Just a brief check in here since I realize it's been almost a week since I posted any updates here; I took a couple of days off for some personal business but I am still working on the game. Unfortunately I don't have much to show for it at this time because it's story writing. I have written it into the game, arranged the chibi sprite movement routes and all that, but I haven't drawn any art for a while, so posting screenshots would be kind of boring, and I don't want to post a video sequence because I'm not trying to do too many spoilers here...
But please trust I'm still working! I've also added options for the player to do their own keybinds since RPG Maker defaults to arrow keys and z/x for select and cancel. I don't know if I mentioned that already on here, but I remember playing Omori and how awkward it felt to not be able to do the traditional WASD keyboard movement, so players can set things up that way if they want to from the options menu.
Also I got it set up so that you can type things into the game when prompted for things like naming your player or putting in a word or numbers rather than having to use arrow keys to scroll through an on-screen alphabet, because that's also annoying as hell imo. But mostly it's been writing I'm working on.
I hope to have something interesting to show you guys soon though, like actual screenshots or something, I just have to get back into drawing.
Donation option to help me recoup the Steam application fee for 2-Headed Boy. All donors will have the name they listed upon donation in the game credits of course 🤍
I LOVE THE GAME IDEA SO MUCH HOLY SHIIIIYTT
So anyways. Geeking out rn. So fucking COOLL
-🍏
Oh wow thank you! I'm so happy people like the idea. It really motivates me to consistently work on it!
Yesterday I added the actual mechanics into the game for leveling up the cats at the café, and added a feather toy. Each cat activity makes 1 hour of in-game time pass per round (but in reality takes less than a minute). No worries though, when you're not doing specific activities, time passes normally in the game (1 minute in game is 1 real life minute etc.). So no need to rush.
You may or may not be thinking, sheesh just move on from the cats already and get back to work on the main point of this game; dating and yandere harassment! To which I say:
I'm sorry
I will be working on more of the hand drawn sprites of the guys for White Day events next
Kage meltdown is coming soon
Please look forward to it
A walking tour of MC's grimy neighborhood in the fictional town of Midnight City, the main setting for my upcoming F2P yandere boyfriend game, "I Can Fix Him!"
As you can see, the game starts in autumn, and will include maps for all 4 seasons as well as time mechanics, day/night cycles, and time/season-dependent events (including your chosen birthday)! Also, random weather. In this map loaded, it decided to rain.
Using the redheaded female sprite for this footage. 4 hair colors available, male or female playable avatar, 4 planned skin tones for each. More customization options in the works! See my more recent post regarding the custom character generator!
Map design and layout by me as well as the sprites, character design and art. All other pixel assets on this map are by Kaue Luchetta and Grayfax software.
Small redraw of Kage sprite in sad mode
I’m so happy your adding actual skin tones to your game a lot of games I’ve played as a darker woman don’t often have the option for me to be a similar skin tone to what I actually am and it’s refreshing to see
Wow, I guess I haven't played a ton of modern games, I would think that would just be a given by now, but here we are. If we're putting skin tone options in a game it seems like one would just naturally put a wide spectrum in. That's not difficult to do at all.
This reminds me of something else with the character customization in my game though. I'm glaringly aware that I'm lacking a variety of hair textures in the hair options. I have some loose waves and some slightly tighter waves but no real curls or coils. That one can be more of a skill issue on an artist's part, being able to draw them and have them look good.
Unfortunately I've collected hair assets from various community sources as well as pulled some from the base engine default assets, and none of them have a lot of texture. I'm not sure how much that's going to matter or bother people, but right now if I can't find any pre-made I would have to draw them myself, and they wouldn't match the other hair options in style. I'm not even sure they would come out good looking in tiny pixel art form (again skill issue). So I'm feeling a little stuck there.
Sorry for the rant, you didn't even bring up hair but it was something I had been thinking about with the customization and I was reminded by the comment on skin tone variety. This is just me saying "out loud" I'm sorry about the lack of options in that regard.
What software you use for making the game?
It's RPG Maker MV :)
You guys I am actually tearing up rn, it feels like someone is giving my heart a tight hug ;_; thank you everyone for donating and believing in me, I'm gonna try my best to make this game awesome for everyone
And to the people who made especially chunky donations, you're definitely on my list for if I am able to do some kind of extra special reward in the future it will 100% apply retroactively
2-Headed Boy also has a Reddit page, if anyone is also on there and want to show it a little love with an occasional upvote or anything ^^;
