We need a digital archive of LGBTQ+ works of art, science, and every other conceivable work we can share between each other because we are beyond the genocide warning level in most countries in the west and they're already trying to purge us from libraries.
if we want to get technical there is also the ice queendom anime spinoff which, while not fully canon, is canon compliant (as in it doesn’t technically contradict official canon material, and thus could theoretically have occurred within the canon) and that adapts volumes one and two before adding extra material between volumes two and three, slotting in alongside the beacon arc chronologically, but watchable whenever you want considering the non-canon status
Hey question, you like rwby right? I know there’s books and stuff to read separately from the main show, but what’s the timeline?
Yeah I love RWBY! (don’t get me started on my pre-packaged rants I have about just everything)
So we have the main 9 volumes that you’re gonna wanna watch ahead of everything else, BUT the books, movies, and short stories take place in between so here’s a list of CHRONOLOGICAL order
World of Remnant short episodes, all expositional episodes about the world
Roman Holiday spin off book
Volume One
Volume Two
Volume Three
RWBY anthology manga series
RWBY Chibi comedy series
Volume Four
After the Fall spin off book
DC comics
Volume Five
Before the Dawn spin off book
More DC comics
Volume Six
Volume Seven
RWBY/Justice League movie number one (not canon)
Volume Eight
Volume Nine
RWBY/Justice League movie number two (not canon)
Now, if I’ve missed anything or something’s out of order, someone please correct me 😭
NOTE: the World of Remnant short episodes were released alongside volumes 2, 3, and 4 and could also be considered part of those volumes on the timeline
NOTE: the anthology series takes place during volumes 1, 2, and 3 and could also be considered part of those volumes on the timeline
EDIT NOTE: I forgot about the DC comics 😭 thank you for reminding me! I haven’t actually read them, so I’m not sure what they’re about entirely nor who they feature, but this is my reminder to go actually check them out lmao
But ultimately, the order I think you should consume the series in??
Volume one
Volume two (and watching World of Remnant as you go)
Volume three (and watching WoR as you go)
RWBY Chibi to cheer yourself up
Volume four (and watching WoR as you go)
After the Fall
Volume five
Volume six
Before the Dawn
Volume seven
Volume eight
Roman Holiday
Volume nine
and sprinkle in the Justice League movies/anthology manga if you wanna

Reblog if its ok to spam you with boops
i mean the soul permeability explanation makes sense and it’s funny, however i would like to present some other alternatives:
John definitely read, and maybe wrote fanfic prior to the whole god thing, and I wouldn’t put it past him to incorporate fanfic tropes as part of the mythos/scripture around himself
gideons porn mags probably used similar tropes as like setup material for the sexy scenes, and there is a nonzero chance harrow has read some of them
my personal favorite - the noniad is essentially like a several hundred thousand word fanfic imo, and we know from htn that harrow has read enough to quote long sections from memory, so maybe she got her fanfic trope knowledge from ortus
So I like kind of mentioned this in a previous post but like. It’s weird?? Right?? That when Harrow re-constructs the bubble over and over again at the start of HtN Act V she does 1) role-reversal AU 2) Arranged marriage AU 3) Coffee shop AU. Because those are FANFIC TROPES. (The arranged marriage AU being especially unhinged to me because she doesn’t even know John is Gideon’s dad at that point!! Her brain had to come up with “what if Gideon were royalty omg??” ON ITS OWN.) And like the fanfic-ness always was insane bc of course yeah that makes sense from a Doylist perspective, ie, Taz Muir’s an author notable for her inclusion of internet humor and culture, and she has personal experience with fanfic. But it didn’t make sense on a Watsonian level because sure, Harrow’s clearly a Romantic, but this isn’t a genre language that I think Harrow naturally speaks. Harrow doesn’t read smutty romance novels!!! She’s a repressed little nunlet obsessed with bones, her only options of sexual interest in her adolescence being 1) GIDEON 2) a corpse she views as holy and sacred— no really safe options for exploratory crushes or sexual experimentation here. So how is she thinking in fic/romance tropes? Either A) Harrow is significantly less repressed than everything I’ve ever read about her would lead me to understand, B) fic tropes are so transcendental that the agonized, wounded, thrice-haunted mind of Harrowhark Nonagesimus could, in its death throes, find itself in this specific genre of text she has no personal reference for, or C) according to the Sex Pal Theory of Permeability, Harrow has gained an understanding of romance tropes via soul osmosis, from Gideon/Alecto/Wake/Palamedes during the bubble visit???, and that explains why she dreams in fanfiction. I’m going with option C. Thank you Unwanted Guest for solving this little mystery for me 🙏🙏🙏
Out of curiosity rb and put in the tags how many fics come up when you type your last name into ao3. Apparently even though my last name is uncommon there's like 500
Idea:
okay so i just finished Plain Bad Heroines, and i had an idea for a movie adaptation of it that’s incredibly infeasible, but would be the weirdest most layered meta shit ever (spoilers for the book under the cut)
okay so i think the way to go about an adaptation for maximum chaos/confusion would be to adapt Merritt’s novel she writes about the production of the Happenings at Brookhants movie, because now you’re adapting a fake novel made about a parody of a fake movie (bc she changed the names for plausible deniability) which itself was a meta movie about the filming of a cursed movie, all of which is contained within the pages of an actual fiction novel. so now you have a movie about a movie which is actually two separate movies which are going to be stitched together into one movie, none of which is real. then to make it extra confusing and meta, the end credits pan out to reveal all of this movie you just watched was playing in a theater, empty except for three girls sharing a bucket of popcorn. when the lights in the theater come on, you see that they look suspiciously similar to the three main protagonists of the movie you just watched.
something something if i had a nickel for every time the original mistborn trilogy set up an almost love triangle that was never actually a love triangle which Vin promptly solved with murder i’d have two nickels
The funniest love triangle in fiction happened in The Well of Ascension, the second Mistborn book, where Zane was like "[insert evil laugh here] I'm gonna torture my half-brother by making his girlfriend fall in love with me and force her to choose between us". Meanwhile Vin is just living her life and dealing with plot stuff and never gives any indication of harboring the barest romantic or even platonic feeling towards Zane, and when he finally makes his offer she's like "what the fuck dude of course I'm not picking you". The third point of the non-existent triangle, Elend, remains blissfully unaware of any all these events (including that he has a half-brother) because he's too busy dealing with other plot stuff. Anyway, kudos to Zane for inventing clowns in Scadrial
No pressure. Just seeking some validation of my sentiment. Due to some. people
