“I think you’re probably perfectly capable of finding your way around.” Foggy shrugged, slightly irritated at the general ignorance of people. “And if not, you're old enough to ask for help, right?” “Very right.” Matt smiled, steering them to the closest staircase and holding the door for Foggy. “After you.”

Context: A rewrite of the first meeting between Matt and Foggy as the beginning of a coming out fic I'm working on.

It's mostly the same, just slightly less focused on the whole maverick and goose thing...

Writing Reflection

After getting into writing last year I went mildly to totally insane this year. I wrote more than I even thought possible, already upped my writing goal in January after writing like 30k on WIPs alone in two weeks, only to then end up hitting my yearly writing goal in September anyway.

I got into Podfic this year and it has brought me a lot of joy to work on recording and editing, as well as to participate in even more challenges and exchanges than I did last year.

Once again, I met a lot of lovely people and had a great time writing and simply enjoying fandom with people I like to consider friends by now.

There were many ups and downs, but I'm glad to say that, over all, this year was a good one for me.

I hope you had a good year as well and wish everyone a good start into the New Year. 💜

Honestly as a blind person I’m so tired of seeing fictional blind characters who don’t use white canes or other guides. “They have special powers so they know what’s around them” or “they’re confident enough to not need a guide” are common tropes, and I’m tired.

Are people scared that using a white cane will make their blind character seem weak? They can’t use a cane because they’re so special that they already know what’s around them, and other blind people who use guides are inferior because they’re not special?

I’m tired. Give your blind characters white canes and other guides. Let them hold onto their friends, let them have guide dogs. Don’t make white cane users feel ostracized for not being “strong enough” to go without.

Another thing that pisses me off is when a sighted character comes up with the fantasy equivalent of braille and teaches it to the blind character. Braille was invented by Louis Braille, a blind man, in 1824. The blind character should be the one coming up with it.

HOLY COW I MEANT TO POST THIS MONTHS AGO This is art for @42donotpanic's fic Seeing the Darkness - Hearing the Silence! We were paired together for the Marvel Rare Pair Big Bang and I completely forgot to post the art after... so at this point it's just fan art for this incredible story!! It's not my proudest piece, this story deserves something a lot better, but I hope it still captures a bit of the concept! (please go read the fic, I love everything that 42 writes with these characters, they are utterly fantastic and know the characters so well!!)

Clint's chin is resting on his palm, which is proper on the counter, and he's watching the coffee percolate. He feels movement behind him--the shifting vibration of steps on old wooden floorboards, each step a little thump of soundless noise. He doesn't have his ears in, because he doesn't put his ears in before coffee, but he likes that he can still feel it when Bucky gets in from his morning run.

The kiss that presses to his cheek makes him squeak, shocked not by the action but the cold of Bucky's lips.

Autumn comes later ever year it seems, but the cold front sets in just as quick as always.

Bucky presses a second kiss to Clint's shoulder, still a little cold through the fabric of his shirt but not as much as skin on skin. A wordless apology.

"Love you," Clint mumbles, and feels the way the fabric of his shirt shifts when Becky's smile jostles it.

Bucky pours them both coffee, throws on an old purple hoodie of Clint's so his cold metal arm won't brush Clint and startle him all over again, and they settle in on the couch to drink their coffee together.

Clint never thought he could be this happy. Clint never thought he would feel this loved, especially in this way. But he is.

He presses a kiss to the corner of Bucky's jaw, coffee warm lips on warming skin and scruff, and says it one more time just because he likes to say it: "love you."

Bucky smiles like a sunrise and signs back, love you (too).

I would like it noted that I was indeed not wrong and that I exceeded my word count of 27500 that I ended up with for this round. /lh
