostages, including Magnus, and it does not matter anyway because Meliorn is capable of lying, and Alec does not waver for a second; he simply says: "die, then, liar," and shoots an arrow through his chest. when Jace won't let anyone come along to Edom but Alec convinces him because "go without me, and you disrespect that this is my battle too."

and I think about Alec's image throughout the series as that of a protector, someone who supports at the sidelines but won't venture into the centre. he reserves that spot for Jace or Izzy, anyone else but himself. and he deserves credit for that in and of itself; it's an important place to be, one that is often overlooked: never quite in the spotlight, but always making sure to be looking directly at it.

but where Magnus is concernedー he absolutely steps the fuck up. Alec is unique in that he doesn't tolerate any bullshit, he doesn't prolong any conversations or fights; he won't listen to long self-serving monologues, won't deal with unnecessary theatrics, won't explain himself to stall time: he deals with things fast, cleanly, effectively. his arc is one of my favourites.
