Hi!! Hope you're doing well and healthy!! <3 do you know how to strengthen a relationship with a god/goddess? Or have any tips? I'm practicing bhakti yoga and I want to see the deities I worship as my best friends but idk how to do it right. Thanks in advance! 💙✨

What I generally recommend:

1. Do art for them (you don't have to be a super good artist, hell even stick figures work here)

2. Write poems or short stories featuring them

3. Pray to them

4. Dedicate activities to them (showering, eating, meditation, etc.)

5. Vocalizing (even if it's just sounds coming out of your throat, no specific syllabals or anything like that)

6. Wear an accessory thatyou dedicate towards them (I had some skull beads that I wore for Kali for an example)

7. Read books dedicated to them.

cultural appropriation in ATLA (hinduism edition)

i’m sure there’s already a ton of posts about this, but whatever, i’m still making one idc.

ATLA’s cultural appropriation, everyone knows about it, the white people don’t speak about it, and the asian and indigenous people get ignored. we know the cycle. but i wanted to come here and highlight some of the most prominent examples of ATLA abusing hinduism, as i am kinda sorta hindu (i was raised in a hindu household, i go to chinmaya mission, that kinda shit). i might forget some things so keep that in mind.

this is gonna be divided into 3 main sections, since there are different ways that they disrespect hinduism that i don’t wanna lump together.

and i’d say i know a lot about hinduism but that doesn’t make me an expert, obviously, so if other hindus have anything to add and/or correct then please do !! and if anyone else wants to share how their cultures were appropriated then please do that as well !!

so let’s get started shall we?

i know that “don’t harass people for being weird, they might be autistic!” is a fairly popular take on here. but as a Certified Autist, i’d like to add that harassing allistic and/or neurotypical people for being weird is also bad, and should not be done

and before you come in with “yeah, you never know who is and isn’t autistic, and you shouldn’t force people to out themselves!” i want to say two things: one, i agree. and two, even if you could magically avoid ever harassing a single autistic person, it still wouldn’t be okay to go after NTs for being weird. they’re people, janice. they’re allowed to be really invested in naruto

My hot take is that actually food allergies are a disability and more people need to realize that. The amount of research people with food allergies have to do when they want to go visit places but arent sure if they’ll have access to any food there is insane. Allergy friendly food is almost ALWAYS incredibly expensive in stores bc of all those fucking fad diets that like yoga instructors and middle age soccer moms make popular. And on top of the price, it is so hard to FIND! Almost evrry grocery store ive been to has a tiny ass allergy section that is almost always near empty. Plus what about people who don’t have the money to pay 10$ for a loaf of bread? You go to starbucks and non-dairy milks are like 70 cents extra? People are definitely out there buying and eating stuff that is destroying their digestive systems because they have no other choice. I am begging people to stop pretending that catering to people’s food allergies is elitist and not worth is. We need to make these options openly available.

This Is A Form Of Permaculture Known As Hugelkultur. The Main Idea Behind This Method Is To Bury Logs,

This is a form of permaculture known as hugelkultur. The main idea behind this method is to bury logs, twigs, sticks, leaves, and other organic matter in dirt and/or manure. The plants grown on these mounds will keep the soil together and penetrate that organic matter. As time goes on, the rotting matter time-released nutrients into the soil and creates heat. This makes it so that you don't have to bother with artificial fertilization every year. This mimics the way plants grow in the forest for your own benefit. There are a myriad of ways to implement hugelkultur in your homestead so go crazy with it.

With hugelkultur there is no more worrying about tilling, field rotation, razing crops, fertilization, or irrigation. It's worth noting that this doesn't work well with certain plants because it generates an enormous amount of nitrogen that can be too much at times. But a very good method.

The more things change, the more they stay the exact same. Abolish the plantation that is Amerikka

I will keep on saying this: If the mass deportations of Black and Brown people was considered racist under Trump, it doesn’t magically stop being racist just because a Democrat™ is doing it now. The silence from “allies” who were screaming bloody murder about immigration abuses under Trump is as deafening as it is hypocritical.

And I will keep saying this too: Abolish ICE. ICE is beyond “reforming.” And prosecute ICE and Border Patrol agents who commit human rights abuses.

Four case studies of Land Back in action
From land trusts to mushroom permitting, here are some examples of what Land Back looks like on the ground

Whenever I publicly talk about Land Back, someone will inevitably ask me the same question: “What does Land Back really mean?”

More often than not, I will answer with something short like, “it means give the land back.” As to-the-point as that answer is, I know it isn’t the answer they are necessarily looking for. The concept of Land Back, particularly for many non-Indigenous folks, can seem confusing and abstract. People want to know what is being done and what they can do to help the movement.

While it is only in the past couple of years that Land Back has entered national dialogues, Indigenous people have always found ways to assert their jurisdiction despite their displacement and forced alienation from the land. What’s more, some non-Indigenous people have acted as accomplices in the Land Back movement – finding ways to pay reparations and subvert the systems of oppression that have often benefited them, in the spirit of Land Back.

This piece explores four case studies to show concrete ways that Land Back is taking place on the ground. Hopefully these examples can provide some clarity about what Land Back means and looks like, perhaps functioning as a starting point for non-Indigenous people to join the Land Back movement and begin reconciling their relationship to these lands.

A technique for planting on hills. I'm sure there are many terms and traditions for this. If you're into permacture, you might recognize it as a sort of mini-swale. Basically, it serves as a way to help plants get established on hillsides, when you don't or can't terrace them.

The idea is that you plant in a little pocket, such that the plant is a little more sheltered & such that whatever rain falls on or up-hill of the plant is captured so that it sinks in rather than contributing to runoff.

In this particular case, one of my clients has a bald patch on a hill side that they don't want to invest any money in, because they don't think anything can grow there. Thus, I have been slowly populating it with divisions and transplants from other parts of their yard, with permission, and am slowly changing their mind.

The soil is not in particularly great shape, because it's a very steep hill, and a dog has been using it for a pathway. So it's steep, bare of any mulch or plant life, compacted, and the soil is poor in organic matter. A lovely challenge, no?

Today I was deadheading & thinning their rose campion, a tough little plant that is drought tolerant and can grow in very poor soil. Here's the first one I planted (and you can see why I included the diagram, it is a bit hard to tell what's going on:

On the left is an overhead view, right is a side-on view. Now, see what happens when you add water:

It pools at the base of the plant, and then slowly soaks in. Ideally, I'd have a nutritive mulch to add on top, but alas. These are tough little guys, and now when the rains come, they'll actually get watered instead of all that water washing down hill.
