While I may enjoy a few ships that are considered problematic and some fictional stories that have reactionary elements, I have lost a lot of respect for self identified proshippers in the wake of many white, and some POC liberal, fandom blogs openly gloating about preferring to donate to AO3 over gofundme. Even aside from Palestinians who these liberals view as all scammers, people set up gofundmes to escape abusive homes or conservative communities, to put food on the table or aid medical expenses. If you think that marginalized people who ask for money deserve to suffer because they didn’t support Copmala btw, you are human garbage and have no understanding of true solidarity.

I’m going to be very blunt with this. Asking people to spare even a dollar for those in need does not make someone an “anti” with “main character syndrome”. It’s fine to enjoy fanfiction and fandom but if you think those hobbies are more important than human lives and that anyone who calls you out is just being entitled, then you need to rethink your priorities. Being asked to have a bare minimum of decency should not make you uncomfortable and being uncomfortable is not inherently bad because some things should make you question your beliefs or your actions.

It’s the same reason leftists ask people to read theory and watch more mature or nuanced media than just kids shows. Not because we hate autistic people with special interests but because even genuinely good progressive children’s media can only tackle social/political issues on a base level. Again, it’s fine to have hyperfixations or participate in fandom but there’s a line. The lives of real people are always more important than your favorite stories, whether it’s abandoning the wizard books for solidarity with trans women or sparing some money for gofundme and listening as opposed to dismissing them all as scams so you can sleep at night.

I contemplate the happy faces of people around me here in Ireland and reminisce about the happy normal life my family and I had before the war. A life that turned into a distant memory for us and was replaced by an unending series of horrible nightmares.

Unlike my family in Gaza, people here have access to drinking water, all types of food, electricity, and a roof over their heads. Above all, they are safe, and I cannot help but wonder if they genuinely do appreciate these blessings in their lives enough.

People seem relaxed and laughing wholeheartedly around me in Ireland. I wish I could laugh too, but I am crushed way beyond recovery on the inside. I was evacuated by my Irish college after five months of living the horrors of war in Gaza. I hope you will never know what it feels like to live in constant fear and worry and be horrified by the most sickening and scary nightmares every single night while you are far away from your family in such circumstances.

When did my people in Gaza cease to be human beings worthy and deserving of a normal life? Has it become normal now for my family in Gaza to be starved and killed while the whole world is watching the genocide? If that is the case, then you will have to excuse me if I seek every avenue to bring them to Ireland and start a new normal life like all people here around me.

I was assured by the Irish Reugee Council (IRC) and lawyers in Ireland that there is hope I can reunite with my family in Ireland. In difficult times, it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For me and my family, you are literally our light and hope for a better life.

Black fans in fandom: Listen, we really don't want to see fanart and fanfics of our beloved Black characters being cucked, mutilated, tortured, dehumanised, and sidelined, because it's legitimately detrimental to our community. It tolerates racism further; we all want you guys to stop. Many of you are incredibly microaggressive, so please hold yourselves accountable for that.

Half of Non-Black fans (who are ironically pro-fic, and anti-harassment despite the fact it goes against their principles): Are you guys saying fandom shouldn't write and draw taboo themes? I'm sorry for the anti-Blackness you experience daily, but this is what fiction is about; I don't want to acknowledge the racism in our spaces because it challenges us. It evokes our guilt that we haven't expanded our idea of a "safe space" for your community because we're exhaustingly race-blind. I mean, it doesn't mean I'm racist, though!
